Got myself a Dahon Vybe fr Kimbell Jaya which is a great bike for a newbie like me. Have been riding it alternate days and decided 2 pimp my ride by adding some accessories like rear light, Cateye Velo Wireless+ and mirror. Also ordered a front light which hopefully is on the way smile.gif

yeah I found khassbicycles after some searching, almost tempted to go jb tomorrow until I found a local shop that has dahon vybe for rm1k so I can save the trouble to travel to jb (I am in batu pahat)
They also have java TT 7 at rm850 wonder which one should I go for? (I never own a foldable before)
As usual they are trying to push some china brand to me instead.
*
Best that u buy from nearest dealer. As most Vybe in market now is still 2014 model, u shud try to nego as in KL, some shops r letting it go for ~900. For brand, after personally chatting with a 4 to 5 shops, Dahon is still the better brand as more established. Like u, I am also new 2 foldies and reading from all the sifu comments in this forum, good brands are Dahon, Tern...

not in expert league but more in try n error phase.still much more to learning.sometimes being gearhead also kena tapau with 6speed alloy unknown brand folding bike when climbing up hills... shocking.gif  shocking.gif really a shame lah..now need to upgrade my leg also tongue.gif
*
Bro, I have same problem with the legs, therefore, now avoiding steep climbs and just sticking to the taman circuit. Oredi very challenging with some moderate climbs, staying clear of the potholes and not being knocked over by cars sweat.gif

Anyone here could help to point out which shop can get Java Fit 16 speed at good price?

Currently the cheapest I've seen is RM1.6k give or take RM20..
*
Most dealers on BBS are advertising close to 1.6k but u can still get additional 5 to 10% off when you go their shop. Sometimes they may not lower the price but will throw 1 or 2 freebies, eg. bottle cage or give u higher discounts on accessories. Anyway, u shud also buy it from a shop that u r comfortable with and also conveniently located for u to follow-up if there's a problem with the bike, service etc... Good luck anyway on your hunt !

any sifu knows what is the different btw dahon vybe c7s and c7a?
also how to tell if the dahon bike component (gear etc) is stock factory component?
Same design but different materials.  c7s ,  S is steel ,while the c7a, A is aluminium.  S rides better but heavier and it rusts, A is a harsher ride because it's stronger and ridgid but much lighter. If you want to upgrade to 8.9 or 10 speed later, better to get the c7a as the RD hanger is easier to mod while the c7s is just a slim plate and putting on an RD hanger is harder BUT possible. Kimbell Jaya has modded a few before to using Acera  RD and shifters, 8 speed.

What you buy when the bike comes initially is the stock factory component.  tongue.gif No bike shops will want to change it. Don't worry.
*
Sifu, for c7a, what crankset & FD do you recommend which is also not too expensive ? Who will be best to do the mod ? Jimmy of Kimbell Jaya ?

Forgot to mention that I want to improve bike climbing performance. If changing the crankset is not the solution, then what else do u recommend ?

I think Jimmy can solve it for you. It's not too expensive ( I think he has some unbranded one 53/39T) and he also has the adapters and FD. Just visit him and check it out.  icon_rolleyes.gif If you wan t me to do it, let me know. If climbing hills, you want to be sure, mod it to 27 speed. You can mod it 30 speed if you so wish , just that 27 and 30 speed , price difference is a lot with just a little improvement. If using the granny chain ring (30T), you cannot climb slopes, then you have to TnT or else install a motorised front hub and hang some huge batteries on your rear rack.  tongue.gif
*
Thanks Sifu for the advise... and ya, if still hv problem climbing slopes with the granny gears, then I really need icon_question.gif Will PM you when I decide to go ahead with the mod ... smile.gif

First you must understand the theory of using the gears. Many misunderstand and starts freewheeling themselves till they get cramps  blush.gif we take an 8 speed as an example with 11T/32T

Presume, you ride a bike, let's say in a gym or riding on a flat ground. Choose a setting where you can ride comfortably without stressing. Eg. 53T front x  15T (usually 3rd gear). With this you ride just casually and you can ride for say 30 minutes without stopping and it doesn't really tire you out. Now! as you ride you came to a gradual slope and the pedaling gets a bit hard, so, you shift into lower gear (means bigger gears at the rear)  Eg. 24T (that's the 6th gear) and at this ratio, you get back the same pedal force you exert at the flat roads. You stay at this ratio and never ride even lower gear that many riders tend to do! You shift at the same pedal force that you are comfortable with. And then you hit an even more steeper slope , so you shift up until you get the same force you exert at the flat roads.

So, further on , you come to an even more steep and you have shifted to the last low gear 32T and you still can't get to the same pedalling effort, then you ran out of gears. Here, you either have to push harder till you cannot continue and push lorr.  tongue.gif  In the case of 2 chainring, here you can downshift to 39T (front) and this will give you another few notches lower gearings and it you have triple 30T for the granny gear as we call it, then you have even lower than lower gears.

Over time, you improve, first your pedalling effort can go harder and also your time frame , you can pedal longer like 2 hours continuous or maybe more. That's how we train, slow and patiently. If you just rush in 'gung ho' style and get yourself all cramp up, you will think cycling is lousy and give up! Hahahaa tongue.gif

Thanks for the great explanation thumbup.gif and so much more easier to understand now. As I m still a taman rider with some moderate climb only, I was originally thinking of just mod the front chain ring (3 or 2) and keep the current 7 back (neo's). Still ok or not ? smile.gif if ok, how much ahh ? Not expensive component but also don't want non branded chapalang stuff ... thanks

Then amis 2.1 should be a good start rm1k for her to test of she like cycling. If she decide to upgrade you still have 2.5k to burn in future. Or another bike h2d suggested earlier is dahon visc d18 also a good choice
Ok thanks. Thanks alot i will try to look around some more. Visc looks like a good setup for a recreation cyclist too bad i didnt like the frame. It should look very good for the ladies too

Besides Dahon Vybe, I also have the Amis FAC 2.1 24speed and it's a great bike to ride. The frame is sturdy yet feels light. No creaking sound and able to climb pretty well. However some minor setbacks about it is that the mid section of handlebar does not come with 2 rubber washers to hold the entire handlebar in position when you release the lock during folding. As a result, the bar slides left to right and vice versa quite easily, thus causing a lot of scratch marks. Was frustrated when I can't find such
parts from local bike shops. Finally solved it when I found similar looking washers for sale in Tokyo 😃. Overall, no regrets with the Amis and fast becoming my fav bike ...

Great to know you enjoyed the bike and the white look real awesome. Is it posibble for you to show how the rubber washers look like?

It's not the same but still served the purpose. Bought mine pretty cheap, a pair cost about RM9/=. The color options on the Amis bike is pretty limited. Wud normally prefer a black bike but it came with shades of pink which wud have great if it was my wife riding it doh.gif . Anyway, liked the white thumbup.gif as it looks much cleaner !

Took pic of the new 2015 Vybe D7 ... basic stuff for all the sifus but good for the rest of us newbies. I like the Matt Black version on the right hand side (which the Japanese label as "frost")...

dahon in jap shud be more expensive than msia.... no?

Ya, based on displayed RRP, it looks higher ~ RM 1,400+ but then this was in a department store where you probably get it cheaper only during sales. However, their other accessories are cheaper though, esp the Cateye speedo (90 vs 120 in Malaysia for same item), front and rear lights etc.. but too bad for me as I oredi buy locally cry.gif

A fellow forummer brought his Dahon Vybe for moddings. Initially wanted to mod the front first but later I found out that the 7 speed Neos cannot take the slack of the chain when we choose 39T and 13T at the rear. I replaced it with an 8 speed unit and also it cannot handle it so change the hangers as well and I installed an old Sora RD I had in my drawer. So, those who wants to upgrade, you need to upgrade the rear first or upgrade together.  tongue.gif  So, at present it is a 14 speed bike but later when the hubs are replaced and a 9 speed cassette and shifters are added, it will be 18 speed.

Yea i think i got a little excited and pushed a little to far yesterday. Legs are extreme wobbly and the butt sore was terrible. Was planning for a night ride but have to cancel cause it stings!
Today i tested to ride and the sore was lesser so went on a leisure ride at desa park. Just got back but the pain didnt get worse. So i think you are rite..wasnt really the saddle but the intensity Also the terain today is less bumpy. Thanks for the tip etigge! I ride on a d16 btw biggrin.gif
*
I changed my saddle to a Selle Royal Gel and it still didn't help much. Finally added an "el cheapo" gel padded cover which I transferred fr an old MTB and I cud ride for an hr without much problemo biggrin.gif

Good choices and from what I know, the Tern Links look more robust and good for touring whereas the Verge are built for speed. There were some used units available for sale on BBS but got snapped up quickly as condition was mint due to low usage by previous owners. As for shops, you will probably need to go to main Tern dealers
- My Bicycle Shop @ bandar utama
- Rodalink (they hv some promo for 2013 & 2014 stock but color choices limited on Link D8)
- Kimbell Jaya @ cheras

All the best in yr hunt and final selection !
