if the casing has superb air flow, any case fan is good

the fact is, if ur casing is kinda suck in air flow, no matter what fan u use, the air flow is gonna suck anyway smile.gif

Air flow, yes, but not cooling. Good case fans are used for excellent cooling of hardware like HDD, NB, SB, Graphics and CPU.

Good case fans doesn't mean good cooling for hardware heatsinks.

Good fans tends to have better bearing and the ability to produce decent airflow at low noise level(dba) or low vibration. Good fans for heatsink are probably fan with high pressure and high cfm.

I would choose a casing with good airflow over good fan. Even a basic Vizo fan works well in cooling.

Hmm...I was categorizing all those fans as the same, Noctua, Scythe, Silverstone, CM, NMB, NMB-MAT, etc. Just their function is different; either for ventilation or heatsink.

First of all it should be 8cm, 9cm and 12cm fan that u are asking..

There are few brands that offer quiet and near silent fans

Silent
Noctua, Scythe

Quiet
Akasa, Yate Loon, CoolerMaster

There should be more ... but usually hard to source ...

Anyway all those brands do offer 8 and 12cm. however,it's a bit hard those in 9cm.

Two ways to control fan speed, Motherboad or Speed controller.

Motherboard adjust speed through chip embedded within the motherboard controlled by software. It works by adjusting the voltage supply to fan on each header.

to control fan speed on motheboard the fan must comes with speed sensor wire usually comes in Yellow.. or fan that has three wires leading from motor. Plug it to motherboad and adjust it in BIOS or 3rd party software like speedfan in Window environment.

As for speed controller, it comes with two rom slot size, 3.5" and 5.3" ..

It comes with 3 to 8 knots to control each individual fan. Most of time it could control the fan speed down to minimal but not 0 RPM ..

It just doesn't make sense to have fan running at 0 RPM ... better just switch it off right ?

Wrong section.

Too large image.

Not much use blowing towards HDD while another fan blows from there.

Thank you for the fan list Doom.I am actually plan to get a silent fan to replace my power supply fan.
The power supply that I'm currently using was Enermax FMA 350W which build with 2 fans.It stated with adjustable 8cm fan.
Please help me to look whether both fans are 8 cm through the picture. If there are 2 fans how do I replace them ?
I know someone will suggest me get a new power supply but up until now not even one person can suggest me a good quiet/silent PSU.
I have been asking around http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/617636 but not even one forumer can confirm 80-90% for a silent power supply. They just reply "try this and that PSU but they haven't use before even ST56F having buzzing noise.I don't want to regret after wasting RM300 for a PSU which is not silent.

Now I just plan to open the PSU and change the fan , but I am know nothing about changing PSU fan hoping someone can suggest a silent fan and also guiding me through how to replace a Dual PSU fan.Budget for both fans RM0 - RM 120 MAX , PSU RM0 - RM 330MAX hoping for less than RM100 both fan and less then RM 260 for PSU

Thank you notworthy.gif

ive tried the CM 450W Real Power PSU and yeah its silent...so u can try that.

if u wanna change fan...i think that enermax u using comes with 8cm (rear) and 9cm (bottom) so ull need to find fans of appropriate size....

problem with getting silent fans is that they usually dont push that much air. but for me...if i want silence i usually dont look at other brands than CM...they make good silent fans that pushes minimal but decent amount of air... as for how to change...ur just gonna have to take it out and look at the cables.. and match them back

I'm using ST56F and it's silent. I'm a silent freak as well, and you can be assured that I'm not exaggerating. If it has buzzing noise, it's a broken unit. 80mm fan, you can get Zalman or Silverstone Suscool. Both of them commonly found.

Apart from Noctua and Scythe that cost about RM60 for a fan at 8cm size ..

others cost about RM20...

If u are looking into silent PSU, u could try Zalman heat pipe PSU which is really know for quietness.

I could also recommend Corsair PSU which is generally quiet enough for me ..

just for your information I'm definitely the silent geek... u could check with other forumer about my built style ..

I'm using solely Noctua fan in my case... brows.gif
