Your statement is flawed.

Talent will always flow to places where such folks are rewarded and appreciated - which is exactly what Malaysia is encountering, a massive brain drain.

Malaysia ain't anywhere near the top of the list of such countries.

The 55 y.o. requirement for West Malaysians to withdraw CPF is not linked to the Malaysian nor Singaporean retirement age. Of course, the retirement age was the reference point when it was setup, but it is not linked. I've got a feeling that it will be lowered or abolished as more negotiations between Malaysia and Singapore progress.

i think west have to wait till 55 years old...while east can withdraw their money when they return to malaysia....provided they give up their PR and will not return to work at SG anymore....

maybe have to consider moving to east if wanna take out the cpf....

i'm not sure if i ate plastic or what, i already shared my experiecne that i found my room at www.sgrooms.com , and the best thing is, you state your requirement and they will contact you. and most of the times, no agent fee

haih.
anyway, i think you have to be extra careful with spending for the first 2 month, especially when signing up for additional package or contract with sg companies, you wil lfeel damn tulan when signup already cannot cancel and need to waste for 6 month of money to cancel.

let's say you stay in some ulu place at bukit panjang, which the room lowest would be $400 for a store-room-alike size.

first month
-rent - 400
-deposit - 400
-agent (if got) - 200
-transport - 50 (bus and mrt)
-body/medical check up ? (around 50sgd)
-10 sgd meal per day (in town) - 300 per month (you can try eat bread)
-phone, call locally/malaysia or still dont want to use postpaid (50sgd+-)
- other stuff for daily use, sabun etc etc - 50
- bank account (posb/dbs, they're like the local maybank) - 500 minimum
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-2000 = rm4800

AND THAT is you're staying almost like inside a store room. and tiongbahru/bugis/littleindia those nearby the central city area will be minimum 800 per month, and that is not confirm if they include water+electricity

You know, the S$500 required to open a bank account is just that... to open a bank account. After the account is open, you can withdraw it to spend. So that $500 shouldn't be on top of whatever youneed to spend eg rental, food etc.

But there is a minimum balance fee that's like a few $ per month, but it's not a big deal to pay it for a couple of months if your financial situation is so tight that you really cannot leave 500 balance in your bank account.

just for your information if you really in tight situation, leave a certain amount like 500rm inside your maybank account, you can use it to withdraw omney from ANY atm machine in Singapore. With one condition

1. you need to call to maybank malaysia and tell them to activate this service, no service charge involve. but best to do it while in malaysia. 1-300-88-6688
(for domestic customers)
603-7844 3696
(for overseas customers)

2. if withdraw from sg's maybank atm - charge 2sgd per transaction
3. if withdraw from other atm in sg - charge 10sgd per transaction

consider this as a last resort backup.

Anybody tried asking the company for a salary advance to help you settle in? For eg. 1/4 salary advance after you've worked 7 days and so on.

Some big 4 accounting firms give hiring allowances eg. dress allowance etc. Others might give relocation allowances to outstation hires.

Sure got, but then again, it depends on how much they want you lah. But doesn't hurt to ask your new boss.

I think all buses stop at least once for toilet break.

Doesnt hurt but it is embarassing. Better save enough money for 1-2 months usage before coming sg.

No lah, I don't think it's embarassing. It's just negotiation.

You don't tell them you're broke and you've got no money to buy food and toilet paper lah. You just say that you are newly relocating to the country and you want to know if the company is willing to help you with relocation costs and initial setup expenses.

This is actually a common thing that workers in Australia, EU and US negotiate for when they move from one job to another job.

When I moved to Singapore, I negotiated for 2 months serviced apartment stay instead of the 1 month initially offered, an appliances allowance (to buy fridge, washing machine etc) and also transport expenses during that period, which helped a lot as I could then afford to take taxis everywhere to do my immigration paperwork, viewing apartments for rent and to do all the shopping required to set myself up in a new country. The new company also paid for the KL-Sg air ticket and excess baggage charges.

For POSB, it used to be free untill DBS bought over to become a bigger bank.... then this people's bank become a commencial bank started charging... but they are also limited in a way unlike DBS... Anyway, that $500 depsit to open account is only there to so that you are not required to pay the administrative charge of $2/mth. If you leave 500 or more in that accouont, no charges will be deducted..

Nothing more than the normal 1 month notice period and a firm handshake to seal a gentleman's agreement.
