I tried applying jobs from jobstreet for the past 6 months. I sent so many out until jobstreet gave me a warning. There are no replies from any of them. I start to wonder if its because I am not a PR? or something wrong with my resume.

How many jobs did you applied actually? Never know JobStreet cap a limit to someone's application hmm.gif

Perhaps you might want to consider updating your linkedin as well. A lot of employers/headhunters lurk there.

Did already.

Did you try applying to your direct competitors?
Other small audit firms
That should be the easiest

Is there a minimum wait period (official or unofficial) to apply for a PR? I believe that the stamp duty for property purchases is 5% for PRs as opposed to 15% for foreigners.

Beggars can't be choosers, as the saying goes.
Are you a qualified accountant ie SG CA? If so, you probably have a better chance of securing a job.

That is the problem I never think off when my boss transferred the money to me.

My boss went back overseas and put me in charge of all payment settlement as I am his accounting staff. So he just use his internet banking and transferred the money into my account. So while he is in overseas, I have to make all the payment on behalf including worker wages from my savings account.

As he is in overseas for a long time, he would not be able to sign any cheque and pass it to me. Hence the burden fall to me as he prefer to be in overseas.

I did tabulate the spreadsheet to monitor the movement of the cash flow in case there is any doubts as money is a pretty sensitive thing.

But sigh.....I doubt the bank will agree to give me a chance to explain. And I am not sure whether I am going to be blacklisted.

Thanks anyway.

Yes, it does appear that you were flagged as a possible money launderer.
There's some good news though - not likely that you're on any widely available sanction list, most likely just in that particular bank's only.

If the bank filed an STR (suspicious transaction report) to MAS, you might (very remote though i believe) that MAS might come and ask you to minum kopi. But don't sweat it lah. I think.

SG has a thriving financial industry, so they memang a tad anal when it comes to these sort of thing - they gotta show that they are serious about regulations yada yada, competitive advantage mah. Scared HK will overtake them.

Hi guys,

This is my story so far. For the purpose of keeping my confidentiality, I created an account to voice out and seek for advise and opinions on what should I do.

I am 27 years old this year. I have a bachelors degree in accounting and finance from an australian university.

I have roughly 4 years of working experience. About 1 year in Malaysia and 3 years in Singapore (currently).

I am holding an employment pass and I am looking to apply for PR for the 2nd time.

I worked in a small audit firm in Malaysia for about 1 year and now currently working in an audit firm which has about 40 staffs for 3 years as of today. It is my first job in Singapore.

Now the issue is applying for a PR in Singapore under my current company. My boss put a clause in my contract stating that if I apply PR under this company, upon approval, I would have to serve the company for 3 years. I am in a rush to apply PR because I want to start a family with my wife to be and quickly buy a HDB to settle down. The new PRs are said to need to wait for 3 years before buying a HDB.

Problem is I think I am not too happy working under my boss which I think is very calculative and kiamsiap(stingy).

I am earning 2.7k per month now. I am 27 years old. The yearly increment is only 100 dollars. Normal bonus one month only. I feel like I am going nowhere with this.
Furthermore, my company has no benefits at all. I only have 10 days of annual leave per year.
Work is very stressful. Boss doesnt appreciates even old staffs. Colleagues are nice and friendly?

I tried applying jobs from jobstreet for the past 6 months. I sent so many out until jobstreet gave me a warning. There are no replies from any of them. I start to wonder if its because I am not a PR? or something wrong with my resume.

I want to know if I am underpaid for my field. I feel very low compared to my other friends as they got promoted in their jobs, get big fat bonuses, so many annual leaves.

Should I apply PR in this company and serve the 3 years? or should I postpone my plans and find another job and apply in other company? I am already 27 and I feel like I am going nowhere. No house, low pay, and etc.

What should i do?

If you're in a mid-tier or big 4 audit firm, you would have gotten the exam leave. On pay issues, small audit firms are not generally known to pay as well as the big 4. Even in the big 4, the salary increase is mostly from promotion and not increment.

If you go to commercial firms, you will encounter the same issue with low increments every year. This is why most accounting grads choose to go into audit at a big 4, climb the ranks fast, then get out at manager level to go into commercial.

If you're that desperate to get out of your current job, try to get into the big 4 to get the name on your resume, then leave after a year or two. The pay should be comparable or higher than what you're getting now, and with the brand name it would be easier to get a job.

If you are young, fresh from college plus 1 year work, generally company still consider fresh. Have to train up a lot

But if you are early thirties with only 1 year relevant experience, then chances to land a job is higher. These are matured workers, with good problem solving, self-reliant

Apply for your PR. At the moment based on what I heard, it takes more than 6 months to approve. While waiting for the status, find yourself a new job. Then notify them on the change in job.

Being on low pay with a small company is not going to help your application. If not wrong, the size of your firm and your salary are one of the factors that can affect whether your pr is approved.

Is your fiancee a pr already? If you're planning to apply first (instead of applying together) then get her a spouse pr, it may take a few years more as I heard ICA may reject applications from newly married spouse.
*

or do it the other way round...fiancee apply and he become the spouse in 1 single application like my case.
the company back then was 1 year bond after PR approval and employer cpf comes from me also.

Employer CPF must be borne by employer. Any contractual terms covering this that says employer contribution is deducted from employees salary is automatically null and void. There's a clause in CPF act that cover this. I fought with my company HR when I got my PR, and they finally relented after I got them to join a conference call with CPF board.

The form is just to say you working there and should not be used as a leverage for the company to negotiate any terms with you by signing the form. I think you can submit without the form too if your boss don't want to sign. You pay tax? Your company registered with ACRA? Your employment and company info already inside SG database. ICA only need to click then can access.

Your boss CA? Threaten to complain to ISCA, so unprofessional, and police too. SG want better people come in and this kind of people is hampering gahmen's effort to attract talent.
