Thinking of getting a good upscaling dvd player during the av show. Any idea how much the pioneer dvlx-50 will be then? I'm also looking at a few denon dvd players. I understand the cost of the dvlx-50 is about RM3k+ which is a bit high. Most likely looking at the 1940 or 2930.

As I understand it, the Denon 1940 is RM1k+, the Denon 2930 is RM2k+ and the Denon 3930 is RM3k+. Both 2930 and 3930 are having clearance now.

Can anyone comment on whether it's worth getting the 2930 or 3930 compared with the dvlx-50 or 1940?

Does anyone have a 1940, 2930 or 3930 and can they please share their experiences?

I made some survey around KL and I found out that the price of Phillips 5986 is at RM 399. And it includes one HDMI giraffe cable. But I have been told that the 'free' cable is not so good because it is free and the size of the cable is only small.

So if i buy the phillips 5986 should I buy a new HDMI cable or just stick with the giraffe cable. Is there really a difference and it is noticeable?

What is the acceptable HDMI cable and what about the price?

It shouldn't be RM399 now, even SenQ and Boon AV in PG are selling at RM290. Try shopping around.

anyone can get Oppo HD981 here???

kl av show is near...wanna get a good hdmi dvd player with a budget under rm300...to be used with my new optoma hd65 (tq htkaki!)

it must be able to play all ahem dvds... dont want those sensitive ones

so which dvd player from the ones you've discussed is the best and can do very good upcnversion dtuties? better with free hdmi cable ...

...or shud i top up a bit and get the latest model around that price range? what brand / model better?

or am i not making sense here coz will a projector do upscaling jobs too? gosh...a bit confused already...haha

Get the ultimate "cheap" "best" player....Oppo 983HD....for USD399....
or even the Oppo 981HD will do the job excellently

usd399 is like rm1500...haha...shud just get a blue ray player or ps3 i think

I could get a Oppo 981HD for less than 1k but review said that the Faruoja DCDi chipset doesn't work very good with plasma/DLP display....due to macroblock issue....so reluctant a bit....so am waiting for the price of 983HD to come down if I can get a chance to get it....

AV show coming soon....yeaaaa.....dunno have the philip new model DVD 5996/98 or not......

Many forummer said Philip 5986 is the king of those range DVD....if compare to sony or Pioneer similar range
But, Philip have come out the newer version (5996/98) which have better connectivity and can support SACD

Giraffe is a pretty decent cable brand. HDMI are digital cables, so an ultra-expensive one won't make any difference from an ultra-cheapo one (unless you have no signal, of course). No need to waste cash on "branded" cables for HDMI.
