QUOTE(GI Jie @ Mar 19 2017, 04:06 PM) Of course. I experienced it in 2014. Actually it is not that bad. Strong winds and rain. Most dangerous is the falling branches. Me and the missus purposely walked out onto TST at midnight to see how it was but since we were smack inside HK city, the winds were somewhat blocked off from the many tall buildings. In fact a lot of HK people were out then and there should be tons of photos and news of it in the papers. I travel to HK at least 3X a year. First time experiencing a typhoon though. And that's why I don't go to HK in December. Some travel sites say peak typhoon probability is in July, August and September. Maybe you got lucky, or unlucky, to experience typhoon in December. BTW, why you go Hong Kong so many times a year? Include Macau? I also like HK a lot.

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Feb 19 2018, 02:13 PM) Hahahahaha you seemed to have picked the wrong timing for a foodie tour in HK. And if you have time to spare, I suggest visiting the Horse Racing - night in Happy Valley or morning/ afternoon in Sha Tin. It was one of the best memories I made in HK, probably because it's a first time. The atmosphere was exciting and you get to see the horse parade at the Horse Parade Ring. Yup. Suggest go to Times Square and take the tram to Happy Valley on Wednesday night race.... Hong Kong style.....swipe Octopus card for entry

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Oct 3 2018, 08:48 AM) HK people dont like to waste time. Time is money. Australia Dairy is famous for that. Limited space and customer turnover have to be fast. They are straight to the point and can be loud. I guess thats why we Msian cant get use to it. But actually alot of them have a good heart. You might see them speaking loudly, but they will really help people if needed. Been here long enough to know about it. Maybe because I seldom go to HK island or tourist place! If you have been to Tokyo Disneyland, forget about HK. I think they are still renovating and no fireworks. Atmosphere dont really feel like disneyand. HK disneyland cater for local and Chinese market, hence normally it wont be repeating visitors. Unlike Tokyo where about 90% are repeating visitors and are local. Hence Tokyo need to "refresh" it more often. Been to ocean park and my daughter do love it, especially the shows. Ya, they talk loud only, doesn't mean they r angry. When I order I raised my voice to order, like shouting at them and they r like no fxxcks given.. ha ha

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Nov 21 2019, 10:44 AM) Back from a long business trip. Violence was bad last week but it cool down but no idea when it will flare up again. As someone mention, transport can be a pain in the ass. Even if you are willing to pay for taxi, you might get into a jam. If you can avoid the hotspot, its generally safe. But then its basically those places like SaiKung which is secluded with nice beaches or the peak where rich people stay. Heard that there is less queue in Disneyland as well. Tung Chung is nearby but it's one of the MTR that is being vandalised. Also now you see less tourist with suitcases walking around. Had a discussion with some friends and they say which country that face such vandalism and no impact to the market! In fact Han Seng has been performing very well! May I know for the retail shops and restaurants along the street, how much are they affected? Hong Kong people mostly eat out.. I guess business is still ok? What about the office workers there? Any layoffs ? Generally, are the streets of HK much lesser human traffic now or what? Ya.. it is quite perplexing how come the Hang Seng is not affected at all ?

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Nov 22 2019, 10:18 AM) ITs still open though some are going out of business. Not many people are going out especially at the protest hotspot. At least you dont need to queue for a long time if you want to eat. Heard from news there are layoff especially for small businesses. Office workers are generally not impacted as HK is a financial center and basically they work for MNCs. Office/shop rents now are going down which I think is a good thing. Prada is not going to renew their lease for their biggest store in Causeway Bay. Why HS is not impacted? Well this means that the finance structure here is still strong and company listed here are basically MNC or Chinese company. Even Ali Baba is doing their secondary listing here in HK. Its impacted more by the trade war between US and China. Ok thx. Just curious... do people talk about it in office or when they bump into each other? I see people do not dare to criticise the protesters for the wilful damage of properties for fear for revenge ...are people torn in the opinions/ support for the protest? Are the silent majority supporting this protest(riot)? Are there any prominent figures come out in the news to ask them to stop or everyone is in support or what?
