ultra settings 4k resolution tom clancy's the division at 42 fps... playable? yes, but it's not 60fps lets put it that way. but at ultra settings at that reso o_o; hm nice.
I'm using Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming GTX 980 Ti.
As it is I get 40 fps on The Division, Ultra Settings on 4K.
Once I overclock it +75 core +200 mem, I get 42 fps.
someone asked me earlier what async is all about. found a video that explains the situation
bottomline - nvidia async is inefficient compared to amd - but at end of day if the card fps performance still wins regardless of any inefficiencies, then this shouldn't be too big an issue. only tech wise people wish it did have proper hardware async compute similar to amds, so we can get good performance and latencies using that feature.

Thanks for sharing, absolutely brilliant explanation on async compute.
So I guess Nvidia feels async compute is 'not a big deal' and instead sheer performance > async compute gains. In the end, FPS is what matters most. It would have been cool to see Nvidia having async as well, but the way Nvidia has been building their GPU architecture as explained in the vid, it just isn't possible.
P/S: Btw, I stand corrected on the GTX 1080 - waiting for the GTX 1080 Ti would be much more sensible. Their whole Founders Edition priced higher for so-called "premium materials" just feels bollocks. Are they saying third party manufacturers can't do a better job? I get the idea they want the Founders/reference cards to be around for as long as the GPU is available but the price increase is just silly.

haha was thinking of TI pascal but since the samsung note 6 already on my Q4 2016 shopping list when finish contract,,,i just get the 1080 then
at least i glad i never pulled 4 the 970 SLI last year coming from 770 single b4 the revelation of gimped card volta 2 overdue 4 me sadly...next year hunting own house commitment begins argh
I am also planning to get Samsung Note 6 also once it is released.
Planning to replace my TV with a 4k TV next year (or the year after) and probably my GPU in order to play at 4k at 60fps.
Eyeing at GTX 1080 but want to time it with my new 4k TV.
Guys, let's say I want to upgrade my current GPU to gtx1080, should I upgrade my current CPU and motherboard first to avoid bottleneck and any other performance issues?
You may refer to my current rig specs in my siggy.

Thanks in advance for your input.
what bottleneck? very little bottleneck to none if you ask me
even a Sandy Bridge user have no issues pushing the GTX980 Ti
High end models of GTX 980 Ti are now seen at prices as low as RM 2,700.
So now, what's the point of selling off any GTX 980 Ti at sub RM 2,800 range which is around 15% - 30% from the price of purchase, after top up another RM 600 - 800 for 1080.
In the end losing some RM 1k+/- just to gain a bit of performance.

love DigitalFoundry videos
but as mentioned, the difference between older gen CPUs to newer is highly dependable on games, so far as per video open world ones are the ones taxing the most.
Notice how they run without AA and all. Once you put all those settings up and framerates go lower then the gap is narrowed.
I do think it's best to get a reasonable processor, for example some people say it's even find to game on a Pentium G3258 OC but I've personally experienced running a G3258 at 4.5Ghz with a GTX 980 and the performance drop was so bad it looks like GTX 960.
* I made a mistake when installing processor, supposed to install i5-4670K but installed the G3258. I didn't see the label, just plug in and run on same OC settings.*
Let's put all this Nvidia P.R/Marketing/Business crap aside......
If the Founders (Reference) 1080 card is RM3,399 msrp when it hits locally,
YOU CAN EXPECT Custom OC Cards price to be Higher than THAT.
Nobody is gonna spend the time/money/R&D to build custom/OC cards & PRICE it below reference cards. That's basic business sense
I thought custom coolers will be based on basic referrence card which is 100$ cheaper, not FE. I expect the price for custom coolers will not much differ than FE card version.
