QUOTE(nyunyu @ Apr 27 2018, 06:35 PM)
I received confirmation that my order has been setup and ready for shipping. It turns out that 1)there was miscommunication regarding the status of my ram. It has been indeed delivered last Tuesday. 2)I overpaid. Seems my doubts was indeed right whereas I should be charged cash price and not normal price as I paid cash. So now I have RM291 in store credit. Anyone interested?
Yes, I fully agree.

Hi nyunyu I believe that the miscommunication was caused since there was multiple amendments (for example: HDD change request from 1TB 7200rpm to Seagate SSHD, stock RAM -> G.SKILL -> no RAM -> custom RAM) that were requested & have been performed on your order in regards to the components. There was also quite a lot of back and forth going on between the assembly line and the order processing team (multiple work orders have been generated too) in completing the order and since there were multiple people that handled your order, some miscommunications have occurred but I believe we have resolved the issue. Will follow-up with you regarding the store credit via WhatsApp.

As for the drivers, we are indeed in the process of revamping the official website and the download links will be featured on Support tab soon smile.gif

Hi Azim, glad to see you're back. Yep, a lot of requests was made during the preorder before the retail units arrived and also due to ram availability at the time. Anyhow, glad to have this matter sorted out now. Looking forward to get my hand on the laptop once I'm home later.

Primarily BattleTech, which doesn't really need high specs at all lol, but I'm sooooo addicted to it right now.

Also FC5, Wildlands and I probably gotta get around to finishing Wolf 2. And of course, Fallout 4... once I find time to reinstalling ALL the mods I want for it (too many lol).

In the future? Ace Combat 7, Mechwarrior 5, Metro Exodus woooo. Also Cyberpunk 2077 whenever if gets released, hopefully I can at least get it to run decently at "High-ish" with the 1060.

Is the Onyx built from the Clevo 'frame' (for lack of a better term)? Want to look for reviews for similar builds. Do post your ambient temp please if you decide to share the benchmark results

Nope, TongFang "barebones", and a review of a similar device (the XMG Neo 15) should be up on Notebookcheck as soon as XMG finishes tweaking their unit, which is pretty much just an Onyx with slightly different keyboard caps and a sandblasted metal outer finish (we've got a brushed metal finish).

Also, in China there's the Mechrevo (which is simply TongFang's retail division) Z2, and the MechNike F117 Break: both silver-coloured versions of the Onyx (and both not available outside of China, hence expect Chinese-language reviews only).

Plus, my own full review is OTW.

As for ambient temps I believe I measured the external temps of the Illegear display unit running Furmark with a IR Thermometer already a few pages back. Short version, nothing beyond 50c back OR front. Will do it again for my unit but I don't think there's gonna be much deviation.

As for proc CPU/GPU internal temps, I'll get back to you later once I'm finished with my review.

Thanks for pointing me in those directions! Clevo seems to be well-loved in Notebookcheck. Let's see what comes out of the XMG Neo 15 review.

Considering that the Onyx/Z2/Neo 15 is probably TongFang's most high profile unit yet, I really do hope that NBC likes it.

sorry to disappoint u but prema mod site is now down, the new one doesnt have modded bios. I am also looking for my S5 one to unlock overclock settings. From my research it seems like someone taking his stuff for granted, he got fed up and took down everything

btw PrinceJ is there any bios update for illegear S5? bought right before GST happens. I recall a friend of mine has a 17" illegear, same batch as mine, and his bios cannot recognize Samsung 960Evo. Do PM me if there is a new Bios that I can update for better SSD support.

Well, we never know *wink wink*

That said, it's a shame that we lost him in the first place though, he was such a talented modder TBH. But working so hard for nothing is sure going to test anyone (hence why even Android modders don't hang around long nowadays).

Well, the things in the spoiler are just rumors I heard floating around anyway... so yeah, pinches of salt for everyone.

Just for anyone still wondering about internal temps for the Onyx, just finished a few rounds of NBC-style Furmark + Prime 95 combo torture test.

A continuous 45-min run yielded CPU temps of 80c max and GPU 82c max. No sudden CPU or GPU throttling either, but of course there's room for UV improvement.

And yeah, my initial input regarding temps stand for the most part. Re-measuring the torture tested Onyx yielded a max temp of 50c at the bottom and 45c on top, with an average surface temp of 38c on top and 40c at the bottom - which is honestly not that much different from my previous findings pun.

And all of this is with an ambient temp of 28c.

So yeah, not bad Onyx.

Undervolt both CPU and GPU and show us the results? Also, is the fan noise bearable?

Will try with the UV soon, once I finish stock measurements for my review.

As for fan noise, at full (albeit synthetic) loads like this, it understandably got LOUD. Like 50-60dba AT LEAST, maybe more.

One thing to be clear about though, while the I didn't see any sudden or heavy throttling during the "Torture Test", I never saw the proc go Turbo either lol.

Looking at NEO 15, WOW, wonder when we would expect a 144Hz screen for Onyx. That matte black..is just gorgeous.
Eiraku, mind to share what is the thickness at the front and the back of this laptop? Just want to judge how thin it is compared to other thin laptop.

Eyeballing it I'd say 20+cm (including the rubber feet) at the thickest point seems about right, but I haven't had time to measure and confirm yet. I know it's thicker then the S5X/P950HR, at least (and to that end, thicker then the GS63 series), but not by too much.

This is normal for 8750H. 45W can't have max all core turbo unless undervolting and PL1 limit increase are applied. Also can be EC firmware

Cheers. 20mm at the thickest part seem reasonable. Just that the picture doesn't do justice.
Looking forward for your review, interested to know how long does it lasts on battery power.
