Meh, Polaris doesn't need GPU clockspeed boost. It could use more memory bandwidth like using GDDR5X. RX 470 is close to RX 480 performance when the former using the same memory speed as the latter.

It's just Fiji 2.0. When I read it have 4 ACE, 4 Shader engine, I lost hope with this card performance and sadly I'm right. AMD needs to move away from GCN to stay competitive, GCN only good for one thing; compute and that's where miners would benefit not gaming

PowerColor offered me to swap my faulty R9 390X with the 2 options below
Which one should I get?

1. Another PowerColor R9 390X Devil
2. PowerColor RX 580 Red Devil

RX 580 feels like a downgrade because of the lower Memory Bus, lower Memory Bandwidth, lower Shader Processing Units, lower Texture Mapping Units, lower Render Output Units, lower Texture Rate & lower Pixel Rate
*
Both are two different architecture, one is newer than the others so you cant directly compare like that. Its a sidegrade not a downgrade. You gain a little bit of performance, in turn better power consumption and lower heat output. You can watch on youtube on how 290x (similar to 390x but with 4GB RAM) performs on par or slightly worse than RX 470. I think hardware unboxed done that comparison.

Just a little rant of mine. Prices of AMD card in Malaysia is just ridiculous. Just look in Garage Sales, RX 4xx and RX 5xx cards prices above RM1.1k all the way up to RM1.9k, which for the price you can fetch 980 Ti and GTX 1070. Older 390 also hovers around RM1k. Its very hard to recommend any AMD cards, no wonder this thread is basically dead. Mining craze is died down but not the price, used mining cards also fetch high price.

AMD selling RX 560 with 896sp. I bought Powercolor RX 560 few days ago to test out Freesync and it comes with 896sp, but I did found 1034sp vBIOS variant of the same card and lucky me it worked. AMD shooting themself in the foot with this, you need to look in their SKU to know which variant you got.

I guess they're shooting another foot this time because last year they make a r9-270 with 1024sp.
*
Isnt that only Powercolor that made it?

I wonder why they make this decision. Probably yield for the RX560 is just bad.
*
It should be better yield as the time goes. Maybe they wanted to sell off old inventory

Which monitor? 980 Ti performance is much higher compare to 580. I don't know if Freesync works out of the box for all games or still need some software support for each games.
*

Freesync is not dependant on games, as long as you enable it in control panel it should work, enhanced sync work too if you want the framerate to be uncapped. I have 980Ti but since Freesync work so well Im using my RX 560 all the time now.

I guess it's enabled by default and AMD only disable it per game profile when there is an issue for that particular game.
Freesync monitor is pretty cheap, really make me wonder why some even buy slightly cheaper non-Freesync with TN panel.

What happened to your 1080 Ti?  hmm.gif
*
Sold it off for some money and bought 980Ti instead. I dont need it for 1080p tongue.gif

Overlay works well, I really digging it. It displays what I wanted to see without any additional software.

i sold my rx580 and now im on 1050ti works so well on 1080p.
*
Midrange cards like RX560 and 1050Ti works very well in 1080p, if you have Gsync/Freesync monitor to complement it it works even better. I also tried 1050Ti, very fast little card.

Tried legacy driver 13.1, legacy driver 13.4 beta and driver from windows update, still the same can’t see 1920x1080. hmm.gif
*
You can try FLEM catalyst/crimson modder and mod newer driver to support your card. In the meantime try to use 16:9 resolution like 1600x900 or 1280x720.

Anyone using fury x? How does it fare in 2018? Trying to find in garage sale to know about its 2nd hand price but it's very rare here.
*
Dont. It only have 4GB VRAM and will choke on newer games at higher setting, plus with crazy miner scalping you better off buying other cards. Even the pesky 290/X are over RM1000+ nowadays

That's sad. Im an AMD fan but every other AMD card are damn expensive now.
*
It's the sad truth. Can't even upgrade from my 980Ti to anything newer. Things too expensive not only on AMD camp but also nvidia's. Miners even take lower end RX460/560 and GTX1050Ti cards now.

I am looking for GPU upgrade in the coming months, I checked the passmark benchmark list and notived Vega56 sit side by side iwth GTX1070.
But when I look at the prices...  shakehead.gif  GTX1070 starts to have offer around RM1700 while Vega56 still stucks at least RM2500++ or even 3K+
I really wish to stay with AMD since I'm familiar with the driver and stuff, but the price point is one big headache.
*
It's only in Bolehland where the price is still damn high. Heck, even some RX580 prices are north RM1.6k at the shops bangwall.gif If you look at amazon for example Vega56 can be bought for around RM2k, still high but nowhere near RM2.85k+ on local shops.

Meanwhile, there is rumor regarding Polaris 30 coming at the end of 2018. My guess is it's just die shrink of current Polaris but I hope it at least have more CU and/or faster GDDR5X/6 RAM at least.

Anyone knows why my fan speed is stuck at 36%?
I tried increasing it in Wattman but nothing seems to change.
The fan speed is still at 36% even when temperature reach 90 degree sweat.gif
Using Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x

I tried changing the fan speed percentage at msi afterburner but the rpm still the same

[attachmentid=10007631]
*
Reset everything first, uninstall afterburner. Then try to install Sapphire own Trixx software and try to adjust fan speed from there.

Wanna know something depressing? Powercolor RX 470 4GB Red Dragon was sold for RM899 before mining craze near the end of 2016 doh.gif

Vega is a hot card, a blower cooler is better to keep your case temps down.

I have Vega 64, yeah that thing could boil a kettle or egg when stressing, the gpu shroud is really hot to touch.
Gonna mod an Aio cooler for it.
*
I force the fan to run at 2800rpm when gaming. Temps usually never exceed 72C. My 56 is flashed with 64 VBIOS with HBM clocked at 1GHz with 56 powerplay table. Voltage locked at 950mV or 1V. Core clock averaging around 1500-1550MHz.

If you want to run AIO make sure the VRM is cooled too.

I rather have better custom cooler, the stock heatsink really sucks, AMD need to improve their stock cooler.
For custom heatsink that dumps hot air inside case, a side panel exhaust will slove the problen.
2x 120mm fan would suffice.
*
Stock cooler is fine, the only thing that sucks is how AMD binned their GPU. It used way too much voltage, a simple undervolting to make the cooler cope with the heat produced. Another problem is AMD set the blower fan too low; idle 400RPM (barely any airflow) and at load only 2400RPM (but it rarely reach this). It needs around 2500RPM to expel heat efficiently under load

Problem with modern case it full of tempered glass side panel, no place for side panel fan. Its all about the bling and not cooling puke.gif

almost end of 2018...question...is it a good time to buy RX580 or RX570? since the price now around rm1k-1.3k...for now i'm using vega 11...
*

Unless you need urgently you better wait a bit. There is a rumor of Polaris 30 with 15% better performance than current Polaris. RM1k-1.3k is not good value for money as you can get 2nd hand GTX 1070 with that price.
