very few games can utilise the HT of i7 (Battlefield 4)

my 2 cents, if you have the extra disposable income, yes go ahead to Skylake. you get stuff like M.2, USB3.1 etc etc

otherwise, nah. just wait it out

I see.. I might also consider to upgrade to skylake i5 then smile.gif

If 1080 is RM3400, then can expect 1080 Ti due next year to be RM4000-4600... right?

I think Ti edition estimate between rm 3300 to rm 3800 max after all they don't want to risk their market clashing with titan version.

Nor do they want to overprice themselves against Red team.

Something interesting to watch from Gamers Nexus

Even with 1080 TI , will it able to do 4k @ 60fps ?

I wonder if there's going to be a TITAN for the 10 series.

Not sure how long I'm able to play the waiting game but one day I'll have to surrender because technology is always evolving.

love DigitalFoundry videos

but as mentioned, the difference between older gen CPUs to newer is highly dependable on games, so far as per video open world ones are the ones taxing the most.

Frametimes matters most bro.

An i7 has quite noticeably more consistent frametimes over i5 counterparts as proven on DF videos.

I've also personally went from an OC'd i5 4670k (4.6ghz) to a i7 4790k at stock.
GPU remains the same (980Ti), definitely saw and felt less juddering and better framepacing overall eventhough I was pushing over 80fps at 1440p regardless of either CPU on Witcher 3.

Even moba games which aren't taxing at all benefit a little. I play doto 2 at 120fps, but when there's like a 10 person team fight out, the framepacing can actually spike and drop here and there. Doesn't impact the experience much, but there has been a few times where I mis-timed a skill initiation simply because of a missed frame. So there's that.

It all depends on what your aim. If you wait for 4K 60fps on single card it's going to be a while. If you like me which 1080p 60fps is enough even card from 2013 is able to satisfy you.

Titan cards will always be on later date, nvidia is milking them in server currently so it's going to be awhile before it comes to mainstream. But the price is going to be astronomical. Never in Bolehland history an nvidia xx80 (non Ti) series leaping through RM3K++, so it won't take a genius to guess how much the Ti variant and the Titan would costs. But a GP100-based card is going to be one hell of a card when it released; 15.3 billion transistor, 3840 SP, 240 TMU and 4096-bit HBM2 memory as compared to GTX 1080's GP104 7.2 billion transistor, 2560 SP, 160 TMU and 256-bit GDDR5X. It's something for you to think about...if you have a deep pockets.

Technology is pretty stagnant IMO, to be able to use a card from 3 years back and still be able to run all new games maxed at 1080p is never happen before in PC world. Usually a big DirectX pushed old hardware to obsolescence both in terms of performance and feature, but current trend is push more toward reducing power consumption.

I expected the new generation cards to reduce power significantly since it's a big leap in process node reduction, indeed the new GTX 1070 and 1080 is fast and consume little power but it didn't make my current card any slower in new games. Since I'm not into resolution race, as long as it could render at native LCD resolution with playable framerate I'm good to go. I enjoyed gaming on 32" 1366x768 as much as on 23" 1920x1080.

haha well depends if for long term saving investing best high end card give you more value save money and gets to enjoy every new epic game with best feature available.

like me for example i use my GTX480 for 7 years and still able to manage play decent setting until it die . worth every penny that price came out and time to upgrade this GTX 1080

Make sure the GTX 950 you order is around RM 600. Price drop to around that range already.

You benchmark the games on your setup, the compare to the benchmarks of 1080.

970 price drop a lot already, new ones can be bought for RM 1000 - 1200 range, if not now also really soon.

So if you actually do sell off you might get it for RM 1800 - 2000 only (for both) and on top of that you still have to top up a huge chunk of money for 1080.

Technically gen 4 until gen 9 card uses same gpu architecture so meaning my gtx480 still par gtx 980 just slightly less ram and outdated board so I guess it a right timing investing technology such as this I able to enjoy leap forward new technology gtx 1080 instead buying gtx980.
