do you just ignore the noise and continue cycling without doing anything?
chain is new and has manufacturer lubing already. whole bike is new actually.
how to adjust / rectify?

When a new chain is purchase or when it comes with a new bike, the chain IS NOT LUBE YET ! Many are mistaken that the slimy and sticky substance on a new chain is lube but that is just a protection against rust. icon_rolleyes.gif

ohmy.gif but the LBS told me that the chain that comes on new bike is already lubricated and that i should not worry about it until after numerous rides.

If there's nothing obvious that is wrong and the gears are smooth when peddling, you are not going to damage anything. If you find that you are in this high gear all the time, then you may want to go for a larger chainring at the front. Another thought is to try another cassette and see if that rumble can still be felt?

i guess to me it looks like nothing wrong. but when cycle then feel like something wrong cos of the noise and can feel the rough teeth everytime..

3.8 kms is not far to walk, although in the hot sun might be different. The steep hills will give you a good workout, no? Lol

Electric bikes are improving but im waiting till they are lighter. The guy who bought my Speed TR converted it to electric for his wife, but the bike ended up being about 25kg! But the ride is so effortless. 9 levels of power and i was only using level 2!

This Xiaomi looks ok and not too heavy, but only a domestic product, parts may be hard to find.
*
I was considering that QiCycle too.

Is there anything you could recommend for commuting? Approximately 10km for 1-way.

Many claims it is pre-lubricated and yet many are also skeptical. Some even degrease the stuff and put on regular chain lube. They are actually chain wax!

I know the frustration ur feeling, as I had almost the same issue like 1 month plus ago...gear meshing sound, which gets more obvious the harder u pedal...some a lot of opinions here too.
Tinkering with adjustment of the RD, lubing the chain, even the chainring...all sorts...until I gave up... suspected the crappy altus derailleur is producing the sound.

Went to LBS, who is kind enuff to troubleshoot, by switching Rd, new chain and pulley. First go...swap to 105 RD, Sram 9 speed chain..and aluminum jockey....
And the damn sound is gone...and better pedalling feel...took all the 3 new stuff together..since it works well and solve my problem.

So, in my case..it ain't the chainring...it's either the RD or the original 8 speed chain...

Ur bike is new...and the tiagra is pretty good stuff...so..I still feel may be ur RD needed adjustment.

Hope u able to solve ur issue..and this bike noise really gets to u sometimes.

Hi..
Today I have done 87km on my speed d8. To my surprise, 8 speed is actually sufficient! Steep hill climb is bearable. And I got 56kmh top speed too.. maybe I should leave this bike stock, and hold the upgrades.

I have one other Foldie at home which is already upgraded to 20 speed and 53/39 crank..and somehow I felt I like this dahon more.

I have the same experience with rojak2 stock groupset. Claris shifter,fd, and altus rd. At last I change the whole groupset and it works like a charm. Deore cassette, shifter, rd but maintain the claris fd.. all must be compatible..ie 10 speeds setup need all 10 speeds compatible components. One companent nit suitable, wont gives good results in tuning..

Is the Xiaomi QiCycle a good electric assist bicycle?

https://www.cnet.com/products/xiaomi-mi-qicycle/preview/

I need it to travel to a gym 3.8km away, currently cycling a normal bicycle but the steep hills are killing me, especially after a squatting session.
*
3 options sprung instantly, since you are looking for a solution to mitigate that life threatening hill climbing and save the energy for paddling that stationary cycling machine in the comfortable an air-conditioned gym…
1, drive there, car or motorbike.,
2, stop going to the gym,
3, drop to the lightest gear and spin like a hamster.,
great cardio workout…

ah more solutions came along as I ride
4, jog/walk there. 3.5km is only 30minutes away unless you wish to do that on a stationary thread mill in that comfortable air conditioned gym,
5, swap out your chainring to a much smaller one and spin like a hamster.
again, great cardio workout.

Qi looks good for going to the wet market.

great to know someone feels the same. I though I am the odd one…
I did my 120km KL- Port Klang loop on my 8 speed 451 BSO (bicycle shaped object). Double chainring is a necessity for hilly terrain such as GAP-Fraser Hill top.
Even Chilling-GAP can single chainring.
but with double chainring, one can do high cadence cardiovascular workout on any terrain including on the flat.
From the 120k ride I confirm what sifu Azam taught me, Lighter gearing + higher cadence can reduce muscle fatigue. The legs can keep on going if they don't burn-up (give us that burning sensation when working too hard for too long.) shift to the next lighter gear and increase the cadence when muscle starts to give that burning sensation.

Got my bike today! Nice size and nice folding mechanism (need some practice tho)

Went out for a roll and dinner and realize that I really miss the kick stand on my old Tern.

I know eezz is not so popular but if any user here wanna share how do u keep them standing when u are out? Fold it up? Doesn't seem like able to install a kick stand sad.gif

What is GAP?

I agree..probably on constant uphill, double chainring is a must, unless, I have steel legs..hehe..

So I guess, for longer distance normal road biking, I'd probably use the chromoly 406 stock dahon.much much more comfortable.but for faster biking or constant uphill, I'd probably choose my other foldies, which is a much lighter bike, better wheelset and of course, wider range of gear to choose..

I just realized that it is still possible to climb Fraser Hill with a smaller single chainring… buy hey, too late to undo the double chainring…
I won't keep a bike for every occasion, would prefer to swap chainring and/or cassette… and play with tire pressure… unless different wheel size is required… Maybe I like to play with tools more than others…
actually, don't even have to change chainring or cassatte, all it takes is upgrade my legs and lung…

jackpot!! laugh.gif

actually the other bike is bought for waifu.. i was using it as an experiment for upgrading, but after testing out the 8 speed dahon, I think i have done the unnecessary. but, as you say, too late to undone the 10s double chainring. laugh.gif .. so just use it as it is..at least, easier for waifu to pedal.. sweat.gif

Better check if your Tern has a RD hanger blink.gif I have modded a few of them and as I recalled those days when they use Neo Rd, the bike don't have RD hangers. You need to buy the RD hanger adapters and I don't know if they still produce these hangers as Terns have also stopped using Neos already. All the newer generation Tern bikes comes with hangers already.

The blardy kit cost SGD70 and the local importer didn't bring in last time and I am not sure if they bring in already rclxub.gif There is a cheaper alternative but it breaks easily when your bike falls down and when the RD hits the ground, the first thing to break is the adapter hanger! The original kit is off course more hardy.
