Anyway, my friend know how to buy from Taobao and he is interested in some of the accessories. we will buy together from the 1st Taobao seller you intro. QUOTE(SJ18 @ Jan 2 2015, 09:48 PM) Just in case you have not found the handle bar lock ring as yet, you can try buying local online dealer (Mike Bicycle Shop). They may have bought it from Taobao too but buying fr them may save you hassle of importing in. Thanks for the info. I will try to get from Taobao 1st. https://www.facebook.com/MikeBicycleShop/ph...?type=3&theater |

Ok got another noob question for the sifus here. I am currently running a SRAM X4 RD on my tern link d8 (thanks etigge!). My wife and I are tinkering with the thought of changing to double chainrings.
My question is : would a SRAM x4 FD accommodate say, a 53/39T crank? I've read online in some other overseas forums and they said it wouldn't work. Which brings me to my next question. Would it be then possible to change the RD to a road bike RD for my wide range 11-32T cassette? From what I know the biggest road bike cassettes are like 11-28T at most. I went back and read sifu etigge's posts and I've seen him using shimano road RDs like tiagra and sora. Are you using a wide range cassette as well? If it really works I would prefer to change the entire setup to a road groupset then, instead of having some weird hybrid MTB rear and Road front setup lol. |

QUOTE(valkyrie1232 @ Jan 4 2015, 12:39 PM) Ok got another noob question for the sifus here. I am currently running a SRAM X4 RD on my tern link d8 (thanks etigge!). My wife and I are tinkering with the thought of changing to double chainrings. The SRAM X4 RD is OK if you want to add a double chainring for your setup. But finding a left shifter is going to be hard. You need to buy a pair both left and right. The FD is quite universal, meaning you can use SRAM or Shimano or even Microshift shifters but the rear RD , Shimano needs Shimano RDs and SRAM needs SRAM's RD. So, for yours, if you want to change double chainring, I think it is prudent you get Microshift 8 speed shifters. Then also get the Microshift's FD.My question is : would a SRAM x4 FD accommodate say, a 53/39T crank? I've read online in some other overseas forums and they said it wouldn't work. Which brings me to my next question. Would it be then possible to change the RD to a road bike RD for my wide range 11-32T cassette? From what I know the biggest road bike cassettes are like 11-28T at most. I went back and read sifu etigge's posts and I've seen him using Shimano road RDs like tiagra and sora. Are you using a wide range cassette as well? If it really works I would prefer to change the entire setup to a road groupset then, instead of having some weird hybrid MTB rear and Road front setup lol. I don't know what other online forum's are saying but I have install 14, 15 , 18 and 20 speed on foldie's without problem. I even installed a 105 Shimano cassette (11/28T largest) on a 16 inch folding bike. The cassette has the same space width regardless if it is road bike or mountain bike, that is it is of the same number of gears. Eg. Shimano 9 speed Deore and the Sora 9 speed cassette are the same width. Only the ratios are different. The road bike uses smaller cassettes for smoother shifting and also road riding don't need such a big ratio difference. Point is, the cassette of both MTB and roadbike can be used if the number of gears are the same. RD is another subject altogether. Most roadbike have short cage (the part holding the two pulleys on the RD). For smaller difference in ratio, it shifts faster and more accurately. That's why roadbike shifting is crisp. The maximum nowadays is 30T for roadbikes. They can start from 11T or 12T. THose models with 30T also comes with medium length cages to compensate for the chain slack. Mountain bike RD's of course can go to 36T maximum. But the RDs are also mountain bike. The chain length needs to be adjusted carefully though, to take up the slack and the maximum that I have tried is 34T for a 406 wheelset. 451, no problems. But for 8 speed, the max. is 32T only anyway. Front is always roadbike setup, eg. 52/39T or 53/39 or compacts 50/34 but the rear set up can be mountain or roadbike. You need to prioritize your riding. I have used the SRAM's X5 on my Vigor and Dash before and the rear cassette was 11/34T with SRAM's X5, no problems. But I am using Shimano 105 on the same Dash now as I changed to 451 wheelset , so needs C-brakes (road bike types) and also the faster shifting of the roadbike setup. Cassette is 12/30T and it's more than enough already. Happy Riding and also " man man lam" Hahahaaa. This post has been edited by etigge: Jan 4 2015, 07:15 PM |

First off, thanks for taking the time to answer my long question with an even longer answer lol!
So in other words, if I want to maintain using sram x4 RD I would have to find a different model FD and FD shifter such as microshift/SRAM/shimano right? I'm really reluctant to change the largest sprocket from 32T to 30T... Haha! Another noob question. If say I already have an X4 left shifter which shifts from 1-3, would it be compatible with a road FD? Since it's kinda universal anyway.. |

QUOTE(valkyrie1232 @ Jan 4 2015, 08:16 PM) First off, thanks for taking the time to answer my long question with an even longer answer lol! Yes, you can use the 3 speed front shifter for the 2 chainring cranks. You set the limit on the FD and the shift won't go to position 3, that's all. So, you basically only needs the double chainring, the FD and the adapter and off course the extra cable and housing. So in other words, if I want to maintain using sram x4 RD I would have to find a different model FD and FD shifter such as microshift/SRAM/shimano right? I'm really reluctant to change the largest sprocket from 32T to 30T... Haha! Another noob question. That really answers all my confusion. The hunt for the crankset, FD and FD adapter starts now. Cable should already be attached to the shifter, so I guess just the housing then. |

QUOTE(etigge @ Jan 2 2015, 09:14 PM) Speed is relative to your performance. If you have the stamina and endurance, it should be OK. Then again the Boardwalk can also be as fast as the Dash if you change the wheelset to 451 as well. But as mentioned , it's relative to your performance as 451 needs more power to pedal than a 406. But that is negated by the smaller width tires that the 451 is shodded with. Advantage of the Dash is the regular geometry of the frame which is stiffer. Bad side is the folding is not so nice. We are talking about folding bikes right and if folding is not a criteria, might as well go for the mini velo. Sifu,I have both the Dash (upgraded to 20 speed) and the Dahon Speed P8 (upgraded to 27 speed) and I seem to be using the Dahon Speed more often. It's easier to ride, less effort to ride, more relaxed position and I ride further with it. The Dash is although faster but fast means it tires out faster as well, so long distance is not really good. I tried once riding from Sepang to Tg.Sepat and back, my wrist muscle is really sore after that and that make me use it even less. I even tried selling it off but no takers. I think you can use both bikes and not sell off the Boardwalk. Much better as you can choose which bike to ride depending on the ride venue. From memory you also have a Performer mini velo with dropbar, right? The dropbar would be better suited for longer rides I would think. What's the Performer like compared to the Dash? Cheers |

Hey guys, am thinking to jump into the folding bike scene. Was thinking of touring with my regular sized bike, but decided that foldies will be easier to transport, etc.
My budget is around 2.3K or below, and I came across this bike: Tern Link D16 , priced at 2.3K exactly. Can't find many reviews online. Was drawn in by the Tiagra RD, but I heard that having regular road RD for foldies is not a good idea? As in I might hit it out of alignment? Is that really a big issue though (never traveled with a packed foldie before so I wont know)? Which brings me to the next question: how many gears is enough to achieve regular touring speed, and to go on an uphill without getting off the bike? Will either the Dahon Speed P8, Vitesse, or the Tern Link D8 be enough? What would be your recommendation for my budget range? (preferably below, so that I can spend on other accessories). Thanks in advance!! |

QUOTE(desastar @ Jan 5 2015, 05:26 PM) Sifu, Yes, but that's my wife's mini velo. The Performer is rigid chromoly frame and very light. After chnaging to Ultegra groupset, it is below 9 kg. Originally it was a straight bar and I change it to a bull horn bar or what they call TT bar. Compared to the Dash, the Performer is a better ride but Dash is foldable but Performer is not. The Dash is an X20 now and I use it for more shorter and tarmac rides. Long distance, my wrist pains after 80 km. For distances longer than that or multiple day riding, I use my Dahon Speed. From memory you also have a Performer mini velo with dropbar, right? The dropbar would be better suited for longer rides I would think. What's the Performer like compared to the Dash? Cheers It seems the Dahon Dash is priced near 3K now and they have reverted back to C-brakes and 451 wheelset. ![]() |

Schwalbe Marathon Plus is doing its job well For sure the B wasn't ridden on a trainer but tarmac and some rough surfaces... Ooops! This post has been edited by outdoorxplorer: Jan 5 2015, 08:07 PM |
