Is it mineral deposit?
Some say vinegar works, 50% vinegar + 50% water, soak for 30 minutes, then try clean again

For maintenance, after each brewing, wipe and dry the moka pot.
Learned my lesson for not wiping them dry, end up showing those spot too. But mine not as serious as yours.

Can try baking soda too

Yes and no, according to James Hoffman. tldr too fine = introduce channeling, poorer result than as compared to slightly coarser but less channeling.

Hey guys,

Getting into espresso making. Will be buying a Breville Bambino Plus soon. Anyone can recommend a grinder to go along with it? Thinking of getting the Breville Dose Control Pro.

I drink mostly Americano with the occasional Cappuccino.

Hi all, the intention of this my first post in this forum is to make friends to learn, share, and exchange experiences about coffee. Of course, that's can be done in the forum but am after something even more like visiting each other to try out and explore:
- coffee beans
- recipe / techniques
- cupping
- espresso maker
- grinder
- even portafilter, tamper, distributor / leverer tools etc

Hopefully from there we will learn from each other more about coffee.

I started to like luwak coffee with syphon brew in Bali about 6 years ago.
Tried quite some coffees in different cafe but I was quite confused and lost... How a coffee should taste?
I know this is very much individual preferences. Let me explain it this way. Say one tells that his body shape that is with big beer belly is the perfect shape of man's body, you may agree if you don't need anything about the shape of a body builder.
I went for a short learning session about coffee - still confused. I then took a 2 days course and learned quite a bit about coffee. Of course, that doesn't make me better than the most of your with far more experience, but I am keen to learn and experience more

I live in Subang Jaya.
Other than the Hario syphon set (too time consuming to use), I also have French press, the classic Oscar and Eureka Mignon.
I do invite friends to my house for coffee from time to time. Just hope to meet more friends who are really into coffee like me so that we can share more :-)

Looks like a good machine, but for that price point you could go for gaggia classic then modify the steam wand with a rancilio steam wand.

As for grinder, I'd suggest you invest a little bit more. Go for Sette 270 which is about RM1,900 more future proof

Sounds good!

Did you upgraded your oscar with opv kit?

I own a oscar 2 and eureka mignon, same setting bro. rclxm9.gif

Thing is what do you want to know about coffee? More in-depth into crops and the bean processes?

The origin of coffee > Types of Crops > Types of Beans > Coffee Picking > Type of Processes > Roasting > Brewing > Tasting

That's the basic of it.

i would suggest to take advice from Cloud2322. i am BES870 owner and i have tried play around with bambino also at shop... it is a great machine with great steam wand but lack the weight....what i mean lack the weight is the usability of putting in and taking out the portafilter will be a hassle because the machine is light weight so you need to hold the machine to take out or put in the portafilter. then u will need extra grinder like Cloud2322 said... Sette 270 is a good one....

if you are budget conscious then get BES870 as start with everything in... else if got extra budget like Cloud2322 suggest get a good grinder.. sette will do a better job than breville dose control pro because sette is an espresso grinder... generally a large range grinder (means cover from coarse for filter coffee till espresso fine size) offer limited range for espresso dial.. espresso grinder is good if u stick to espresso only...
for the entry level espresso machine,.. try gaggia or rancilio. both using commercial size portafilter 58mm and personally i would prefer rancilio silvia .. it takes a bit to learn but its fun if u love espresso... u can google and read the review....

for sette official distributor is pppcoffee shop in bangsar...
for rancilio...official distributor is boncafe
for gaggia...i dunno.. tongue.gif

so far one thing to note.... you will see people/sales said... rancilio or gaggia those hand made la, from italy la etc etc.... which you won't find in normal harvey normal shop like breville.... so wats the diff... breville i understand is china mass made hence the cheaper price... and rancilio or gaggia probably really italy made... price wise... sure rancilio and gaggia more expensive cause you need to "invest" in another grinder.... but espresso wise.... both machines able to produce excellent espresso... i am in my third year probably fourth year using bes870...so far no issue. i make a dual shot espresso per day every day....

The previous owner did a nice upgrade. Yes, it is the OPV kit.

My interest is more to:
- what more we can do with what we already have
- tasting the same coffee shot of coffee and share opinions
- maybe someone can share that brewing it up to say 35s may taste nicer for a particular beans, or do you flush before brewing as temp may be too high? Maybe they are some standard answers already but someone telling you his real experience or the few get together trying it out will be a good experience, right?
- learning from each others from people's machine, like when I do it from your machine when the way I usually brew mine, I may learn or that may inspire something... Can be simple thing like 58mm tamper against 58.35mm. It doesn't change the taste but maybe the convenience and how clean it will turn out
- mostly people would recommend something that they have used and familiar with. The rule of thumb is usually the more expensive the better the product. I watch this youtube of this Gail of Seattle Coffee Gear, which she compared espresso makers that cost $300 and $3000. Yes, there's difference but if the taste is not so significantly different then the price x taste is something that worth to consider. Most important of all, if the person who's drinking it can't tell the difference between the 2, then that investment may be not necessary.
- meeting each other will promote the interest to want to explore and a motivation to improve in order to make ourselves a better coffee. I do from time to time observe the way cafe's baristas brew coffee. How they froth the milk and how many time people served you a cappuccino when you ordered a latte?

That's the basic of it.

ymeng85 is right. update to 18g IMS basket.

I'm currently looking for someone to share the delivery cost from europe. Apparently, there's already a person willing to share

The basket is 14.5EUR, shipping is 18EUR. If share between 3 person we can reduce the shipping to 6EUR each person biggrin.gif

Apparently 1 basket is RM180 in Malaysia. WTF

20.5EUR is less than RM100, let me know if you wanted to upgrade your basket and your screen.

PM me if you want to join the party

1. Taste is very subjective. Some people have sharpen sense and some not.
2. Brewing time, water yield, courseness and everything does have impact on the coffee. But we could hardly taste the differences
3. I'm testing on this, waiting for my OPV and IMS shower screen + basket to arrive. So I could reduce my brew pressure from 15bar to 9bar and water distribution to see how much does it impact the coffee's taste. Not sure how much does tamper size would affect the taste, I would say the tamper skill.
4. For the 300$ vs 3000$ machine, there's definitely differences. But it's people to people, if you like your espresso good enough. Yes they are, but about the taste notes outcome might be differ
5. When it comes to espresso it's all about grind size, tampering, brewing pressure, water quality, water temperature and good channeling.

I would say able to brew a cup of very good specialty coffee is more interesting.

Invite me when you have gesha beans. hahaha I would definitely come over and share my experience
