Can any sifus here recommend a bike for commuting that isn't too expensive?
Living in KL/PJ region. Is Pedalspot a good place to buy folding bikes? The bikes there seem to be on the pricey side. This post has been edited by NowLat.yet: Oct 11 2016, 09:03 AM |

QUOTE(tcb2010 @ Oct 7 2016, 05:19 PM) If the hummer is a full size bike, I think smaller tern will enable u to navigate better with ur dog on tow, or vice versa...the hummer will probably enable u to venture to a rougher terrain with ur dog... Anyway..I think the hummer ur talking about are those China made ciplak bikes...where as tern is a well known folding bike brand. QUOTE(KenC @ Oct 10 2016, 04:45 AM) I presume you wont go over 20km, Thanks for the input bros. Any 20" foldies will meet your needs. It's perfectly legal to not fold your bike when you don't want to. There are plenty choice between 400~600 for you to accompany your dog . I was tempted by some other fellas with the Verge N8, not sure if i was going to splurge up to 2k for this, but it is tempting to know that a 3k bike discounted down to 2k+. But being new in this biking thing, not sure if this is the right bike. What is the upgrade prospect of this bike, seeing that if i would be buying it would be a huge step up from a Tern link B7 which I was ready to spend. |

QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Oct 11 2016, 02:17 PM) Thanks for the input bros. Hey Mr.Z, wonder if you got your Tern B7 yet? i have mine few week ago, (To be exact is hari raya haji holiday) and i got another new bike from my recent taiwan trip. So i'm thinking to let it go as i have 3 bikes now. I was tempted by some other fellas with the Verge N8, not sure if i was going to splurge up to 2k for this, but it is tempting to know that a 3k bike discounted down to 2k+. I'll sent u a pm and if you are interested we can talk about it. |

QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Oct 11 2016, 02:17 PM) Thanks for the input bros. If it's only a couple hundred rm diff...best go for N8I was tempted by some other fellas with the Verge N8, not sure if i was going to splurge up to 2k for this, but it is tempting to know that a 3k bike discounted down to 2k+. But being new in this biking thing, not sure if this is the right bike. What is the upgrade prospect of this bike, seeing that if i would be buying it would be a huge step up from a Tern link B7 which I was ready to spend. To me personally..the few major pluspoint going for N8.. 1) 8 speed hub....less stuff to change in future if u decide to go 10 speed 2) N8 frame comes with FD mounting point..for future 2spd crank 3) Slightly better components overall.. especially the claris is better than the crappy altus RD in link B7 Lastly, the N8 frame alone would have gotten me, compared to the Link B7. This, presuming ur actually interested in riding often in future..if ur just only doing it say once a week or lesser...just to walk the dog...well...like someone say earlier...a few hundred rm bike will do the job. Wait for the sifus to chip in and listen to their opinions and sound advice... |

QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Oct 11 2016, 02:17 PM) The only real need when buying a bicycle is frame size, others are just wants.Bicycle has been around for over a century, it has came far and long. Bikes had evolve/refined to very diverse needs, race, off-road, city commute, village commute, cargo, recreational, touring and a whole bunch more. Each has their own myriad of sub-categories, eg, race had TT, kirin… You can find your wants and needs only after you start riding… or you let others tell you what you need and pay up… Go get a bike and start pedalling… don't waste your time procrastinating. if money isn't a concern, buy the most expensive bike you can lay your hands on. otherwise buy one which you can give away without breaking a sweat. Choose your dream after 1000km or even better, 3000km which you can do in a year. |

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 12 2016, 08:51 AM) wow.. i didnt know how fast i can go, but to maintain 35kmj for 20minutes its quite hard.. Because of the wheelsize (smaller) , once it gets over 35km/h you need to be very careful as even running over a small twig diagonally, the wheels will skid. The smaller wheels are very unstable. I have done 42 km/h during Fraser's Hill descent and that is the fastest I dared to as the road shoulders are full of leaves and twigs. I doubt if I would ever go over that. My usual comfortable cruising speed is just a mere 18 km/h to 20 km/h but I can ride up to 100 km with that pace. We did that from Kampar to Sitiawan riding in off plantation roads as well.depends on ur stamina, wind, and others..but when down hill i had achieved 65kmj..hahahhah If you are not used to the pace, usually when trying too hard to catch up with the front pack (unless off course you are fit and in the front pack), you will lose steam and will not be able to finish the ride or will slow down others when you lose steam. Once your butt gets painful or get cramps, you will definitely be slower than you keeping a slower pace and not trying to catch up. PS/ If you ride slow and the others don't wait or don't want to regroup, ditch that group. It's not right for you. |

Hi guys, need some advice.
I'm thinking to get an extra bike. Struggling between a Dahon eezz D3 or a Tern Verge N8. Initially was only eezz but the offer on the verge are too tempting. Only thing now i cant test ride a 16" bike. The main usage of this bike will be mixed transport commuting. with lrt or bus so the 3 speed not really a problem for me. Anyone try this eezz before? what's your opinion about this bike? Can push around when it's fold? Cant find any shop that have a ready stock to try. Well, I tried EEZZ, frankly brompton did a better job though.
shorter wheelbase, a bit wobbly compared to 20" counterpart. in a train no much difference in space it occupied, i say go with verge n8 QUOTE(small_fish18 @ Oct 12 2016, 03:38 PM) Hi guys, need some advice. Well i think nothing beat brompton so far for the rear triangle folding mechanism.shorter wheelbase, a bit wobbly compared to 20" counterpart. in a train no much difference in space it occupied, i say go with verge n8 Is it possible to push eezzD3 around after fold it down? and also is the gear range practical? I had decided go for eezz D3, the special folding mechanism and the outlook get me. Plus, limited upgrade option = spend less money in future |

QUOTE(fatani @ Oct 12 2016, 10:28 AM) dude..u got some stamina there 35kmh while tailgating roadbike. so no wind and less energy use.hahaha...35kmh average is quite something. and 65kmh topspeed, even downhill, is quite a bike. i oni managed to get 53kmh for a short downhill.. downhill i try when from pos raya to smpg pulai. extremely no car and my body posture aerodynamic can get this speed. otherwise on that route normally i get 55kmh QUOTE(KenC @ Oct 12 2016, 02:50 PM) hahahaha.. dont say like that ken. i also have met ettigge and he also very humble but a lots of knowledge compare to me..many are so powerfulk out there. me always a nubie and learn new things everyday.. |
