The latest philips DVP 5996/98 HDMI player should retail at RM 499 or thereabout . well that's just a guess

once this model is launch , the 5986 price should fell to around RM 250 , well that's another guess

I'm looking for new HDMI dvd player. Which one between the list would be a best buy.

1) Pioneer DV-400s

2) Pioneer DV- 600av

3) Samsung DVD-1080K

4) Phillips 5996K/98

5) Sony NS780

Between the above can you guys help me out.... Or if you have any more DVD player for me to consider. brows.gif

if you could afford ofcoz lah the pioneer DV-600 or otherwise the philips DV 5986 is very popular all over the world as it is known as the king of playability . i thought the NS708 dont have a USB and sammy 1080 may have some playability issues.

if i read you correctly ,your best buy translated into affordability will be DV 5986

DV 5996K will be in the market soon

if you could live without HDMI upscale , just buy a korean capalang brand call AGIP with DIVX and USB . you can only use component cables though.
i own one of these and it play all kind of rubbish dvd disc i throw in . the only complaint is that is damn noisy if the disc are running .

what the heck , it cost only RM 135 about 9 months ago . check it out at tesco

i've asked around & suprisingly it's suppose to be cheaper than the 5986. maybe around rm330, at legend at least. the explanation is that there are some 'features' lacking in the 5996 compared to the 5986.

i have check with the L shop last week and they said 5996 have yet to be released . RM 330 is for the 5986 model lah
