I finally managed to test it yesterday. Just a cheap rm 80 tp link 8 port switch connected to port 2 of btu then one to USG and another to Maxis Armenia 131 router. Disabled Ethernet wan in the Armenia router.

Works like a charm.

I also connected to Armenia router Lan to Wan 2 of the USG to do failover as the Armenia has a 4g SIM card.

@gaara92  @quasi @wanttotree

I have read that there are no formal specifications for the behaviour of "unmanaged L2 switches that are VLAN un-aware" when they encounter tagged VLAN frames.  Apparently some switches will just drop them whilst others will faithfully pass them along. (I guess others could just collide and keep trying ?)

OK ...curiousity got the better of me and I just tried the following setup to see if this particular L2 switch I happen to have (D-LINK DGS-1008MP) will just "pass thru'" the tagged frames or drop them.

As per diagram (sorry... rough quick draw) , I connected my wired PC to the ER-X and my iPhone to the WIFI on the TP-Link AC1200.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test 1:  with both the USG and the TP-Link AC1200 Routers ON

Ran Maxis Speed test on my wired PC (5 times) ....averaged about 91Mbps Download Speed
I have tried ringing the analog phone whilst the test I running too. Phone seem to work ok.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Test 2:  with the USG powered ON and the TP-Link AC1200 OFF

Ran Maxis Speed test on my wired PC (5 times) ....averaged about 94Mbps Download Speed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Test 3: with both the USG and the TP-Link AC1200 Routers ON

Ran 2 you-tube videos on my PC and 1 you-tube video on my iPhone 6.
Ran all 3 videos streaming for about 30 minutes, no gliches.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not an exhaustive test I know, but it does look like a viable setup if one already has a spare L2 switch
and do not wish to spend more for a smart switch.  (For my setup, I am buying a TL-SG105e cos I
want my setup to be VLAN aware and cannot afford to depend on an L2 switch that happen to be well behaved).

Previously bought a UAC AP LR for my degree final year project.
Now use for home as an extra AC, however i found that the speed is slower than just my router itself (and it's a cheap router, AC1200 provided by TIME).

What gives? Is it due to the fact that it's only 2x2MIMO? I don't think that plays too much of a role since i believe my router itself is also 2X2..

Check cable if negotiating 1gbps or 100mbps

If on 5ghz try changing the channel width to 40/80mhz on your AP
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

If on 2.4ghz check for a clear channel by doing an RF Scan
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Select a channel between 1,6,11 with the least interference and a channel width of 20mhz.
You can also use 40mhz channel width for 2.4ghz but not recommended if interference is high

Thanks for your advice. I've actually done those before, using either 40/80mhz channel for 5GHz (i'm only using 5ghz, not 2.4ghz), as well as run RF scan and use the totally empty channel.
however relegated back to using my own router due to the speed.
Will try it again when I have time. Need to check the cabling and make sure it's running on a high quality Cat5e minimum.

Alright, cause i previously bought from them hand carry at their office, quite inconvenient. Synchroweb also not bad but no stock that time. So i was looking to try other distributors for this bigger project.

Hi all,
Anyone is using ubiquiti product with tmnet issued router, tplink AC1200? Im planning to use UAP-AC-LR with the router but I heard there are issues with the vlan tagging with the ac1200. Any feedback? Thanks.

Just vlan tag at tp-link dial the router

UAP-AC-LR no need to do any vlan tagging unless u want a separate vlan for ur wifi network

I suggest you dish the tplink ac1200 as main router replace it with mikrotik

Set tplink ac1200 as ap along with UAP-AC-LR

Thank you for the suggestion.
Which mikrotik would you recommend?
Checkout sublime lazada page and there are too many models, cant even tell whats the difference.
Im mainly using for home usage but need to use conference call regularly, ie: skype.
