hehe amusing. i think the people should be responding is the people who is using an iphone as we speak.

you don't have to subscribe to AT&T when you purchased an iphone from the US. when you buy an iphone, you are required to activate it via itunes. so if you dont activate it, then you just have a locked iphone. but since there's countless ways to unlock it, then..lol...

theres so many paranoid people in this thread.

doesn't mean when u purchased the iphone for 399USD, its compulsory that you sign up with AT&T and get billed monthly..thats entirely up to you..not them..
*
thanks for pointing that out.

not everyone knows about that, paranoia.

as different country have different system. for example malaysia dont have contract subscription at all that comes with free phone and free minutes monthly, while for EU, you wont be able to get a phone at its advertised price unless you subscribed to their plan.

Finally had the chance to play with an iPhone today (friend visiting from US, had one in his pocket).

Wow.

The interface was amazing. From the articles I read, I never imagined how smooth and visceral the interaction would be. Moving things around on the screen was like moving objects around on a table. It was impossible to stop touching and playing with it. Even the keyboard worked better than I expected; within a few minutes I was typing away at near full speed.

Very impressive. Unfortunately it's still missing some key features (native ssh client, SIP client, 3G), or I would have ordered one tonight.

Back home now , in KL. Sorry to those requesting to get iPhones for them, im already here, and my scouring of the Apple Stores only came about during the last few days of my stay in the US, and im pretty much overwhelmed with setting up my home there. I apologize again.

Also, good news on the unlocking part, Celcom works beautifully on mine. The unlocking, when followed step-by-step, is a no-brainer. May opt to get a Digi account to see how it performs on EDGE, a significant downgrade for me since im used to 3G/3.5G speeds.

Again i apologize to those asking for my help purchasing the iPhone. My stay went really hectic during the last few days, i couldnt devote much time to do much scouring. I was in LA and Orlando/Miami/Tampa during my last 16 days, but mostly spent on getting my home "makeover" there, decor, wall paneling, furnishing...the works... as well as flying off to Florida for my anniversary with my beloved. I may be back in the States on November/December though.

Had a last minute trip to Floida Mall for a quick peek at their just released iPod Touch, cant resist although darling beloved warned against doing things outside vacationing. tongue.gif Upon inspection, im glad i went the iPhone way, the screens are much much better on the iPhone compared to the iPod Touch. There are visible lag issues with video playback on the iPod Touch too. Other differences would be the thickness(or in this caes the thinness) of the two products, the Touch being thinner, but im not a subscriber of the RAZR mindset (thinner=better). iTunes Wifi Store is up and running on the iPod Touch, but not on retail iPhones bought off store counter, although the display units of the iPhones in the Apple Store does have the iTunes iconon it, and accessible as well. Didnt check for the firmware update version, like i said , i was in a hurry to the airport.

Special thanks goes to Lexta for his tips and info on the unlocking part, you rule, buddy!

As one of the "many" that inqured about the possibility of "tumpang-ing" an iPhone... no apology needed buddy! Was just trying my luck at getting my hands on the elusive device.

For the others still on the hunt: good luck. The software iPhone unlock (available free online) works on Maxis (all functions) so now's the time to buy!

Sorry guys... I've been misinformed.

The software unlock process does NOT work with Maxis (call-in) yet.

So I guess it's better to wait.

They probably can but the bills is gonna ridiculous. I mean extremely ridiculous. Better unlock it for free and use local telco for local calls.
