Can't post full link given my Probation Mode. But just delete the "[" and "]" from the link above and you should be able to view the video at the section discussing Open-Loop Payments.

Once they start to accept Debit/Credit Cards as part of the Open-Loop Payments (OLP), I don't see a reason we can't use Apple Pay at the gates. This depends on the payment networks they support as well, SG accepts Visa & Mastercard (V/MC), London & Sydney accepts AMEX in addition to V/MC.

With that said, would be great if RapidKL could implement the "Express Travel" feature as well when they launch OLP. Express Travel allows users to tap at gates without having to authenticate with Face ID / Touch ID similar to how we use TNG cards now at the gates.

Trust me, it is quite an annoyance after a while to have to authenticate before tapping at gates especially when you are taking multiple modes of transportation as part of your journey (e.g. LRT transit to Bus may require 4 taps in total). Worse still, imagine having to do a Face ID authentication during boarding/edit while carrying things on both hands.

For those who are concerned of risks brought by Express Travel: This is an opt-in feature on the users' end and this feature is designed to only work at public transport terminals (e.g. at gates / on buses). You still have to authenticate before paying for other purchases.

Anthony Loke said they’re aiming the implementation by 2H23.

There are quite some Chinese media reported that news last week, and if someone can find back the video of interviewing Loke, you can listen that he said that they’re aiming to achieve it by 2H23. Sadly though, I see no non-Chinese media reported this news in the past few days.

Came across the following news relating to Open-Loop Payments (Credit & Debit Cards) for public transport. Apparently the Prime Minister has made some comments concerning TNG Cards this afternoon.

Apple Pay has launched in South Korea today with 1 financial institutions.

Unfortunately users could only use AP at a limited number of merchants as most merchants’ terminals supports only Magnetic Stripe & Chip only.

Hopefully more FIs in Korea would offer AP which creates more users. When the number of AP users increases, I reckon merchants would gain some confidence in investing in a NFC-Capable Terminal!

IIRC CIMB is the only institution which has came out publicly on its plans to launch Apple Pay support for their cardholders. It was reported last year that the bank plans to launch support for AP in the 2H of 2023 (so, Jul-Dec 23 period?).

As for the other banks, they may just launch AP out of the blue without sharing their AP plans (e.g. HSBC Malaysia), probably to have a "wow-factor".

Considering how advanced Korea is technology wise, I'm kinda surprised and not I guess. Considering LG Pay and Samsung Pay has been holding onto the Contactless Payment market in Korea as the only sole competitor in Korea. Wondering how much Apple and 현대카드 is taking in terms of fee for them to finally start rolling out AP there.

I look forward to see how Credit/Debit Cards (Open-Loop Payments in general) would fit into the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) Toll System that will be introduced in the future.

Out of curiosity, I got a new HSBC credit card and I tried adding it into Apple Pay. Interesting to note that the only way to authorize it was that I needed to contact the HSBC Contact Center. Did you all face the same thing as well for those who use HSBC credit card?

Not with HSBC Malaysia. But I was told that sometimes the attempt to enrol a new card into Apple Pay may be flagged by fraud protection system and therefore you have to call in to verify. Otherwise it could be because some of the info provided during set-up is incorrect (Expiry Month/Year or the CVV).

Thanks, ended up calling the HSBC CS and they explained they need to key into a global system which would take a couple of hours to get it validated. Whilst having lunch earlier the validation got through and managed to pay using Apple Pay for the HSBC card.

And the device shown there doesn’t look like an iPhone either. Perhaps just coming to Google Pay, but I do feel that the device resembles Samsung much more. In that case it’d mean Alliance coming to Samsung Pay.
