Yeah. Many major places in Hokkaido can get to by train and bus ... but the frequency is very low. So most people will recommend renting car to drive, or take tour.

Anyway our car rental costs ... around 1200km total driving from sapporo to otaru to sounkyo to asahikawa to jozankei to noboribetsu to hakodate.

▫ 8-day car rental ¥67,918
▫ One-way charge (for returning the car in Hakodate) ¥7,560
▫ 9-days Hokkaido Expressway Pass ¥8,700
▫ Petrol and Parking (estimated) ¥20,000

For any currency exchange, please discuss in the currency exchange thread. If those who wanna go overseas to travel yet are unable to accommodate for the increase in exchange rate, I suggest to travel to someplace else within their budget. This thread is to discuss travel, not currency exchange.

Car rental with English GPS?

I didn't specifically mention needing it when making the car booking (planned to use google maps on phone) but they gave me a car with English GPS.

Ended up use the Car GPS so much more convenient. Input location that time use map code (similar to post code) or phone number, no need to know Japanese at all.

Anyway if you want to see full itinerary I don't want to clog up this tered so opened in /k/ instead --> link.

has anyone here visited koyasan? if yes, do you go on tour? if no, how do you travel to koyasan? i tried googling here but didn't get the answer to my question.

also is it wise to travel to japan during winter? all my japanese friends are against me going there for winter for two reasons: 1) it's too cold that i will be immobile by the weather and 2) i will die from winter. i have survived the wet winter in nz for 4 years so i am fine with the cold. but will there be nothing to visit during winter? i am thinking of osaka and kyoto. otherwise, i will just pack myself to fukui to visit some friends.

thank you!

You no need tour to visit Japan Buddhist mountain.
How to get there: Refer to page 1 and click on Japan Guide Or Google Search type Japan Guide Koyasan.

If Osaka and Kyoto have nth to visit at Winter then Fukui even nothing to visit during winter.

I think the car rental companies also know that you'll most likely prefer to get one with English GPS la haha.

Yea I requested for it when I hired a car in Okinawa early this year. Very easy to use. Had fun searching for codes online then keying it into the GPS and it takes you straight there.

Ok will parking on your thread for future reference. notworthy.gif
