It's a sad news, that MMKB T-Shirt is not even hit the MOQ for just 30 units.
The groupbuy last order is until this month end.

If the groupbuy is fail at the end of the month(not hit MOQ), I will refund back the money to those who paid me for ordering.
Of course, I never hope for the bad, since this club was established at least 5 years. If really the reality no supports, then I will join the other renowned sifu in the underwater.

And thanks for those support MMKB T-Shirt groupbuy.

I will be away from 18-21Aug, but I will still reply the pm to me.

Where is your inner part picture of your case? Controller should be inside the case right,,, not outside of the case doh.gif

Show inner part then we can only check for the compatibility

If u r 1st timer using Mech KB than u can't different them yet.

If u already old user for some time than u will need some time to get used even it is black vs black or brown vs brown.

I saw a Chinese article who open all the switch and compare them.

The different r build quality
(Cherry switch part mostly r tidy and fit, the china one some how a bit lose on internal stem part. Some user complaint their keycap a bit shakcy)

Spring length. So far non of china switch follow cherry design all of them had their own length and type

Internal part.
Mostly outlook r identical but internal r a bit different than cherry, there cut few part to make design simpler. Some PPL OK some not.

So far this is what I understand fr9m the article

Why not go straight for the K70 RGB for RM645 red switch. I am not a pro in MKB but is using the Corsair K70 RGB and Blackwidow Ultimate Chroma before it.
The Blackwidow Ultimate is similar to Cherry MX Blue, very nice for typing but gaming wise a bit less responsive like what you have said need to press hard or double press.
The cherry Mx red on the K70 is responsive and good for playing FPS, but the feel is different from Blue. Corsair build quality is top notch .
Software wise some say it sucks but as long as you can download a few pre designed templates to play with from their RGB keyboard forums I would not worry about it too much.
Overall very enjoyable the experience.

But, Costar Stabilizer gives the BEST FEELING.
Although, I like Cherry Stabilizer more(easy to change keycap), but, feeling wise, I think Costar wins.

if budget is your concern then go for it or a 2nd hand from garage sales. i bought the ducky 2087 as my first mkb then another impulse buying for poker ii afterwards. so just buy whatever suits your budget. else if branding and quality is more to your preference, then save up abit more for filco wink.gif

i wouldn't recommend hot water for ABS keycaps.
luke warm or slightly warm is alright.
my method would be putting all the keycaps into a basin and fill it up with tap water, just enough to cover all the surface of the keycaps.
then i pop in 1 or 2 tablets of dental tabs or polident.
leave it soak for about half an hour, rinse, dry and place back onto keyboard.

standard keycap puller i find can break quite fast from frequent usage.

filco keypuller seems more reliable even after heavy use.

this is why is better to get a metal backplate (preferably aluminium , rather than printed pcb direct to the switches) because makes cleanup easier.

normally i'd use like a earbud tip, slightly wet cloth, or a micro size flat head screw driver and some cleaning solution to clean out my mkb tongue.gif

keycaps i'll dump into a bucket of water with cleaning solution.

i'd try to be very careful as not to get the pcb wet when cleaning the metal backplate part of the mkb, but just in case i leave the mkb to dry out before i even dare plug it in

don't do it too often cause, removing the caps too much makes them loose i would reckon hmm.gif

for a standard mkb that uses silk-screened keycaps, the printing can wear off with use. i use instead dye sublimated and double shots, so i don't have this problem. secondary issue is the plastic itself, from constant usage when finger tips brush against the key, it can over time create a shiny oily look especially the spacebar.

my ducky pbt spacebar does not have this issue even after years of usage :}

last time i used the chemical in the cleaning utility for computer to clean each of my keycaps when i first bought a secondhand corsair k70.
It seems fine, but will it damage the keycaps??
So now i bought a PBT keycaps and installed on my k70. i wonder can i clean with the chemical?
or i should just follow ur method to throw all the keycaps into a bucket and wash with water?
Drying up the keycaps sure will use up a lot of time tongue.gif
aiks, if removing the keycaps and clean will loosen up the keycaps, what should we do to clean? buy compressed air and blow it regularly?
And btw, what is a metal backplate? means a metal plate placed under the keycaps? so when u want to clean, just bring out the metal backplate and wash?

Yes, ABS is pretty weak.
I blew hot air to ABS keycaps(for adjusting bent keycaps), they melt easily and you can throw your keycaps into dustbin right away.
I blew hot air to PBT keycaps, no problem.

the backplate is this metalic partition to separate the switch stubs from the actual pcb on the otherside.

this makes cleaning up dust or other gunk from the backplate, rather than the pcb (which is not good to mess with directly for the obvious reasons laugh.gif )

spilt drinks is another story rolleyes.gif

pcb mounted looks something like this

Double Shot, Dye-Sublimated, Laser-Latched, etc are PRINTING TECHNIQUES of making the "FONT" on the keycaps. NOT THE MATERIALS used to make the keycaps. (You can imagine this as painting style, like cute style, realistic style, abstract, etc)

PBT, ABS, POM, Zinc, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, etc are MATERIALS used for the keycaps. (You can imagine these are choices of painting medium choices, like color pencils, oil paint, water color, acrylic paint, etc)

So, DO NOT MIX them up.

Not all ABS keycaps are slippery. But, most of them are(which commonly found).
ABS keycaps can be NON-SLIPPERY too if it's SANDBLASTED by default and using very good quality ABS materials.
Usually, ABS Keycaps surface will get oily or shiny after sometime. But, if they're sandblasted, they'll last longer than non-sandblasted.

PBT keycaps are mainly chalky by nature and more durable.

Which means, you can have Double Shot PBT Keycaps and also Double Shot ABS Keycaps on the market. Because, Double Shot is a PRINTING TECHNIQUE, NOT materials.

Double Shots Injection Techniques are available for both PBT and ABS, yes.
Usually, double shots keycaps(for both ABS and PBT) are sandblasted by default.

Non-sandblasted ABS keycaps(LED backlite), they'll get shinny and oily very easily,

Sandblasted Double Shot ABS keycaps(LED backlite), won't get oily and shiny very fast and the fonts on it can last forever due to double shot injections,

the backplate is this metalic partition to separate the switch stubs from the actual pcb on the otherside.

this makes cleaning up dust or other gunk from the backplate, rather than the pcb (which is not good to mess with directly for the obvious reasons  laugh.gif  )

spilt drinks is another story  rolleyes.gif
pcb mounted looks something like this

harder to clean....
i'll try this next time  smile.gif

i see i see, can we install the metal backplate into filco keyboards? but when u do the cleaning job, u will have to remove all the switches to clean the metal plate? doesnt it seems more complicated? blink.gif blink.gif

Filco is plate mounted by default, in other words, there's already metal plate.

As for cleaning, removing the keycaps (all preferably, if you not confident with large modifier keys like Enter, spacebar and so on, leave them untouched). Turn the keyboard upside down on your lap then start shaking/slapping it. Then use tiny brush or air blower to blow off the remaining dusts/dandruff/pieces of food. That should be clean enough but if you are despo, get a cloth and alchohol then start wiping them before reinstall everything.

nah just removing keycaps is enough. then just clean the backplate while it's still attached to the switches.

i'm not confident enough i could fully dissasemble/reassemble sweat.gif

Yeah, dont need remove backplate for no reason.

And FYI, backplate cant be removed without desolder every single switches of the keyboard first, it is only mean to be removed when you are doing a total overhaul.

erm, i really don't recommend u to wash your backplate without desoldering the switches and separating the pcb.
unless there's oil or food or "sticky substance" stuck to your plate, then you should consider doing cleaning to your backplate.
one way you can do this is by using Q-tip cotton swabs dipped with cleaning solution (not too much) and gently rub it on the area you wish to clean.
it might be tedious, but it's less tedious compared to desoldering all the switches.

if it's just dust and hair, using brush to brush them off is good enough.

hi guys, would like to ask is there a high failure rate for LED on mkb? Will the LEDs eventually be dead after a few years or can some last for a very long time? Newbie here would like to try using mkb

LED lifespans are mostly random.
There's always risk of LED dying on LED Keyboards, this you can't avoid.

Need some comments from sifu-sifu with first-hand experience.

After using the Blackwidow for a while, I cannot bear the mushy laptop keyboard anymore. I need MKB at work!

I'm looking for TKL sizes, which I can lug around with my laptop bag as I travel alot in my line of work. I noticed that Blackwidow keys are abit different from standard ones like FILCO, but I can live with getting myself used to Blackwidow keys.

Is BW tournament recommendable for my case? I've read so many great reviews on the MINILA (looks great too), so looking for advice from sifu sifu sekalian if I'm better off sticking to BW keyboards or consider other brands/makes.

office use everyday carry around? i am using poker2. super fine. 60% is better than TKL for me. arrows and controlpad is easy to use on it. numpad i just bought cheap separate numpad and leave it at office. try to minimize ur weight (i just use stock casing). i thought of minila air before but office desktop no blutoot and it use battery - meh. so poker, i just get usb extension and put the port on table. every morning just plug my poker and done. blue switch. clickity click my colleague all annoyed cuz of noise but now seems like a few of them chg to mkb also n shy2 to tell me. laugh.gif

oh btw, if u really travel a lot in your line of work ^ get wireless. dun mind bout the brand. as long it carries cherry or better switches. its good already. other than that, its the functions u need to consider next.

*
Not sure if BW TE have detachable cable, but I will definitely prefer a keyboard to have it if I am to use it on mobile.

And yeah, if you can get a wireless/Bluetooth KB then it will be even better.

Razer using custom Kailh switches,
http://www.razerzone.com/ap-en/razer-mechanical-switches

Either green or orange this way, green akind to MX Blue, orange akind to MX Brown.

Also, Razer do sell non-mechanical kb too, so they don't use any switches just FYI.

Yeah, I read about Razer switches before I bought the BW. Bought it on impulse after some poisoning by viewnet's salesman and fiddling around a few of the keyboard there.
The comments earlier on about "bad track record" scared me abit. So the track record problem is about Kailh switches or just about Tournament keyboards?

blue switch is doing a great job for me. But I'm not sure what's the differences between MJ 2 and the other keyboard. I tried brown and i think i will skip it. Mainly for programming.

What's the different between lighter and heavier keycaps?

Keycaps's weight matter little, except you compare between metal to plastic.

It's more on the texture when you touch and the bottom-up/rebounce noise, whichever you like more suit you better. PBT is the sweet spot for most ppl.

I'm tuning the switches. Lube, sticker, swapping springs.

The keyboard was built by a korean few years back, things get old and not as good, so I disassemble it and tune it again.

Maybe seller give you big box and put some stones in there.
Some sellers do put stones because shipping heavier stuff will get cheaper shipping.
Only happened in taobao tho.
Or your agent charge you extra.

For your info, for a E Element RGB keyboard weight only 1.13kg.
If including packaging in box in box brows.gif will weight ~1.8kg

For volumetric wise of box in box:
49cm x 28cm x 9cm / 6000
= 12348/6000 = 2.058 kg

Old fags like me will recommend you Poker 2. Non-LED.
If you use in Mac OS, install Karabiner V10.8.0 (previously known as Keyremap4macbook) for you to remap certain keys.
To remap Ctrl, Win (Cmd), Alt (Option) to Ctrl, Alt (Option), Win (Cmd).

You can come back to me if anything to ask about the remapping.

And, IMO, DAS Keyboard 4(Both Full and TKL Layout) are better than DAS Keyboard Model S...
Simply, DAS Keyboard Model S is using cheaply look glossy plastic.
DAS Keyboard 4 and 4C are using Aluminium top housings. smile.gif

Thought of Czone too. When did you buy your KB?

Just wondering if they have sample KBs to test before you buy?

I'm planning on getting a Noppoo EC108 Pro for my dad. Which Chinese store on Taobao has the best ratings to get one? There's one which says "Noppoo flagship store", but I'm not sure if they're the real deal or not.

Link here.

Can someone clarify this for me?

If u like 65% layout, there's still other option available and cheaper despite of alu case.

1. Redscarf II+ Ver.C (RS68) kit = 680rmb
*No macro keys support, media keys support unsure.
http://world.taobao.com/item/521123137875....0.pCYfhA#detail
Can't remember if the gb closed order or not.

2. Finger L3 by leeku = 40~45usd.
*Under geekhack groupbuy section, closing soon.

dude that is a scissor switch membrane laptop keyboard.
you check and see if the 2 white pieces have any broken part or not.
if it's not broken, you can try to put it back together.
or you can simply ask for warranty replacement if it's under warranty.

or you can buy a mechanical keyboard and use it instead of the built-in laptop keyboard brows.gif icon_idea.gif

Get a HHKB.
It's a very lightweight mechanical keyboard, weight less than 550g.
Small in size, widely use for professional, travel, attending events etc.
Well good to have.

Hey guys wanna ask regarding some problem

I just found out that my keyboard is sending some kind of "signal" that prompt my PC to go into ctrl+P to enter to MEX setting or something, and the computer just stuck at the bios. Unplugging the keyboard solves it

May I know is there any program available to detect the "signal"? keyboard testor.com shows everything fine though..

Typing some how how feel lighter compare to cherry black.

Double shoot Keycap but build quality still no that pretty/clean compare to western made one.

Aluminum vs PCB board. Such design was not so friendly to remove the switch and led in case you want self repair or replacing the switch it take me some effort to remove it compare to my another board.

PCB quality look better compare to my old china MKB board.

Outemu switch dismantle. The casing was hard to open compare cherry

outemu vs Cherry side by side

So far i can conclude that the build quality is OK but had more room of improvement.

Typing feeling was totally different compare to cherry so this who already get used to cherry switch might want reconsider if getting china switch. But for new user it still an cheaper option to try MKB.

Self DIY for this board will be no recommended unless u know what u r doing.

[WTA] what is the cheapest MKB available with Topre switches?

I actually like the Novatouch but my budget can't stretch that high.

Prefer TKL but will consider 60% too. Secondhand board okay also, as long as it's clean.

so as explained in the advertisement loh.... i haven't spam to found any bug yet.

Running LED
Breathing LED
Certain area light UP
brightness adjust all function well.

So far i can say build quality is quit ok just this black switch feel a lot lighter compare to cherry black and bottom up sound no so solid may be due to aluminum plate. I haven't see other china switch yet so i can't make comparison to tell which one look better build quality yet.

i guess it must be rgB VERSION

I do read the comment that rgb version had some bug to fix and not function well when running certain light pattern.

I am using White LED version. Prefer less problem that why skip RGB.

RK61, poker form factor at pretty much a dirtcheap price (sadly our MYR is at all time weak, exchange rate less than 1.5), but it don't have Cursor keys though.

i think the greatest advantage that the Armaggeddon Black Hornet MKA-3 has over a Corsair K70 is that the MKA-3 uses a standard layout so that you can easily get high quality keysets to replace the stock keycaps. both are using different type of design, Corsair uses exposed switch-top kind of design (where you can see the switch-top from the side) whereas the Armaggeddon the common concealed switch design.

I'm curious why the manufacturer don't even bother to include a shortcut combination arrow keys, like how POKER / HHKB did.

I own the POKER 1st gen and it has the best shortcut key placement throughout the small layout. absolutely brilliant.

If the PCB is only for plate mount, you can clip off the 2 plastic legs of your gateron switches by using plier/finger nail cutter to make them fit.

hi guys. i am looking for a mechanical keyboard. i got the idea on which switch that i want. but i am not well aware of the keyboard models and brands that is available in the market.

my requirement is that i want a low profile keyboard. black in colour and got not back-lighting (back-light that can be turned off is OK as well). reason being, i don't want my wife to noticed i bought a new keyboard out of the blue.

mainly because they adopt standard layout for the keys.
but also because they build quality ones (but for the LED quality, it's rather subjective.)

Thanks.

It is consider 'audiophile' grade but I won't really take that quote too seriously, I tried the wires with my 535ltd, the sound is quite 'thin' and bass is not that pronounced. If just use for keyboards, then no issue and it looks quite pretty, just that the lighting in my room sucks. sweat.gif

Hopefully in November, currently busy with exams. That 8 wire braid seriously take some time to make.

Perhaps this pic below can show it better

hi guys. are there any other quick fire rapid-i users here? i've been using it for about 9-10 months. no doubt, it's a good keyboard, but 3 weeks after using it, some of the leds on the keys died but the keys work just fine. i dont really mind cuz i turn the leds off most of the time. but now what annoys me is that the backspace key, delete key, and the right arrow key have all stopped working. however the leds are still alive rclxub.gif

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

what is happening right here? i tried "turning it off and on again" by plugging and unplugging to another different usb port but it doesn't fix the problem

so now i suspect is mechanical keyboard failure... i bought this through a seller in lelong so i guess i'll just claim warranty :/

just sharing my thoughts to those who plan to purchase this model of keyboard. extremely faulty, having a lot of issues on LEDs (gosh i didn't know this until i googled AFTER the leds on my keyboard died so fast)

The LED and key switches generally work independent to each other, so one faulty should not affect another, except if there's some electrical failure or overloading occur due to that.

As for dead of multiple switches spontaneously, generally it isn't a good sign, may be involving electrical failure of components or controller. But if you are adventurous and like to DIY, can always try to open up the case then take a look at the PCB, sometimes it do tell something. Occasionally there might be switched which badly/forgotten to solder, which may explain the premature dead of certain switches.

Mechanical switch rarely ko. Either bad soldering or the pcb board had issue. Happened to split some water inside?

I wanted to get the Rapid-i at first, not for the LEDs but bec it has detachable cable and USB NKRO.
But when I went to get get one recently, the guy told me better don't buy yet since he had many many returns for warranty claims.
Some even claim 2 or 3 times, and have to have 1 month+ for the warranty claim. He told me he suspect something wrong with the
pcb board. In the end I got a Filco...

Yea. I'm quite happy with it esp since I discovered that its possible to swap to a
custom sleeved usb cable or make it fully programmable with the pegasus hoof.

You guys have been getting Brobots lately since there were so many "You missed out" sales and such? I am wondering anyone in Malaysia would like to do some trading and I figure over the past one year, there have been many Bro for Bro-less sales - surely some of you here have score some and is interested to swap?
