We have gathered most of the feedback and sent them to FAE so we shall expect new EC and BIOS updates very soon.

Meanwhile, there will be a new ONYX/RAVEN Command Center released next 2 weeks as well.

Yeah I wondered too. Maybe not from XMG though because they only have the German layout (with the reverse L shaped Enter key).

Not sure if they have their keys in the US International layout that we have.

But as for the fit, it should be a quick replacement methinks.

Oh, just noticed that our Great Red Cousin the Z2 has similar keys as the XMG, and in the US layout as well. Maybe you can try to find those?

Maybe, if nobody else volunteers for it... hmm.gif

Anyway, I'm do wish too that the new EC/BIOS would help tame the erratic fan curves, but it seems that TongFang is rather on point at churning out updates (they have pushed out a couple already for our Chinese cousin the Z2) so I'm not entirely worried.

At the rate they're going (right now they seem even more active at releasing FW/BIOS then even Clevo lol), they should get a lot of those little niggles fixed pretty soon. Well, hopefully anyway.

And I know for a fact that our boys (and girls) at Illegear are very quick, hard workers as well (even if they're actually just a small team relatively TBH, which people tend to forget sometimes) so that's that.

fuh. im about to pull the trigger on the onyx as well. tested it yesterday at their store. abit of a shame with the battery though.

not a fan of the keycaps. custom ones sound really good.

whats your specs?

8750H,1060, 2x8GB RAM, 512GB SSD + 2TB SSHD. Planning to install another 512GB SSD maybe today (when I salvage it off my other laptop).

But hey, at least it runs longer then the Zephyrus lol.

is there any updates on spectre patches for raven?

seems like there are new spectre-related flaws discovered : https://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Exclusive-Spectre-NG-Multiple-new-Intel-CPU-flaws-revealed-several-serious-4040648.html

Well, problem is at this point most INITIAL Spectre and Meltdown patches seem to adversely effect performance to a surprising degree (mostly due to having to mess with Speculative Execution)... only now has patches with less severe effects been developed, and even then the application of the said patches often come with disclaimers regarding the performance impact.

And with those new vulnerabilities being only recently discovered, expect the same in regards to the patches. The first versions of patches addressing these new flaws MIGHT just be so performance heavy that you're not gonna want it yet.

Despite Intel's rather optimistic (IMHO) May, August timeline.

Plus its gonna take a bit of time for the ODMs to process the patches anyway - hence probably why those "improved" patches for the "original" S/M are not even out yet for everyone.

But for details I'll leave it to the Illegear folks to answer.

Is it possible to have a less 'clicky', quieter switch?

Very interesting question! I'm curious too, and any way to reduce the "click" even slight would be a welcome change to those who plan to use the Onyx in a quieter, more professional environment... like doing research in Libraries.

Hi kyLL

We will have a bigger battery for existing / new user to upgrade in June/July 18 but have to sacrifice the 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD space.

ONYX's 144Hz IPS upgrade option will be available in June 18.

If i get i5 and 1050ti, will I get better battery life? Cuz plan to get this..

Also low power ddr4 ram

Maybe future no use hdd liao, save weight biggrin.gif , or get extra battery for battery life

Ditch the HDD for the extended battery then the 1060 version also would have a somewhat decent 5++ hour battery life (at the very least).

And no, the 1050ti will not factor into battery life as you're probably on Optimus when you're on battery anyway... However the processor might.

Upcoming owner of the onyx, but for the i7 + 1050TI version instead, waiting for my unit to be ready for collection biggrin.gif

Didn't spring for the 1060 because the laptop is more for photo/video editing rather than gaming, so battery life can be kept in check during editing (as applications like premiere and lightroom uses the GPU).

Can't wait for the extended battery to prolong my on-the-go editing sessions, and I'm also planning to shoot a video review of the laptop too.

Eiraku How's the battery life currently? Especially after undervolting, quite interested to know. sweat.gif

We will also have membrane RGB keyboard downgrade options for existing / new RAVEN users, ETA June / July 2018.

Membrane RGB keyboard downgrade option for RAVEN: ETA June / July 2018
144Hz IPS sRGB 100% Display for ONYX: ETA June 2018
Bigger size battery for ONYX: ETA June/July 2018

We are working hard to make these options available for existing users.

About 4 hours max, with stuff tuned to minimum (powersaver plan, display at 25% and RGB keyboard turned off). UV is really more to keep temps in check and increase turbo utilisation, so don't expect it to help much.

Also, this is running on IGPU. Expect more like 1h30m-2h with the DGPU active all the time (and something like 2h++ for a mix of IGPU and DGPU use),1050 or otherwise.

That said, I do have a heavily tuned down Energy Saver profile set in ThrottleStop, but I haven't tested and tuned it thoroughly yet so I can't say if it helps prolong battery life, at least for surfing and light work.

I'm curious, when you're on battery why not just accelerate Premier/LR with the iGPU? Sure, its an Intel but the UHD 630 is actually not entirely crap for those kinds of stuff - at least for "mobile" use (and keep the DGPU for when you have access to a power point).

Sure, I know Premier at least renders a lot faster with a "proper" GPU but heck doing that with the Aero 15 even will bring the battery to its knees (it goes to about what, 3-4h with that kind of use?).

Myself I'm more a Vegas / Luminar user so the iGPU accelerates plenty for my needs.

I see, so it's still relatively the same, but is 25% brightness usable in most well-lit indoor situations? (As in the screen at 25% is close to ambient or dramatically darker?)

On the subject of editing, while I've never configured any of my systems to run on IGPU, but for speed editing (think wedding same-day-edit videos) where there is background rendering of transitions/effects etc. the GPU speed helps a lot in making sure we can deliver the video on time. Also I notice that timeline scrubbing (scrolling across clips) is smoother with GPU acceleration turned on.

That being said tho, I should probably experiment with the IGPU also to see if there is a better performance vs battery consumption balance to be had. hmm.gif

Yay! Is looking forward for the 'quiet' keyboard option and 144Hz IPS display.

Guys, how loud exactly is the mechanical keyboard? I like mechanical keyboards - but my family hates noise. Means I cannot bring the laptop out of the work/study room.
