I didn't know they can "hold" a booking...but i presume calling the call centre will mean no 15% discount?...

*
Holding a booking is possible, but i think it depends on the agent and perhaps FF level.
15% discount even for call in redemption has been documented by other FFers. As long the flight is on SQ metal, you get 15% discount on redemption.

did another round of trial bookings....

cannot see any 30% discounts originating from msia...

but for april 17, no difficulty getting return j tickets to oz with 94k miles and rm1.9k....compared to 120k miles and rm1.2k....

ed: note that this came from the m2c premier thread...the context is which ffp to convert points into...and the question is about the ease of availability of redemption tickets in the 3 ffp treatspoint can convert into....

Thanks to members like bro GenX and bearbear for their tireless efforts in posting all things related to miles and points from a Malaysian perspective. Maybe I should stop being lazy and start posting, maybe focusing on redemption for large groups and families.

Yeah, it's nice to have people to contribute knowledge about the arcane arts of award redemption especially from a Malaysian / Singaporean perspective. Most of the articles / sharing online is from US / Europe where they have different mechanism which is hard to replicate here. I got into utilizing my cards all thanks to bro GenX. without his articles, i think i would still be changing points to vouchers are miserable rates.

yes I started that page, hopefully I may start working on my own site within next couple of months. If any of you think that you don't mind writing about redemption tips or flight review as a hobby maybe we can work something out.

I learned the redemption trick from the legendary captain GenX when he shared extensively for Enrich Miles redemption. Of course also from members around here that share the tricks of redemption. I started collecting TP with Maybank about 1 year after I started working and am glad I did that because 5 years later now I have about half a million miles ready for redemptions although so far i've only managed to redeem a business class ticket once with MH to Japan.

I have HK-SIN and perhaps AKL-SIN with SQ in the pipeline for first half of 2017. Maybe something for christmas if some exciting promo pops up but most of the time I am just a cheapo in a very tight AA seat biggrin.gif

Also looking forward to redeem multi-carrier award ticket with Asia Miles when a suitable schedule comes up. Then maybe I should start looking at first class seats, that is if I still have the miles.

sadly I have 100+k in Enrich, mostly from sign up bonus, redemption through parents (CIMB only convert to Enrich), fly with them or more recently flew with KLM/AF and I only have Enrich which is their partner. How I wish I can transfer these to SQ for my upcoming redemptions.

Some 30k with KF which are directly credited by AMEX

balance are in form of credit cards point

You mean u use parents CIMB card points and redeem into your enrich account? And, why SQ/KF and not Asia Miles ( which has Cathay Pacific)? And lastly, do you have experience redeeming into US? Wonder if KF or Asia miles better?? Thx !!

Exactly. Very easy to be disheartened reading about credit card churning in the US but we make do with what we have. Having access to Enrich, AsiaMiles and Krisflyer offers plenty of options already. Redeeming more exotic cabins like Etihad Apartments or Emirates F remain elusive or at best, requiring a higher amount of miles by transferring between FFPs (absorbing a devaluation of your miles along the way).

cimb yes, they wanted a vacuum that has the same value of 27k Enrich Miles. I bought them the same vacuum (RM400) in exchange. and yes the CC was under my parents name but transfer to enrich under my name.

Asia Miles ask for 30k miles hkg-sin, SQ ask for only 23k on the same route.

no experience redeeming US flights, something I plan to do with Asia Miles multi-carrier award.

i am surprised they allow cross name conversion....maybank used to allow when they still run the online conversion programme....but now that is gone, they don't allow cross name conversion anymore...

I think there is no checking If u redeem online from cimb portal . Just need to key in your enrich account number.

I have redeemed 200k+ enrich miles for 5 j and 1 y one way tickets to oz recently...that completes this year's travels....

Still have about 1 mil treats points which I can't decide which ffp to channel into.... wait and see for the moment...

guys what is the maximum period allowed by Asia Miles on their multi carrier award ticket?

since I have hkg (feb) and akl (may) planned, wonder if I can add on another trip in dec as one redemption.

Below schedule workable?

feb hkg-sin (cx)
may syd-sin (qf/ba)
dec sin-hnd (jal)
dec hnd-gum (jal)
dec gum-hnd-hkg (jal)

I choose syd-sin rather than from nz to reduce the miles.

So far everyone who's been active on this thread has been fine with the ongoing discussion with the exception of ONE person (masked?). I can safely say the majority/"the masses" here would benefit from posts regarding the more intricate and finer points of each FFP. I'd say to draw the line at the three FFPs this card transfers to.

Fruitie - yes you may be right but your attitude remains much to be desired. Mods should hold themselves to higher standards as hye has demonstrated. There is no community and no knowledge without members. It's a two way street.

dctravels, spot on. Personally I find it rewarding and satisfying to finally 'nail' a particularly difficult award redemption. If you're in it for easy bookings, then maybe the miles game is not for you.

I'd like to share a redemption I did last week on KF. Another trick to employ is that you can coax the call center agents to apply a 15% discount and apply "free stopover" rule in SIN citing that particular booking can't be done online (which is almost every booking worth its while).

For those of us based out of KUL sometimes its a bit sian to have to route through SIN every single time, so I tried routing through another *A carrier to see if I could get away with this particular itinerary:

KUL-BKK (TG) <stopover 3 days> BKK-SIN (SQ) <stopover 3 days> SIN-KUL (SQ)

Normally this would be priced as a partner award redemption since there's involvement of TG, and would cost 40k (20k each way, i.e. KUL-BKK-KUL, can't have additional stopover in SIN even if on SQ). The phone agent was able to reduce the miles down to 35k and I was able to coax her to give me a "free stopover" in SIN since it is technically a return trip (normally +USD100). The downside is most flights between KUL-SIN is on MI, and even though their system shows it can be booked, it'll error out and you'd incur more fees and miles. So your only option is probably SQ106 (always full/WL) or SQ116.

As far as the experience goes, TG regional was acceptable at best (the "Thai hospitality" only comes out with angmohs), while SQ regional just blows it out of the water. I was underwhelmed by all the lounges (KUL TG, BKK SKL, SIN T2 SKL) though, especially in T2 Changi. I mean, it's supposed to be your flagship right?

Here's the itinerary in case anyone is interested. Possibly can use to generate similar redemptions involving other cities in the region.

Would love to contribute to a site meant more for community - not just ad revenue. GenX has valuable information but wah his site is riddled with ads.
