Acoustically transparent screen.
When you go to a THX-certified cinema, the LCR speakers are behind the screen.

For home, you obviously will need to have a big room to do this optimally.

Most people can't, so the option would be to get a horizontal center channel. However, there are several horizontal CC designs and depending on your usage and room layout, you will have to choose carefully on which to get.

Too long to explain in a post, so read here - http://www.audioholics.com/loudspeaker-des...annel-designs-1

to have a perfect center speaker placement, you either use an acoustic transparent screen, or sacrifice visual quality by placing the screen higher/lower.

ooo we're talking projector + screen already. What about using TV as a display, what is recommended center speaker? What criteria to put into consideration. Let say my LR freq response 45-50khz

@bolded
Please, read the link I posted above. All your answers are there.

You can have L/R that goes down to 15hz and tops out at 80khz, no one will be able to tell you what center channel to get. Again, rule of thumb is try and match the LCR tonally. It's a matter of trial and error.

The easiest way to get a tonally matched center is to get one from the same series as your main left/right speakers.

For example:
http://www.klipsch.com/products/reference-...-systems#rp-280
In this case, if you have Klipsch RP-280F as your left/right, get the RP-450C as the center, not the G-28.
The best is to get another RP-280F as the center, but we understand your constraint.

For movie Center speaker is the most important follow by front than sub. Sensitivity is not much of a concern but rather the size and power handling
*
QUOTE(SSJBen @ Aug 9 2016, 10:42 PM)
Generally, the higher the sensitivity, the easier it is for an amp to drive the speakers. There's no set standard of what speakers you should get based on sensitivity alone because there are just way too many factors that can affect volume output at the end of the chain.

Also take note that like all specifications in regards to the "numbers game", take them with a grain of salt. Many speaker manufacturers simply state for example 90db. But whether that was tested on a true 300hz-3khz band at a voltage of 2.83v at 1 meter per watt or not, well no one knows except for the maker themselves.

Thank you so much. Anybody here use ELAC speakers here? I read a lots of good review about B5 speaker.

They're good bookshelfs for the money. You'd generally need to spend more than twice the B5s to get double the audio quality. That says a lot.

Dont buy speakers based on reviews.. listen first [if possible for long whiles..] ; you'd be surprised you don't like a uber expensive model with the overflowing reviews..

Some pretty good deals there.

For receivers:
1) Entry-level wise, the Yamaha RX-v379 at RM1099 is pretty much a no brainer. I'll drive home the point again, this is the best entry-level receiver on the market currently. No other receiver at this price point would be as reliable as the v379 (which consequently has the highest amount of sales worldwide for a 2015 receiver).

2) For a more mid-range budget, RM2k for the Yamaha v679 is another solid choice. Understand that the overpriced A750 is basically just a re-named v679 with an additional fifth foot. Don't fall for the marketing bs.

3) Denon X5200w while is a little old in the tooth now with no DTSX support, it is still a very good receiver at RM4k. However the Yamaha RX-A1050 is RM100 cheaper with DTS:X support, but limited to only 7 channels processing while the x5200w has 9. I honestly think at the sub-RM4k bracket, one should just focus on a solid no-frills 7.1 (or .2) setup. Don't cheap out on ground layer speakers just because you want height speakers.

For speakers:
...Unfortunately, nothing really catches my eye except the Wharfedale Jades. Won't say they are absolute bang-for-buck kings, but they're decently priced I'd say. Wharfedale usually have a very warm signature sound, which I don't really like for HT usage. The Jades are still warm speakers by design, but they're more towards the neutral side in comparison to their other line-ups (especially the popular Diamonds).

As such, I'd feel that the Wharfedale Jades are nice and fun sounding speakers for movies and games, while still having the intimacy when it comes to music. Worth a listen definitely.

Dean Ben,
How do I play my flac file stored in a hard disk to this Yamaha amplifier? What I know is , this V379 model doesn't have usb input right?
If other models have USB input, we can easily connect a harddisk and play the music files, right?

thank you in advance.

Well, you can't, not directly at least. The v379 has no networking features, so DLNA or streaming off your local network is not possible.
Yes you are correct, there is no USB inputs either (which is dumb, I know) so local storage playback is not possible as well.

Of course, the work-around is that you can just connect a source with a HDMI/optical and play your music that way.

Other models with USB input can indeed play music files off a local storage device.

that is what really baffles me...
usb input is one features that I like. I can straight away play all my flac collection directly by connecting my 1tb harddisk.

Instead now I have to open another player, like ps4 or media player just to play my music...right???

So meaning for V379 amp, I need to used another player just to play music files. Am I correct??

thank you again.

Either the v479 (RM1749) or v481 (RM1949). However, both models are so close in price to the v679 that I suggest just going for the v679 instead.

If you dare to roll the dice, the Pioneer VSX-924k at RM1499 has USB playback support for music. Just know that the Pioneer VSX line has been very shabby in the last few years, you either get a unit that doesn't break or one that just doesn't work for no logical reason. Otherwise the VSX-924 is an okay-ish AVR.

Snapped up the RX-A1050. So want to ask for recommendation for speakers and subwoofer to be paired with the receiver. Think I'll start with 3.1 setup first. Mainly use for movies and music. Budget is 2k to 2.5k.
*
RM2.5k for 3 speakers + a sub or 2.5k for each component? If it's the former, then it's going to be very hard to recommend anything with decent quality.

Because there are a lot more people who buy entry level subs than more expensive ones.

It's RM2.5k for 3 speakers and 1 sub.  blush.gif  blush.gif  blush.gif  blush.gif  blush.gif
*
Sony SS-CS3 x 2 = RM1200
Sony SS-CS8 = RM499

Forget the sub.
With your budget, the sub that you can get will be rubbish and you'll just end up throwing it away in less than a year. Get the front 3 speakers, save till you have another RM3k and then get a proper sub.

TBH, if I were you, I wouldn't even do 3 speakers with a RM2.5k budget. I'd just pour it all into an ELAC Debut F5 floorstanders if space permits (RM2.8k), otherwise if space is an issue I'd get just get a pair of SVS Prime Bookshelfs for RM2.5k+/- or so.
