there is another trick,

1) first upgrade your wife ticket with your miles
2) when you reach airport, find MH ticket counter, ask for the "last min upgrade" with cash, pay cash to up.

judging from 30k miles per way upgrade, it should be about 4 hour flight journey, cash upgrade may cost RM550 to RM800 per way.
*

How is this last min cash upgrade different from the bidding to upgrade by MH ( done online) ? pros and cons? Also, if use 30,000 miles to upgrade, might as well spend RM550 to RM800 to upgrade with cash right? cheaper.

Last min upgrade only can do at airport counter. always more expensive than MHupgrade online bidding.
Mhupgrade for Beijing i bidded RM 400 and won, some people bidding RM420 for Korea trip also won. But these places would need 30k miles per way upgrade.

So short distance if MH upgrade or cash upgrade at airport available, not worth to do miles upgrade.

Thanks!

*
Why say bye bye? They say to be replaced with even better rewards right? Or is it talk only? tongue.gif

sadly I have 100+k in Enrich, mostly from sign up bonus, redemption through parents (CIMB only convert to Enrich), fly with them or more recently flew with KLM/AF and I only have Enrich which is their partner. How I wish I can transfer these to SQ for my upcoming redemptions.

Some 30k with KF which are directly credited by AMEX

balance are in form of credit cards point
*
You mean u use parents CIMB card points and redeem into your enrich account? And, why SQ/KF and not Asia Miles ( which has Cathay Pacific)? And lastly, do you have experience redeeming into US? Wonder if KF or Asia miles better?? Thx !!

Trying to find out which FF program to collect my miles as I want to redeem flights to US. I played around with Kris Flyer trying to book tickets 1 year out but it is on wait list only. The uncertain nature of the redemption makes it hard to plan trips. May I know what are the better options to secure seats to US? Asiamiles? I don't have account there yet. Should I open one? How is the redemption like? Online or phone call and how certain we can get the tickets? Back to Krisflyer ---- if the waitlist is 1 year out, how soon can they confirm the seats if indeed they are available? TQ.

multi carrier award under asia miles is probably something you want to look at, despite the effort rewuire to book such ticket.
*
The multi carrier award I understand requires a lot of time on the phone which is not suitable for a newbie like me. I am looking at straight forward online booking for clear cut destinations .... Hoping that it is much easier to secure seats 10 months to a year out on Asiamiles. This KF, although the points very cheap, but cannot get confirmed seats no point la..I don't want to be on wait list and then if last minute still cannot get seat , my whole holiday plan goes down the drain.. I rather pay higher and get certainty ... Would be happy to stay with Enrich but they do not fly North America . One thing good about Enrich..confirmed can get as many seats as you want or your points can afford..

1m treat points assuming you have the Maybank Premiere is around 210k miles in Enrich/Krisflyer/Asia Miles

Off the top of my head, a return trip to NYC in first is roughly 220-240k, you'll have to check the respective airline charts for details.

SQ Suites is notoriously hard to get but definitely doable a year out.
CX First is my personal favorite, but their one way will cost more than return.
Etihad/Qatar/Japan/Lufthansa First are all open if you book either oneworld or using star alliance charts of the respective airlines above. I know Etihad availability is decent a year out, not sure about the others as I've never tried them before that far out.

Don't forget YQ fees which can be exorbitant.
*
For CX First, are the redemption points same if we redeem via Asia Miles or OneWorld? I understand that if we book through Asia Miles, we can do it online whereas for OneWorld we have to call in right?

Thanks guys. Yes, I am referring to OneWorld through Enrich. Just wondering comparing this with redemption via Asia Miles for CX first class to US, which one is better value for money? Ie requires less miles

SQ revision of the points chart looks promising..
my planned trip from KUL - SIN - MUC - MXP - SIN - KUL now clocks in at 170k per pax + RM 217 taxes... Previously was about 140+k miles + RM 1800 taxes per person...

At least this is a reasonable offer compared to MH.

*A redemption shows 160,000 on roundtrip, 80k per way... would be interesting to try KUL - SIN - MUC - VIE - TPE - KUL via Singapore Air and Eva Air. Just short of couple K miles to go, will update if anything interesting pops up.
*
May I know how to key in your planned trip? Do you use multi city option then key in Kul - Sin, then Sin - muc, then muc - vie etc? So this trip is like a big loop? No need for any open jaws? Thanks.

Yes. JAL.
But I don't whether OW single carrier allows stopover or not.
JAL (KUL-NRT) stopover then (NRT-LAX).

If allow, then great!
Anyone has experience on this?
*
If not allowed, can always buy separately right for KuL - Nrt?

Per @raist86, you need to search for availability using BA or JL or Qantas.

Redeeming award flights is not as easy like what they say in the marketing brochures.

Either you make your booking at 330 days in advance or 2 weeks before flying for best availability.

For eg. I just booked my CNY 2018 trip about 2 weeks ago for coming back to KUL and I'm now searching for my return flight back (looking at either CX, JL or BR).
*
U mean u booked exactly 330 days in advance and then only for the outbound? For coming back, have to wait for exactly 330 days before flight to book? Is that what u mean?

just call to AM and Enrich to check ...
KUL - LHR - SCL - LHR - KUL

for AM need 175000 miles and for Enrich need 294000 miles ...

both also British Airways ...
*
Is LHR a transit or stopover on both occasions? And, I understand AM is very hard to redeem for those with no elite status? Thought about converting into AM but if points stucked inside cannot redeem also Susah. At least with Enrich... more or less sure to get to redeem LHR or Oz or NRT.

Other than Cathay P, are there any first/biz class to Europe that are good and available from AM?

Helps if it is also easier to book smile.gif
