Same here. I think that's the fastest way in term of focus accuracy. 

if u shoot portrait, turn on face detection, then no need recompose, 90% accurate

slight moving subject, u turn on the group auto focus

anyway, let me try your technique, but continuous focus does work fine for me so far, will post some shots later
