Edge Switch orUBNT Switch EdgeSwitch targets the Broadband / ISP / Carrier market while UBNT Switch targets the Enterprise / SMB market. The UBNT switch products are designed for a wider IT audience, and therefore, tend to be simpler, and easier to use. Unlike the EdgeSwitch, there is no built-in software user interface on the UBNT Switch.
Am keen to start using an edge router but am not too sure how to configure it for unifi
i have 1 friend using it for unifi.. modem - edge router lite (setting as 1wan+2lan) the configuration is kinda user friendly.. have wizard setting to do it for you. then, just a little configuration, then you are done.
Can you propose a complete system for 3 storey semi-d, if I want to maximize speed with cat 5e cables, swicthes and wifi on all three floor with some coverage to the outside garden as well?

the detail of your requirement? we will give proposal for you.
currently ppoe+happytv is using which device? tm device?
last time I configure for a friend once (luckily he don't bother about hypptv). the way I configure that time (about 2 years ago) using CLI

Now I try to figure it out if I wanna both (vlan pppoe+hypptv). i have a basic knowledge to configure few brands like dlink, asus, tplink and mikrotik.

currently how do u think they configure for happytv+ppoe? 2 WAN or 2 LAN? edge OS CLI?

thanks.
knowing that the OS controller isnt built into the AP, but a software in PC/MAC/Mobile. Does the controller need to run keep open?
its ok to close. controller just for configuration and do some changes+monitoring.

most probably 1wan+2lan (in wizard), after that need to add vlan for PPPoE and hypptv. Yup edge OS do have CLI, which most ubnt user used for advance config (there are a lot of video Edge OS CLI). The only way that I can figure it out (let say eth1 from unifi modem and eth2 for hypptv)

Bridge may cause performance drop because is using some cpu power. im not sure if bridge will disable pppoe offload

i might want try to experimenting it. will share once done experimenting have happytv too... but we dont have the tv but we paid expensive. TM cheating us.
For home user that thinking of getting ER-L, I suggest get ER-X instead. ER-L ideally paired with switches & ER-L only will be fast if you use the hardware offloading feature. You can get ER-X for half the price of ER-L. Anything that require CPU such as QoS or VPN, ER-X will be fine (2x880MHz MIPS32 vs 2x500MHz MIPS64 of ER-L). ER-X does have per port VLAN tagging & some basic HW offloading features added in latest firmware.

true. ER-L very limited port. for personal user, ER-X is much better
