Harvey Norman will frequently have their Delonghi, Saeco and Breville representatives do demos of the equipment. I got a demo of the Delonghi Dinamica yesterday at Harvey Norman IOI City Mall during their Leap Day sale. All I can say is the latte felt off on many levels. Obviously I have no idea what beans was used although the milk was fresh. The cleaning routine looked a lot more involved than I expected. I recommend bringing your beans and doing a taste test.

My normal routine is using the Breville 920 dual boiler with a Eureka Mignon grinder with beans from Reframe, Fmarketing on shopee or Beanshipper.

If I had to choose between the options you listed, I'd go for the Brevilles because you have a bit more of the extra control as you have the option to dose and tamp yourself. Ideally the touch because it automates the milk steaming as well. But the recommendations others have made are very valid, you'll likely make a better cup with a semi auto and a good grinder

Good luck

I was at Harvey Norman Mutiara Damansara yesterday, initially plan to have a demo for the Authentica, but was told no more and it is a discontinued model. She then recommended me the Dinamica, wanted a demo, but too bad the lady is not familiar with the machine.

Thank you very much for your input and other sifus as well, will bring along some beans for a demo on my next visit.

Hi all, first time posting here.

I am currently considering which grinder to purchase for espresso. Anyone know where I can get a Compak K3 here and what is the estimated price? Thanks.

Yeah, got a quotation from them. Still comparing Eureka Mignon Manuale and Compak K3. Anyone can comment on retention and ease of cleaning the burs? And general performance? Thanks.

where do you guys normally get your beans from?
*
I got mine from perk coffee. Had their taster packs Sumatra Timo (dark roast), Brazil Cerrado (medium) and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe (light). I liked the Cerrado the most and Yirgacheffe the least, probably too bright for my taste atm. The timo has quite a body depending on how you brew it. Then recently I got their Urbanite Blend (medium), and it's really good as well. Nice balance. I'm waiting for my beanshipper blaq box to ship out on the 9th of march, but so far I really like the Cerrado and Urbanite. I brew using V60, I'm still pretty new to coffee and I just follow videos online to brew like the kasuya 4:6. I've tried french press and hated it, couldn't stomach it, but once I used v60 even when using same beans I started enjoying coffee. My grind setting for v60 is 10-12 clicks on hario mill slim.

I see more discussion on coffee equipment here, so was hoping got more discussion on beans and stuff that are easier to get here.

I've been experimenting with the v60, and I realised that I can't use the same brew time when im using more or less coffee. Like 12g of coffee I follow let's say 3:00 it's perfect, but then I move up to 20g it's not the same, and of course when I move to 40g its also not the same.

I can slowly test and experiment which i'll be doing anyways. But does anyone have any advice or tips on how to get consistent across the different amounts of coffee I use? I use the same coffee:water ratio each time.

Try to avoid espresso at this time; it's a very finicky brew technique requiring a lot of hardware, mostly expensive. The window of getting it right is very narrow compared to others.

Aeropress is always a good device. There are a lot of parameters you can experiment with (water ratios, steep time, grind size, filter types) so will not only give you very nice brews, but also you won't outgrow fast.

If you check around the technique that the vast majority of coffee appreciation enthusiasts go back to time and time again is the pour over. You can match the world class baristas in terms of equipment with a simple filter holder and a gooseneck kettle. Even the iconic V60 only costs RM 50ish.

By far the more important question is: what grinder do you have or plan to get?

Try to explore smartphone app of coffee.guru.
I used that when I was doing French press.

Checking it out icon_rolleyes.gif . Also using Brew Timer because the timer function kinda easy to use, and easy to adjust.

Go through 3-4 rounds of coffee. It'll suck up the smell and any residue.
Ideally don't drink that coffee biggrin.gif

What you're seeing is perfectly normal. Unfortunately I don't believe there's a fix rule and how to scale the time vs dose. This is because the coffee bed behaves very differently with different doses due to fluid dynamics within. I'm fairly certain at one point, the V60 will underextract the coffees because there's insufficient water:coffee contact time.

If we look at the V60 design, as we add more coffee, the resistance in the middle will keep rising. However, the resistance along the sides will most likely stay the same. In theory, once there's enough coffee in the middle, the water - choosing the path of least resistance, will sneak pass from the sides.

I've mostly been brewing in the range of 15g-20g yielding up to 320ml or so coffee with decent results using the same amount of time but by pouring the water much faster
Beyond that, I'm not to sure. Interested to hear from the rest as well

Had a look at the Compak K3 Touch Advanced. The demo unit was not able to grind espresso fine until the top part was unscrewed and some cleaning was done and the burr recalibrated. Seems like I might run into this problem in the future if I buy this model. Anyone have used this model before and can share your experience? Much appreciated.

how much is it?

compak is an old reputable company...their grinders are all designed for espresso... k3 is same class as mazzer mini 58mm burrs... I particularly like it's fine adjustments method... I would blame it on user error than the grinder itself. no I haven't used it...but I almost got the k10...

For your reading: Dialing in.
I think it's not limited to espresso.
Do you do it everytime you change beans?
