Actually no idea when or how it will end. Now at least you see less tourist around the street dragging their suitcase. TST is really very quiet. I am actually not really impacted. As long you stay away form the protest then you should be fine. Not only hotel, even apartments now are much cheaper. BUt then not sure I will invest in one now.
LKF is something like our bukit bintang at night. Financial center... well maybe there are some exchange of cash, but I wont call it a financial center. smile.gif

SSP and Mongkok is normally where the protest is at night and it will start randomly. In fact mongkok station is still close until now. Generally it is still safe and when you see some protest starting just move away. Unless you want to have a taste of tear gas. smile.gif Please dont wear any black clothes as well since this are what the protestors are wearing. Hope to hear some exciting stories from you when you are back!

SSP also?? Sh*t!! cry.gif

are things cheaper now, for example, wantan mee is cheaper already?

SSP has been a hotspot, but then you should just go and feel the atmosphere. Even there is protest, you can see people doing their own things, like nothing is happening. Its a norm now. No idea if things/food are cheaper. Dont really feel it as I seldom eat at tai pai tong. Normally I eat home cook food and if I do eat out will be restaurant as where I stay tai pai tong are damn expensive.

Mohon sacwoc share some update on HK's situation. From news/articles it seemed like vandalism is getting worse. I'll presume its not really safe for tourists to visit in this uncertainty.

been following a few HK travel forums

here's some details I have gathered

most of it if not all doesn't recommend tourist to come over during these period, especially those travelling with elderly or children, solo or smaller group travel at your own risk

public transport like mrt & tram is operating at limited capacity and at reduced hours, some trams on the island is not operating due to protester pour concretes on the tram track doh.gif
certain mrt stations are closed due to vandalism.

if can cancel flight & hotel bookings, please do so, if can't, either burn or alter you itinerary.

Safest place so far is the airport, from there you can either change your itinerary to disneyland only, or to macau, or to Zhuhai, or Shenzhen.

for those still going, avoid going out at night, and avoid protest hotspots, and avoid wearing all black/white, and most of all, don't wear face mask, and do not simply take photos of anyone

travel insurance WILL NOT cover or compensate you any losses resulting from the riots

Back from a long business trip. Violence was bad last week but it cool down but no idea when it will flare up again. As someone mention, transport can be a pain in the ass. Even if you are willing to pay for taxi, you might get into a jam. If you can avoid the hotspot, its generally safe. But then its basically those places like SaiKung which is secluded with nice beaches or the peak where rich people stay. Heard that there is less queue in Disneyland as well. Tung Chung is nearby but it's one of the MTR that is being vandalised. Also now you see less tourist with suitcases walking around.

Had a discussion with some friends and they say which country that face such vandalism and no impact to the market! In fact Han Seng has been performing very well!

May I know for the retail shops and restaurants along the street, how much are they affected? Hong Kong people mostly eat out.. I guess business is still ok? What about the office workers there? Any layoffs ? Generally, are the streets of HK much lesser human traffic now or what? Ya.. it is quite perplexing how come the Hang Seng is not affected at all ?

ITs still open though some are going out of business. Not many people are going out especially at the protest hotspot. At least you dont need to queue for a long time if you want to eat. Heard from news there are layoff especially for small businesses. Office workers are generally not impacted as HK is a financial center and basically they work for MNCs. Office/shop rents now are going down which I think is a good thing. Prada is not going to renew their lease for their biggest store in Causeway Bay. Why HS is not impacted? Well this means that the finance structure here is still strong and company listed here are basically MNC or Chinese company. Even Ali Baba is doing their secondary listing here in HK. Its impacted more by the trade war between US and China.
