During Golden Week. Reservation seat only reserve for Japanese. 1 week earlier than any foreigners from oversea.
Your chances are only unreserved seat coach. Get ready standing from Tokyo > Osaka > Tokyo
The best of Using JR Rail Pass on Unreserved Seat Coach was you can keep on trying to boarding into the train.
Example:

08:00 Hikari Class
Too many people in Unreserved seat.
Then you can try bounce into the next
08:20 Hikari Class
too Many People again
Then 8:40
the list keep on going.
Find a coach which you think lesser people which is nearly impossible on Golden Week.......

Just pray to god got people in front of you getting down at Shizuoka Station and Nagoya Station. So you got chances to takeover the seat.
to the worst 2 and half hour standing all the way to Osaka Station.

Time to do some exercise.  flex.gif
My Best Advise for you still...forget about City Hopping. Just Focus at Tokyo Only.
Your Visiting Japan timing are totally most worst. The Middle of Golden week.  Most Chaos Most Expensive time.....

Thank you for the advice. I am also thinking of forgetting about purchasing the unlimited JR pass. I just wanted a return ticket for Tokyo to Osaka. Can I purchase the ticket before my arrival to japan? If yes, how to purchase?

hello everyone! i have a question to ask on train routes using seishun 18 kippu. i am flying in march 2016.

i am planning my itinerary from osaka to fukuoka. i am using hyperdia to plan. for some reason when i tried to search for trains from yamaguchi to fukuoka, it said no results. i tried from hiroshima to fukuoka also didn't yield result.

is this normal? or does that mean i have to find other places to drop by before going to fukuoka?

ur help/advise is highly appreciated.

my current planning is like this:

osaka (after airport) > okayama (one night) > fukuyama (> 3 hours) > hiroshima (3 nights) > yamaguchi (< 5 hours) > fukuoka (2 nights) > kyoto > osaka

Try searching using some cities in Fukuoka like Hakata and you will get some results. Also you have to click on more options and removed those transport the 18kippu is not valid like shinkansen. Also there is a possibility that some night limited express is valid. I did used 18Kippu more than 15 years ago. It was fun but tiring!

My original plan was:

26 to 29 April Tokyo
29 to 30 April - Nagoya
30 April to 1 May - Hiroshima
1 to 3 May - Osaka
3 to 5 May - Tokyo
If that is too difficult and risky, I may change to Plan B:

26 to 30 - Tokyo (Disneyland)
30 April to 3 May - Osaka
3 - 5 May - Tokyo

Whats your thoughts?

Is it possible to purchase Tokyo Osaka return Shinkansen ticket before arriving to Japan? If yes, how?
*
Another alternatives which is more expensive is to book a flight from Tokyo to Osaka. That at least you are guarantee a seat and you can book now

That so called boutilque is just a small section at the seiyun or something dept store. There will be a small history section & those specilized kitkats that u can actually get elsewhere too at much cheaper price.

Goto those pharmacies or even opposite side of the dept store u will see 2 gigantic pharmacies as below photo. Shop there & u might able to get 190 to 200yen kit kat. Shop on the left cheaper..

Attached Image

BTW, those pharmacies are available everywhere in Japan and the above two are the most common & probably largest of all

This boutique was for season limited edition kitkat or Premium fav kit kat. If buy those common fav at this boutique really cut throat price.
If want hunt normal kitkat such as green tea, strawberry , etc common stuff then canfind at Pharmacy or Tokyo Station.

Thanks! So if I want to find the special flavor or something, I can get it from here. If regular, just buy anywhere or the pharmacy.

I find using Google Maps yielding the same results when I was in Japan. I suggest you try using Google Maps as well? It might be GPS issue with Hyperdia when you were using it... *might be*

Is there any good restaurant recommended for Omakase kaiseki meal in Kyoto and Osaka similar to those restaurant in Tsukiji, Tokyo?

Anywhere around Nishiki market since it's considered like a fresh market? Friend recommended Giro Giro Hitoshina but I see it's more like those modern type, prefer the old traditional sushi type like the famous one in Tsukiji

Any advice is much appreciated, especially from bro Regent, Thanks. notworthy.gif

ADDED : Prefer reasonable price one too like in Tsukiji level, not those michelin star price level

Best meal I had in Kyoto -- Kaiseki @ Kichisen. I dunno how it compares to the few hundred other kaiseki restaurants in town, but I chose this one cos supposedly the head chef last time appear on Iron Chef and won icon_idea.gif

Without Budget very hard.
Most of Delicious Kaiseki meal need around 12000 Yen Onward. Most of tips I have was this range.
If want cheaper than 12000 Yen per pax Kaiseki , I dont think I can help But I will try contact my friends at Japan.
Take Time.

First time going to Japan, just need some info on subway ticket
reach Narita Japan on 22nd late evening, coming back 26 early morning - 22 to 24 staying in Tokyo n 25th night at airport hotel.

If I buy combi (3 day pass + round trip train Narita-Tokyo) ticket can I set the metro 3 day pass to start on 23rd till 25th , 22nd only for train to Tokyo ( my hotel near main train station ) or what is the best way to do this ? don't think I will go out on 22nd night.
Thanks

Hi,
I am deciding between staying in Untapped Hostel 1 to 2 mins from Kitajuhachijo Station and Apartment 5 mins from Minamihiragashi Station(cheaper by half the price compared to Untapped Hostel).

Would like to know whether lugging luggage for extra few mins would make a difference in Feb snow as we will be wearing normal sports shoes?

Thanks.

Sport shoes won't works on Snow. If you wear sport shoes get ready for potong kaki. Sure get Frost Bite.
Sapporo snow must wear Boots higher than your leg ankle to prevent snow goes into your toe.

See how deep was the snow. If wear Sport shoes sure ''Potong Kaki''

So, if i get snow boots, both places would be the same in case of lugging luggage? Looks like a hassle if i were to stay 5 mins away...
