Pioneer DVDP is always rich in colour. I have 2 units, DV-676A and DV-400S. Both churn out nice PQ compare to Sony and Tosh. No chance to test Philips though.

600AV got better PQ than 5986k. Immediate noticeable difference.

You can't use NTFS. Use FAT32. Also some HDD need external power for it to work.

ok, TQ Bro, will reformat my HDD, but from what i heard USB 2.0 is powered connection, means u no need to plug an external power, as long it will run on ur pc without external power, it will run on other USB 2.0 connection such as my 5996..anyway will try to reformat my HDD 1st,then will update u guys later..TQ rclxub.gif
*
I totally agree with u. Why do we need external power source for USB device? rolleyes.gif
In this case we need because the USB port on most DVD players can't provide enuf juice for external HDD.
Its OK with USB thumbrive. My old 7GB 2.5" HDD can run without external power. My new 40GB 2.5" can't and all my desktop HDD also can't. Not without external power. So you have to try yours smile.gif

If you're using HP's external storage media, it's entirely USB powered but majority needs an external power source. My friend is using a different method, he's using Sandisk Ultra 2 32GB SDHC with his Philips to watch his downloaded DIVX clips and movies.

32GB SDHC? sweat.gif

The Ducatti thumbdrive is slightly cheaper now and it's worth getting it, it's freaking fast and I'm using one now. Of course, the Contour is also good enough too.
*
How fast is fast? If double speed than normal one (in real application not on paper) then consider good enuf.

I know 1700 got 5 stars from What Hifi but don't know how it is in real life. Its in the same class as Denon 1930 or 1940. Price also about that range I think around 1.5k.

swt, still no yamaha s661 users out there?

Not something common we can c in shop that's why hard to find anybody use this. Plus it overshadowed by other brands. Just go with Pioneer DV410 la or Philip 5996.

DV600AV highly recommended. PQ is excellent and even better than 5986. I never see any direct comparison between 400/410 with 600AV but AV Forum said 600AV better (only for guidance...don't take it 100% tongue.gif ). SACD is Super Audio CD. Multichannel and suppose to sound better than normal music CD but limited titles and expensive.

I bought mine new at 850 so if yours still under warranty then 650 is a bargain.

Don't worry I'm not that type laugh.gif . What is done is done la. I will implicitly ask him about that whenever I chit chat with him later just to get the info that's all. After all he's my favorite salesman. Always buy things from him. He always give good price and I always push some more out of him laugh.gif
