Wow, they even made an effort to call you back. This shows how serious they are.

Yes indeed. I won't not mind if someone can call them to second this statement. Anyway, time to cancel it..

Hi EVERYONE...

I have to retraced back my statement. A minute ago, Maybank representative called me and CONFIRMED that 5% rebate on AMEX will only be applicable for DINING expenses only STARTING 1ST AUGUST 2015.

Conclusion: Will cancel the card since it does not offer petrol rebates anymore.
*
My gut feel that it will be cancelled, just that not all line of communications have been told of this latest development, thus, the different replies from some parties.

Oh well, of all my weekend spending for the 5%, I think less than 10% is on dining...LOL
It's always TNGo top up, petrol, groceries and bill payments to cross the RM1k mark.

ok time to terminate maybank 2 cards. i always hold on my purchase on weekdays and spend everything on weekend just to get cash back up to RM 1000.00.

time to research alternative cards then.

The new framework by Bank Negara will start on July 1st. Which means that the extra fee that AMEX has over Visa and MC will cease on that date. That extra fee partly fuels our rebates and points. So with that gone makes sense that they will be taking it away on 1st August.

They have to delete the statement, so that the newbies can sign up for the card...
But if they read this forum first, they would not have signed the card biggrin.gif

Technically speaking, there is nothing wrong with their current claim of the 5% weekend rebate as it is still valid. Can still continue putting it on their website and other marcom material to attract people. They can advertise it up until 31st July 2015.
