so is the edge router x + ap ac pro, a good combination?
how about comparing unifi nano hd & ap ac pro, which is better?
can i put the ap on the shelf? i cant mount it on the ceiling as I'm renting this place.

my home is 1400sqf condo, the green color area is the current location that i put my router, if i put the ap at this same area. can the 5g cover the whole house?

You would want to consider mesh wifi, if you can't utilize any Ethernet backhaul for your place.

Edgerouter x and uap ac pro will be just good enough. Hard to say for 5g coverage. It definitely need to be mounted high up and upside down. A lil bit hard to recommend a ceiling mounted ap in this case, maybe someone here can recommend a desktop ap. I did use an ap on a shelf before, not so good in my opinion. Maybe try a high than normal shelf?

Now in comparison for nanohd vs pro, a big advantage for nanohd is its a wave 2 802.11ac, so its designed for mu-mimo which will result better speed for high user count. In reality that means it might only make a difference if there are at least 30-60 "active" users. In home environment which only takes 4-8 "active" users, uap ac pro is still slightly overkill for internet under 100mbps. Even my uap ac lite can handle over 500mbps just fyi.

Edge router configuration is different to Unifi series so you may need some experience in that.

You can put it on the shelf but ceiling will give you the best performance.

I prefer the nanoHD as it is a newer radio. You should consider the Amplifi lineup if you are into UBNT, it is more suitable for your case.

Correct me if I am wrong Ubiquiti is a enterprise grade hardware/software but selling at cheaper price?

It's kinda hard to justify the price difference between these hardware and those cheaper Chinese brand.

I would just call it SME grade. For enterprise level, you will be looking at Ruckus, Aruba or Cisco. It depends what you want, if you just want some simple WLAN network, cheap China generics will do.

Many advanced features like central monitoring, VLAN multi AP, seamless roaming and AP steering are not available on cheaper brands.

Not to mention that UBNT radios are actually pretty decent in terms of interference mitigation which is crucial in an office with 50 devices next to each other.

True, but Unifi APs provide plenty of enterprise-level features at fraction of enterprise price. My office uses 80 UAP-AC-Pros for a 31-storey building, serving 2000 users, and they work great.

Hi Sifus,

I'm looking to get a NanoHD fixed in my house's living room downstairs as a lot of devices used at common area and also home office.

I'm first-timer with fixing an AP and just want to find out from your experience how much is the installation cost roughly for me to get someone lay cable from 2nd floor room at the end corner of the house. Modem/router is fixed there.

A rough estimation will help.

House size is around 1500 sqft. Thanks.

Are you from JB? I don't mind. can PM if interested. biggrin.gif

Was trying to come out with an estimated cost before ordering the NanoHD in case installation cost too much then I have to opt for other options.

Finally I got the erx and uap ac pro. smile.gif
The outcome is quite satisfied, although the furthest bedroom is still unable to get the 5g connection, but the stability and ping of my game really made me think that this is a good spent.

Hello ,

bryanyz..

putting 3 cameras on this system .. is only very minimum... what i like about this ubiquiti system setup is that , the "Cloudkey" Gen 2 plus ..can hold up all my recording in the storage of 1 TB .. and i can always set the software to records .. only on motion detect ...

Currently .. I am also having also 3 cameras setup for my house CCTV system with Zmodo .... which is going for more then 4 years .. So .. this is going to make way for the incoming ubiquiti network connection and also the CCTV cameras . which is all control by the Ubiquiti controller software .

5G is not for distance

2G can travel far away and penentrate walls

That's normal

You can set the radio powered to high and see either it improve your 5G signal
