yes, one of the condition of SMC being, ...paid-up capital in respect of ordinary shares..., which sole proprietor will not be qualified

u r correct in terms of the application, the small value assets in excess of RM 20,000 will still be qualified under normal IA + CA
(e.g. 11 ICT of RM 1,999 each --> RM 19,990 at accelerated IA + AA while RM 1,999 under normal IA+AA)
but should be IA 40% + AA 20% from YA2024
INCOME TAX (ACCELERATED CAPITAL ALLOWANCE) (INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT) RULES 2024

registration fee will be regarded as initial expense/capital in nature which is not tax deductible; renewal fee should be eligible

referring to dialogue with IRB, page 25 of the PDF
although it is an age-old document, the concept should still apply
though the challenging part would be the 'reasonable basis of apportionment'

Thanks for you help. I have submitted e-filing. Only regret is not enough business expense to deduct. Now I know why taukeys change car yearly, change latest iphone pro max, etc like changing underwear. All purposely done to reduce tax payable.

Question:

1. For sole prop, if I take online courses and certifications (e.g. udemy, coursera, it certifications, etc), can these be considered as business expense (if not 100%, maybe 50% ?) . It is reasonable that I am taking these to be able to improve skill needed for the business, but LHDN officer can also argue that it is personal expense.

I guess this depends on luck and how it is justified. Seeing how taukeys claim their eating out, leisure as entertainment expenses. I think that my reason should be reasonable.

How to qualify for tax relief for the payment of life and medical insurance for spouse and children.

Do you need to be the "owner" of the policy? How to prove you paid for it?

Also, if your spouse insurance is paid monthly, and you pay for 6 months to maximize your quote, is that okay? Spouse will also only claim for the 6 months they paid.

When I pay, it is charged to my card. When my spouse pay, it is charged to their account.

(iv) di mana perlindungan penyakit berat digandingkan dengan polisi asas, jumlah keseluruhan premium/sumbangan rider yang dibayar layak
dituntut sebagai potongan;
(v) di mana perlindungan penyakit berat dipakej bersama perlindungan nyawa/kemalangan persendirian, 60% daripada premium/sumbangan layak dituntut sebagai potongan;

from the borang penerangan BE, it does not say you have to be the owner. so i guess answer is no?

I have not done it but i would think when insurance company issue you a premium statement, that statement is for one person and should only be claimed by one person. even though the premium is 5.5k, cannot be one person claim 2.5k, one person claim 3k i suppose.

if husband 1.5k
wife 1.3k
child 1.6k

I think using this scenario, i would play safe. one person claim 1.3k+ 1.6k, the other person claim 1.5k

i wont take total 4.4k divide by 2. very fishy la

Just to further add on the child portion, one can only claim for medical insurance relief if it is bought for child. If life insurance bought for child, one are not entitled to claim.

When buy ict asset for business is there a point when it is not worth it?

Example I do rough calculation for fy2025, even if purchase ICT asset claim 5k IA and AA, the tax payable is only lesser by few hundred.

in principal no... you pay medical insurance... not medical checkup

so you claim tax relief for the medical premium

however if its not covered 100%... you can clain the uncovered portions

Hi tax experts, I need some help

I am employed full-time in public sector in technical position, and roughly three months ago a company has contracted me to some side gigs (e.g repair services, consultation services) - around 2-3 times this year, and they have paid me around 150-200 ringgit per visit.

The company has recently asked for my tax identification number to fill CP58.

Question:
Do I need to declare income from such non-regular side gigs during tax filing next year? I don't remember the exact amount they paid me already, because I'm paid in cash. The total amount they paid me for all the services provided should be around RM 400-600, but I don't know the exact figure anymore.
