I'm able to get XF 27mm @ AUD$150 which is equivalent to RM450 after the cash rebate.

Anybody here have experience in using XF 27mm? Is it worth getting at this price since it is dirt cheap? tongue.gif

Just got back from vacation. Awful trip.. caught in a typhoon, horrid weather in the first few days, all my photo plans gone and when the weather became better. I was caught a bad flu and was in no mood to shoot stuffs except for family snaps.

I did however gotten to know the 12mm samyang more so posting here to share some thoughts

First of all, "autofocus" is lightning fast. Just stick it at the vertical line marking before infinity for shooting sceneries etc even at f2. Zone focussing is never simpler.

Walking around with kids full body shots... 1m@f8. Low light then have to adjust just a tiny bit. Magnified view pressing the thumbwheel helps

Most importantly.. blind selfies with the kids had never been so easy. Put the focus ring on 1/3 of the way after 0.5m to 1m and its perfect arms length focus even at f2.

Focussing aside, its sharp but not as sharp as fuji's own lenses and not so contrasty.

Below are all 12mm samyang out of camera jpegs except for some straightening.

Great compact lens for travelling light.
27mm is adequate for a wide range of shooting too.
AF is fast.

How about food photography? It seems like it has long MFD compared to other lenses. If I am getting it I would be using it whenever I'm hanging out with friend at cafe. That's one of the reason why I go for this compact lens. tongue.gif

MFD ~30cm. Can't comment much if it's any good for food photography. Not a foodie myself.

guys i will be making my decision in purshasing either one of these two cameras (X100S vs X-E2) in the next week. which would you guys recommend? I understand that X-E2 will be more versatile but the X100S is just so charming. Both are comparable in price (X-E2 with kit lens 18-55mm). Would the X100S with its fixed lens make a good everyday camera (mostly travelling and food photography)? Will the XE-2 perform like an X100S with an added prime lens? i'm still an amateur to photography btw.

If its gonna be your only system camera... X-E2

If its gonna be your "mojo" camera when you already have a dslr with a bunch of lenses sitting in the dry cabinet... then X100S

Hopefully non Australian residents with their bank card like me are entitled for the rebate. tongue.gif

would the x-e1 be a big downgrade from x-e2? considering that also due to the better offers.

Phase detection, Wifi, another stop of exposure compensation.

It depends on how much these are worth to you. Not sure if later firmware improved the EVF refresh rates though

My only "complain" is that I wish it were f2.0 instead. The MFD don't bother me.

UV filter

but what i receive is "clear filter", which mean protection filter.

Haha, actually i like protection filter more than UV filter.
I own 4 pcs marumi super dhg and 3 pcs marumi exus which all is protection filter.
When i search B+W filter, result always show me UV filter, this is first time i saw an clear protection filter.

meanwhile seems B+W clear protection filter shoud be cheaper than UV filter .
but nevermind lor , happy.

Recently bought two third party batteries to an actual job, worse fear, the the two batteries went dried sooner than I've thought.

The original last more shots than I anticipated, hell it even last until the job finish. doh.gif

How about KLDSLR? They have plenty of used lenses but unfortunately they have limited choice for Fuji.

You can visit their website and have a look.

What do you guys think bout the 35mm f2?

Would you lose 1 stop of light for faster AF and weather sealing?

Try checking with online seller like Mr.Oss: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showuser=206177 I bought my X-T1 and some lenses from him. Competitive price and original Fujifilm Malaysia set.

If you ask me right, I prefer wider lens and I will take 10-24mm. biggrin.gif

I went to Japan early this year and I survived the whole trip with just 18mm. So many things to capture. drool.gif

Don't forget 10-24mm can also cover 18mm. biggrin.gif

@velma indeed it is. This lense is quite unique since it is consider a wide angle, but retaining the F1.4. Believe it or not, it is pretty handy to shoot "flying" baby/kids portrait while maintaining the background isolatin tongue.gif.

But the downside is the weight and size if u compare to others primes.

11 days, be prepared better ...if not you make lose the shot that you wanted. Japan is my dream trip, i prepare it properly, bag i got from Gavin, I also ask Fuji Malaysia to rent me the 18-135mm....need something to cover some long range, slightly underused But thankfully it help on my trip...

FYI anyone going Fushima Inari, go in morning but if you wanted climb the mountain, just bring a flash to shoot portrait because it kinda tend to be darker when you middle of the mountain. I took 1 hour to climb to the middle of the whole mountain....you may need 2-3 hours to finish everything

Wanted to get x100T initially but too expensive and end up with x100s instead.

To me, X100T has better lcd and evf res, many customizable buttons (huge plus!), no more rotation wheel (I hate wheel, too easy rotate accidentally), auto focus just little better, image quality seems the same, and another big plus, Wifi!

I already got the 1.4. That's the problem.

Faster AF
Sharper corners

vs

1 stop faster
optically corrected
no need to spend more $$

Another thought is to wait for Xpro2. If the f2 is part of the kit, then it should fall dramatically in price.

Hi guys,

I will like to ask how's the video performance of fujifilm camera these days? I have heard negative feedback on fuji's video previously... but wasn't sure if many issues have been fixed with any firmware updates.

Over the past 2 years owning the x100s, I have never bother with its video...as I came to believe this camera put video as an afterthought.. I am curious to know how does the higher-end model such as the XT-1 performs in video.

Before x100s, I am Sony nex-7 user. Used with a few prime lens, I am able to get video for my trip which I think is good enough. Even after 3-4 years, I am still missing the ability to shoot video at such cinematic quality.

My concern is that, after using x100s, I am a pure fan for Fujifilm, in terms of photography, the experience, the control, the firmware supports and the image quality... I knew for still image photography I will be choosing fujifilm for my next upgrade...it could be the XT-1 or XT-10.

But at the same time, I missed shooting video. And my gf still loves the video I made for our trip to korea 4 years ago. I can only choose one... which is really hard decision.

I really wish if fujifilm camera is equally capable in shooting good video (consumer use...not professional), in terms of codec etc, I really don't bother much as long as it can shoot 1080p at 60fps. The only downside I am aware now is when shooting video with fujifilm is that, all their prime lens do not have stabiliser.... so I won't be able to shoot, say 50mm close up..while having the footage stabilzed nicely. With Sony their affordable 50mm are stabilized really well.

Please advice if there is anyone here actually use their camera to shoot video casually... or for creative work. Thanks.

aye, I too occasionally use Fujifilm to record some short vids but it really is lacking a lot like what you have said. Shooting video is never in Fujifilm's book as far as I know, but they do improve it bits by bits.

That said, here's what you can do. Invest in Sony, replace your fujifilm with the A7 and forget about the Fujifilm's wonderful stills or you could buy a cheap RX100 as a sidekick to fill up the inpurities of the Fujifilm. laugh.gif

Better yet, use an iPhone to record videos.

Agreed. Like me last trip mostly using phone record, even use X-T1 make some record too. If just simple work, Fuji actually okay what tongue.gif

From my last post and some surveys, I think Mr Oss gives the best/competitive pricing here when it comes to Fuji gears. No dispute. I shall arrange a meeting with him soon. Hopefully before Christmas.

I'd like to get some feedbacks from members of the forum here on the X-T1. The question/dilemma here is whether should I get it with:

a) 18-55mm kit lens; or
b) body + 35mm F2 WR; or
c) body + 35mm F1.4; or
d) 18-55mm and 35mm [but this might not happen. too much money d]

This would be my first Fuji gear. My current set is my Canon 5D Mark III with 50mm F.14 & 24-104mm F.4L.

Any input/thoughts are much appreciated. Really looking forward to use the Fuji system.

Which focal length do you use it more often? 50mm or 24-104?

If you're used to 50mm then you should go for 35mm or else kit lens will be a good choice.

If you're used to 50mm then you should go for 35mm or else kit lens will be a good choice.
*
that's a good one. it used to be the 24-104mm then i switched to 50mm for its 'compactness'. the 24-104mm is pretty huge and intimidating. still produce good quality pictures but not ideal for travelling tho. any of the members here using the 35mm F2 WR? I've read reviews but there are pros n cons.

F2 - newer, faster auto focus, cheaper(i think) , weather resistant, lighter
F1.4 - bokeh, comes with metal hood, second hand easy to find,

Granted I'm not familiar with pricing in Malaysia but I would recommend a used x-e1 or x-e2 instead for the whole Fuji experience. That's unless the selfie screen on the x-a2 is important to u.

1. Using a flashgun in Bracketing/Continuous shooting

Optional flashguns can now be used for bracketing and burst photography. When using the EF-X8, which is bundled with the X-T1, the flash fires in ISO, FILM SIMULATION and WHITE BALANCE BKT modes.

2. Instant AF Setting in manual focus

Focus and exposure can now be locked when the AF-L button is used in manual focus mode. You can shoot after locking AF and AE with your thumb.

3. AF+MF operation with AF-L button

The AF-L button can be used to lock focus in AF+MF mode and you can adjust the focus more accurately using the lens’s focusing ring.

4. Focus zoom in AF+MF

The FOCUS ASSIST button can be used for focus zoom and you can fine tune focusing using the lens’s focusing ring with focus zoom activated.

5. Additional Custom Display options

Functions have been added to the DISP. CUSTOM SETTING option in the setup menu. Choose the information you want, then concentrate on shooting.
(Additional items)
Focus frame/Shooting mode/ Information background/Focus mode/Shutter type/Continuous mode/Dual IS mode/Movie mode /Blur warning

6. The Fn7 Button

Warning: Notice from Fuji to XT1 owners. There is a malfunction in the 4.2 firmware that can cause a freeze in AF-C mode, please update to 4.21. Fix coming in January.

announcement from FUJI.

We have found a malfunction in the firmware ver.4.20 launched on December 17 2015, which rarely causes freeze when shooting in AF-C mode. So we will suspend the disclosure of this firmware right away.
We apologize for your inconvenience which this may cause.
We will post an upgraded firmware around the end of January 2016 to solve it.
As a tentative solution for customers who have upgraded their cameras to firmware ver.4.20, we have prepared the new firmware version of 4.21 whose functions are same as the previous version of 4.10. Please update your cameras to ver.4.21 to avoid the malfunction.

Thanks! No filter. Just a little tweak on lightroom (noise reduction, desaturate -10, and add fade a bit.)

Stim!! drool.gif no money cry.gif .

There seems to be a button on the lever thingy. Wonder what is does hmm.gif .

My experience on my old pro1 is that ex-comp dial too easy to move. Rub against my belly, +2 oledi. Lenglui pics all turn out so white fair skin. Perhaps they stiffen the ring, though better if they have a button lock like the shutter. Also the ex-comp dial is bigger goes to +- 3 sum more. Other than that, I shoot everything on auto doh.gif , except for AF for which I assign to AF-L button. Also I use film simulation mode. Damn I cheat so much, pro camera wasted on me. shakehead.gif doh.gif

hello sifus,

am owning a Fujifilm X100s.

Wish to seek for advice on how to utilize this beast better.

I carry it during travel or short trip for street, portrait and landscape shooting. However, I always face issue where the focus was not on the subject, causing the background to be sharp and the subject is blurred.

How to overcome this despite I have locked the shutter and the green box appeared confirming focus.

Happy New Year and many thanks for your reply!

I guess you know the focus and framing do shift a bit when pressing the shutter button, especially you are using the OVF. However the green box should give you sharp focus. I am using the first gen X100 and focusing speed is not what you want to live with, but i still get very high hit rate. Here are the thing i do

1. Set the AF point to the largest and use on the middle AF point, focus and recompose.
2. Step down aperture to f4 or 5.6, f2 is soft, no bokeh to me so dont bother shooting wide open
3. use EVF, should get a fairly high hit rate since it does not have the focus frame shifting issue here. You get same amount of shots using either OVF/EVF, experience that done that and found that using rear screen can get you more shots... doh.gif

Hi there,

I think my mistakes were not to set the AF point (the box) to the largest size and always do at f2.

I will try to follow your advice in the next round.

Thanks!!

I must admit, me too always get back focusing...especially when the subject is quite a distance from the camera ( like full bodyshot) this camera will 90% backfocusing if I let random stranger to take photo of me during travelling. I really wish fujifilm provide firmware update to include face detection like the x100T...

By the way next week I'm traveling to Bangkok.. And I wish to try out an add on adapter for my x100s. But I can't decide should I go with the wcl or the tcl.. I do have a gopro with me... So I can take Ultra wide - selfie... But I didn't hear much bout the tcl ... If the focal Length really make much different than d original 35mm.. Anyone has experience with either the tcl or wcl , and can give some advice?

good morning guys. im not sure if this has been discussed previously but i believe the fuji camera app is not compatible with iOS9 rite? i tried with my iOS8 device and it works fine but my iOS9.2 device says 'cant connect'. i've searched on the net but fuji has not released any updates on this matter.

is there any other way for us to connect the x-t1 via wifi if the camera app is not compatible/usable?

Yup, like the selfie flip LCD, very useful nowadays to take family wefie! smile.gif
It claimed the AF is very fast, this might be the selling point over GR as GR is AF is pain especially lowlight

And Fujifilm camera is slightly cheaper in Australia compared to Malaysia.
For eg: XT1 body is selling at AUD1110 which is equivalent to RM3400.

X70 looks good with the adjustable screen and it's cheaper the x100 series. Good for those looking for a cheaper alternative without the EVF/OVF.

Guys, do you have any recommendations for straps for the X100T? I find the current included one pretty uncomfortable after long usage.

Slide is too much of a wide boy for X100T.

Peak's easy adjustable length is very useful when u wanna slide it around ur shoulders for those long photowalk or when u don't want ur dangling camera to hit things when u bend down.

Also the material is same as those used in car safety belt so its comfy and doesn't chaff the skin.

Its retro design. Besides, applying the leatherette to the bottom will make it more prone to damage.

Its retro design. Besides, applying the leatherette to the bottom will make it more prone to damage.

I don't mean the bottom plate but around the lens like XE 2.

GR 2 is very new plus its a niche camera. Those that buys them usually hang on to them.

Confirm in reallife use, putting x70 into jeans pocket is impossible.
Cargo pants maybe no problem.

Like my RX3, so difficult to put and take out from my jeans pocket.

From Dpreview's interview with Fujifilm

QUOTE

Where are the remaining gaps in the X-series lens lineup?

TT: Customers are requesting more compact lenses. Our 35mm F2 is one example. So we may need to supplement this lens [with others of this kind].

TI: And also photographers are challenging us to make more telephoto primes. And astrophotographers want fisheyes, and also [we have requests] for tilting lenses. So although the volume [of those products] might not be as big, photographers are asking us.

Fuji didn't make a hood for the 27mm.

That's a generic 39mm thread metal hood I got from a sale.

Which rebate gives RM 350?
Anyway, I got mine before last year's GST, for around RM 1k, Malaysia set.
With our fluctuating currency, this one looks not too bad.
