Anyone knows the best price for Pioneer DV410S? That unit is very similar to Philips 5996.

It has USB ver2.0, and all the upcpnverting etc. Most of all, it also has an optical output. My older digital amp only takes in optical (NO coaxial)

New Philip DVD DVP5996K/98 which can support SACD (Multi-channel SACD for total music immersion)

But Pioneer DV410S cannot support SACD. tongue.gif ...which definitely not the same....SACD cannot use optical or Coaxial output. Moreover Philip DVD DVP5996K/98 can support USB connectivity to Hardisk(FAT32) to play DIVX file. But, I am not sure for this Pioneer DV410S wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

Wanna to know whether this Philip DVD DVP5996K/98 already start selling in Malaysia or dunno for sure how much now thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

HSL is around RM290 whereas Boon AV Gurney Plaza, Penang is selling it at RM280 for cash payment. Might be cheaper in KL but that's the best price here in Penang as far as I know.

if you could afford ofcoz lah the pioneer DV-600 or otherwise the philips DV 5986 is very popular all over the world as it is known as the king of playability . i thought the NS708 dont have a USB and sammy 1080 may have some playability issues.

if i read you correctly ,your best buy translated into affordability will be DV 5986

DV 5996K will be in the market soon

Which HSL is selling this model 5986 at RM290?

I called the Klang branch and he told me the price is RM399. Surprise... HSL has 5996 in their database at RM370. Klang Branch doesn't have stock for 5996. At RM370... maybe it is a good buy.

Pioneer 410S is going for RM540. Pricey. sad.gif

Yday, I tried to watch Top Gear DViX via my DV-400S. It took it light years to detect via USB. Took it out and plug into my PS3. Play instantly.

Thanks.... so I narrowed my option to Pioneer and Phillips. I quote Phillips 5996K because I saw it on Phillips website. So are you sure Phillips 5996K is not in the market yet.

Is it true that Phillips DV5986 is the king of playability. How about its ability to read from USB ... is it good?

If then maybe I should go for the DV 5986.

if you could live without HDMI upscale , just buy a korean capalang brand call AGIP with DIVX and USB . you can only use component cables though.
i own one of these and it play all kind of rubbish dvd disc i throw in . the only complaint is that is damn noisy if the disc are running .

what the heck , it cost only RM 135 about 9 months ago . check it out at tesco

The latest philips DVP 5996/98 HDMI player should retail at RM 499 or thereabout . well that's just a guess

once this model is launch , the 5986 price should fell to around RM 250 , well that's another guess

For the price Philips is SURE King of Playability.

Regarding USB performance, depends on the USB stick...I got over ambitious and bought a 8GB Sandisk MICRO Cruzer USB so that i dun have to burn .avi to DVD.
What I didn't know iS 4GB above, 90% of USB sticks in the market are slow! Tried it with my friends 8GB Kingston even worst..
My Kingston 1GB one works flawlessly. Rule of the thumb, the higher the USB stick capacity, the slower it gets.

THe effects of a slower USB stick is shuttering when high graphics scenes. Unless you wanna go High Capacity with a speed demon like Corsair GT, Sandisk Ducatti or Sandisk Contour, you should stick to 4GB below.

The good news abt the USB port is if you are a download junky, you can use a hardisk formatted in Fat32. Best is not to use a laptop hdd as it uses USB power. Get those higher speed desktop versions...better know as 3.5inch types with external power.

One more thing, some security USB sticks are equipped with hardcoded password that cannot erased ( I not talking abt the common and trendy U3 passwords that are an option to install)
These security sticks have hardware protection for passwords that simply will not erase even after formatting. These kinda USB cannot be played on the philips player. You have been warned.
