Bad move MBB. Bad move. I hardly dine outside nowadays. No more reason to keep AMEX already.

The new framework by Bank Negara will start on July 1st. Which means that the extra fee that AMEX has over Visa and MC will cease on that date. That extra fee partly fuels our rebates and points. So with that gone makes sense that they will be taking it away on 1st August.

With the new framework more merchants can be persuaded to accept AMEX since the fees wil be the same with Visa and MC. But frankly what's the point? People are just gonna mass cancel Amex after this. All the hardwork by MBB to promote Amex is going down the drain. They could have just reduced the rebate to, say 2%? And get more merchants and new cardholders onboard. But no. They decided to take it all away except for dining. Silly really

If you call to cancel note the name of the CS attending you and request for acknowledgement letter. A few days after that give them a follow up call.

QUOTE(Hysteridull @ Jul 16 2015, 05:17 AM) Hi guys. My friend recently found out his credit card (dual card plan) info was stolen and someone made online purchases for Bitcoins. total is around 3k worth of damage. he never got any SMS informing him of the purchases. He needs to pay. This is just like a stolen car case. If your car is stolen, you still need to pay the monthly payments until the case is solved and insurance payout is released. Same case with thishe did not use his card much since last year and didn't bother checking his statements. he just paid every month. when he wanted to swipe, the transaction normally wouldn't go through. this very very very 'smart' person didn't bother calling Maybank either. Upon finding out, he called maybank and they said they'd investigate it. the problem is that the bill is also considered "outstanding" and they escalated it to the legal department. the legal department has been calling him for a few weeks, threatening to sue him and go down to his office if he doesn't pay. Last week, they called him on Tuesday and threatened him to pay RM1.5k the next day. Despite telling them it's fraud, they insist on him paying the amount. I fear that upon paying, they're not gonna investigate the case further and his money would just be burnt like that. How to rectify this? just pay everything and hope they investigate? This is nuts. If the fraud occurs without any fault from our side, why must we be penalised for it? If there comes a time when my acc kena fraud and MBB asks money for my card to be replaced, I'll cancel it there and then.

A little sad just now when filling up my car. A lot of my routines for the past couple of years were arranged around the weekend cashback.

Other cards might be able to give cashback too, but the appeal of the M2 Amex was that it's very simple. All transactions on weekends. That's it. We just need to find merchants who accept Amex. Sigh. (Damn this is akin to a terrible breakup!
