They will do just fine without light for a few days, no co2 and no nutrient. Usually WC, 3 days black out, WC, 3 days light, and repeat 2-3 times. It's quite effective to remove algae. Algae takes light to grow, without it, it will starve to death.

Can't be removed with brush?
Before blackout, you need to remove as much algae as you can. Trim leaves with algae, brush glass and tube. Then black out for 3 days, pitch black, you can feed if you want but not sure if they can see it. After 3 days, do a 50% WC, light on, crank up co2 and dose nutrient. Repeat.

with shrimp, it's a bit risky. Sensitive creatures.
How big is your tank? If it's small, use those small hose attach to the card/toothbrush with rubber band, so it sucks out the algae when your scrap it, otherwise they will stick back. Do a WC afterward.
Then do 30% WC daily/alternate day to remove algae zoospores (which will turn into algae).

oh no, BBA attack...
I had done a few changes to my tank and getting BBA, which one is the cause?
- 50% WC last week (never do WC for more than a year, only minor BBA existed) - apply micro and macro fert - add new plants

QUOTE(artsyfarty @ Mar 3 2016, 10:15 AM) Does you tank has the green dust algae? The one stick on tank glass. Unfortunately yes... I have all sorts of algae in my tank, green spot, BBA, green dust, green hair... Green hair easy to remove. For green spot and green dust, I use those green sponge to clean the glass. Hardest are BBA...

QUOTE(WaSzupDupe @ Mar 6 2016, 05:50 PM) Nice!! Very inspiring. Feel like setting up something like this from scratch. The only problem is that its quite a dollar investment - chiller, lights, and so on...

But how do you keep your tank cool? Without chiller, my tank runs between 31C to 32C. Since I use chiller, I set it at 24C. Keeping the tank cool is my biggest challenge.
