May you share your view of onkyo 5.1 speakers? I have a plan to setup first HT to replace my HTiB. Now still undecide whether to buy separate speaker or 5.1 package speakers. As a HTiB user, I only focus on movies.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't? Unless you're in a big room (like over 500sq. feet or something) and sit like 20ft. away from the speakers, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

As a fussy consumer, I decided to pick up near year end sales together with a new led TV. As for AV receiver, I'll see if any AVR with Dolby Atmos available and if not I'll just get a 5.1 or 71. Yamaha AVR without Dolby Atmos.

It seems like no promotion from Desa Home Theatre for month August.

Most stores have already sold out their Aventage xx50 receivers.

i am using SKF330 speaker family comes from HT-S580 package. It was real basic speaker (sell at mudah http://www.mudah.my/Onkyo+SKF+330+AV+speak...t-46895435.htm) so, i didnt expect much.

those speaker are my current setup, plan to replace front with cs3. Do you ever heard of Sony SS MF500H before, i got this second hand dirt cheap any thought?

I used to have HTIB and was later upgraded to avr with an onkyo 5.1 speaker package but the sq doesn't improved much just slightly higher output. The dialogue and surround effects is not good. If can, better go for separate speakers.

Thank you for your info. The outcome from Google search, recommended speaker for movie purpose is to get a good center speaker. Do you all really agree with this? What kind of sensitivity of speaker i must look at?

For movie Center speaker is the most important follow by front than sub. Sensitivity is not much of a concern but rather the size and power handling

Generally, the higher the sensitivity, the easier it is for an amp to drive the speakers. There's no set standard of what speakers you should get based on sensitivity alone because there are just way too many factors that can affect volume output at the end of the chain.

Also take note that like all specifications in regards to the "numbers game", take them with a grain of salt. Many speaker manufacturers simply state for example 90db. But whether that was tested on a true 300hz-3khz band at a voltage of 2.83v at 1 meter per watt or not, well no one knows except for the maker themselves.

Center speaker should match with your mains [ LR ]
If you can afford it, get exactly the same for all 3 LCR..

how to match the speaker? what parameter need to look for? Frequency response?

Same range.. for de similar driver characteristics
Or better exactly the same.. meaning get 2 sets [2 X LR] of same speaker then use 3 of these and keep one unit as spare.. If floorstanders use 3 x..

if floorstander, how to put 3rd one? its gonna be a huge speaker

to have a perfect center speaker placement, you either use an acoustic transparent screen, or sacrifice visual quality by placing the screen higher/lower.
