Giraffe is a pretty decent cable brand. HDMI are digital cables, so an ultra-expensive one won't make any difference from an ultra-cheapo one (unless you have no signal, of course). No need to waste cash on "branded" cables for HDMI.

Thanks for the input.

i've asked around & suprisingly it's suppose to be cheaper than the 5986. maybe around rm330, at legend at least. the explanation is that there are some 'features' lacking in the 5996 compared to the 5986.

I just come back from the KLAV. Where did you see the 5996 at RM360?

At the grond floor I saw 5986 and also 5996 at Desa Petaling Electric I think. But the boy over there said that the 5986 he can give me RM360 and for 5996 he can give me RM 380. The difference between 5986 and the 5996 that I saw was that the 5996 can play SACD. I dont know whether I'm going to use that feature or not.

So I think I better go for the 5986. What do u guys thing.

if you could live without HDMI upscale , just buy a korean capalang brand call AGIP with DIVX and USB . you can only use component cables though.
i own one of these and it play all kind of rubbish dvd disc i throw in . the only complaint is that is damn noisy if the disc are running .

what the heck , it cost only RM 135 about 9 months ago . check it out at tesco

hey...i got this too...but i guess my new philips 5996 will replace this...coz my hd65 got hdmi input...so very gatal to use the input...haha

actually the AGIP is not too bad for the price...too bad it can't really upscale some ori dvds...set some of these dvds to 720p...it'd still go back to 576i...but pic still good though

Pioneer DVDP is always rich in colour. I have 2 units, DV-676A and DV-400S. Both churn out nice PQ compare to Sony and Tosh. No chance to test Philips though.

Technically it should be the same because Pioneer and Sony are both using the Mediatek chip, PQ should be sebiji the same. What I don't like about Pioneer, it's not as reliable as last time, the lens usually fail after 1-2 years. Have a few friends with the same problem.

600AV got better PQ than 5986k. Immediate noticeable difference.
