Slight performance doesn't really matter much to me but power consumption better hardware parts maybe? On the rx 580 are what I'm looking for. Read some where that it reduce consumption. Rx 480 about 225 and rx 580 about 150 ( same as gtx 1060)
*
Another thing that RX580 will improve is on some part that lacks on RX480 like inferior VRMs in Power Color RX480. They improved it in RX580 version and Gigabyte Aorus RX580 looks much better compare to their RX480 G1 Gaming and i think it will perform like other brand premium line.

AMD card power consumption varies depend on BIOS and chip binning while Nvidia cards depend on BIOS/board power limit and GPU Boost 3.0, usually power limit is similar on all card so these card will have similar power consumption while the final boost speed varies.

I can't comment on lower power consumption because i don't have any data on how much the chip will improve with process maturity on GloFo 14nm LPP.
It was insignificant on 390/390x refresh but that probably because TSMC 28nm already matured that time while GloFo/Samsung 14nm LPP is pretty new for GPU.

1st RX 580 benchmark leaked
https://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-rx-580-over...enchmarks-leak/

Seems performance not bad due to get maximum stable overclock was at 1480/8500 with +12mV.

Meh, Polaris doesn't need GPU clockspeed boost. It could use more memory bandwidth like using GDDR5X. RX 470 is close to RX 480 performance when the former using the same memory speed as the latter.

Yup, iirc gain from memory OC is higher than gain with core OC in games. Another reason to get 8GB version because it come with 2000mhz memory and can be overclock higher compare to 4GB model that have 1750mhz.

nitro+ limited edition specs leaked:

108mhz uplift over rx480 nitro+, not bad just for 14nm LPP refinement, maybe we could see vega clocked at at least 1500mhz on stock.

That TDP bump of RX580 from 150W to 185W, and a recommended power supply of 600W. ><

should be Polaris Refresh. R590 and above will be VEGA iinm.
and the spec sheet stated correctly as well.

RX580 just 5% performance incease than rx480... tdp higher and performance/watt increase, i thought can be better of tdp due to better vrm or power design? @@

Price is cheaper usd10 than previous lolz... Where's vega= =

in layman's term meaning higher performance by 5% with higher power consumption?

Newsflash - overclocked GPU consumes more power

In other news, water is wet - it's an overclocked RX 480 after all so it's kinda expected icon_idea.gif

Also the recommended PSU is overkill as most manufacturers tend to go overboard with their PSU requirements (presumably intended to avoid potential false advertising) icon_idea.gif

https://www.computerbase.de/2017-04/radeon-...e-battlefield-1

Interestingly the idle power consumption is pretty good, especially on multimonitor setups (which is a very well known problem among AMD cards) icon_idea.gif

If you think the 185W TDP is bad then imagine my HD7950 with a TDP of something closer to 200W sweat.gif

Also TDP is not an indication of power consumption - this has been debunked for many times icon_idea.gif

Better power design doesn't mean it will consume less power. tongue.gif

This is similar to 390/390x refresh. HardwareCanucks show the 580 perform kinda good though.

IMHO the winners here are the RX550/RX560 as it is one of the first mainstream AMD cards to be offered with low profile designs (which is fantastic for SFF or god forbids, prebuilt machines) brows.gif

Is it just me or does RX 580 specs look lower than R9 390X?
No, I'm not trolling. I'm trying to understand why

Or is there RX 590 coming soon?
Really need to RMA my 390X. Only 1 year warranty left. But looking at RX 580 specs, I'm not convinced I should send it for RMA now sweat.gif

It pretty much is.

My R9 390 performs greater than my RX 470, so an RX 480 is around R9 390 performance.

Since RX 580 is basically RX 480 with higher clocks, the performance should be around (I reckon lower) when compared to R9 390X.

So should I wait?
It's running fine when I downclock it to AMD official clockspeed for 390X. Only when on PowerColor factory overclocked speed the card starts to produce artifacts

I think wait to see how it turn out http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57196/amd-ra...-580/index.html

biggrin.gif With RX 580, you're better off wait for stock-clearance RX 480 it seems.

For me I only liked RX 480 when it was launched, it was then overtaken by the GTX 1060 in every way, then the RX 470 alone could come really close to it and costs far less.

I'm not gonna buy tongue.gif
Just hoping when I RMA my 390X, I'd get something worthy of the card. Possibly RX 590? Who knows

But as I mentioned earlier, RX 580 specs look lower than 390X, that's why I'm having doubts either I should RMA the card now or not
1 year warranty left.

Forgot to mention earlier
AMD official clockspeed for 390X is 1050 MHz
Whereas PowerColor overclocked speed is 1100 MHz
That 50 MHz bump really puts a damper in my gaming

But once I downlocked the card to 1050MHz, everything runs smoothly without any hickups
