Petshop of course lah.... they do not know anything and long beans can simpan longer than sawi. That is why they feed long beans. Petshops, majority of petshops got no knowledge on tortoise keeping and also diet.

Hibiscus is Bunga Raya lah.... dun tell me dekat your rumah tak da?

My star tortoise doesn't seem to like water. Gave it a little shallow pan of water/pool for it but it doesn't seem too keen on going in. Wonder if it's alright? sweat.gif

It can keep longer and it is also easier to buy. Leafy veggie like Sawi, if you keep it open with nothing to cool it or damp it sure layu already. Long beans are dry, also easy to buy and keep without a fridge. it can last a few days longer than sawi if you do not cut it.

Actually, just pluck lah. I ask people if I can take some leaves, people's plants summore and they let. I even go cut people's opuntia cactus....

There is already a list of veggies for stars... it is up to you to research. Already mention sawi and there are many kinds of sawi. Romaine lettuce, Sweet Potato leaves, collard greens if you can find this, endives.... but the best is giving them sawi, hibiscus flower and leaves and also opuntia cactus. Kangkung once a while is ok, but not everyday.

They are land tortoises, rarely they find water holes to soak in if they are in their natural habitat. They do not enjoy high humidity as well. If you fear it doesn't drink enough water, then you soak your star yourself. I normally place my star in a bowl that has an inch of water since my star is big. If he wants to defecate, he would do so.... if he wants to drink, he would do so. The whole time he drinks and defecate, I would be watching so I know when he is done, I just take him out, wipe him dry and put him back in his enclosure.

please do not feel offended by my prior remarks.

reading previous posts before posting something is just common sense. discussing redundant issues every 3-4 page won't be constructive to the thread. the effort to do some simple search also proves your passion, and you'd come with more constructive questions once you do some research, trust me.

uzairi had compiled essential knowledge and posted them on the first page, reading them 1st would help. nod.gif

please note that your room is too cold for reptiles, turn off that air cond otherwise long term complications will occur.

and change the filtration system for your diamondback to something bigger. that pinkie-sized internal filter won't help no matter how often you change the water (i come to understand that water quality in cyberia is a bit below average)

Well, perhaps I should spent half of my day going through the thread and read every single page, rather than asking a particular question (yes, even though it's repetitive) that could be answered by anyone here within a speed of light.

If this annoys anyone to answer a question that could have been repeated, then kindly ignore my post. I'd rather use more of the Search function or Google than to ask questions here then. smile.gif

Anyways, thanks for the information in the first place. I do appreciate that. No offense to anyone.

Thanks for the information everyone smile.gif I was just feeling a bit worried because the care page on the first page of the topic said that they needed some water, and so far my tortoise hasn't even really touched it, so yeah sweat.gif

we didn't mean you can't post/ask questions. and we sure won't ignore any posts!

the point is, do some readings/research 1st, only then ask questions. you'll understand a lot more that way and come up with more constructive questions. that would benefit both you and the thread itself.

p/s: try posting something in the Aquarium thread without doing any prior research, see if their answers are as polite and bearable as ours LOL..

Both of them are still here alive and kicking, doing much better after being traumatized by the owner (I'm babysitting them for a while). sweat.gif

hi everyone, first time posting here after going through all the tips discussed prior to this.

i bought a couple of hatchling star tortoises a few months back, and i must admit i'm pretty new in this. i know you guys are saying that hatchings are more prone to sickness and die easily, which is why i'm being extra careful here.

i'm feeding my tortoises mustard greens and cabbages (is this ok?) because other than that they won't eat anything else, even pellets. i'm wondering is it because that they're still young they don't really like those? occasionally i'll put them out in the garden for sunbathing and they'll chomp away some of the lawn grasses.

also, i noticed that one of my tortoises have RNS this week, is there any extra steps i need to take to make sure it heals? because i read somewhere RNS is quite serious and can cause death if untreated over a certain period of time. right now i'm putting them under some lamp (dunno what you call these, the yellow light bulb thing) which i hope will keep them in a temperature which is more suitable. previously i keep them indoors without these lights, perhaps that's why it got sick.

another thing i hope you guys can help me out here, since i occasionally let them stray around in the garden, do i need to get them those anti-parasite stuff they sell in pet shops?

hope to keep them for a long time to come, don't want anything bad happening to them.

thanks in advance people...

hi guys, may i know where do you all keep your tortoise? anyone keeping it inside plastic container like toyogo?

i have 2 star tortoise, one is 2 inches big and another is slightly more than 3 inches which i added recently, and now the container is like very packed already.

actually i'd been looking for plastic container like toyogo in major supermarket but non of them satisfy me, it's either too small or it's too deep, so instead for keep looking, i think i better just find another solution. so can anyone here suggest a good and affordable tortoise container for me? i prefer something that's light so that i can easily bring the whole container out for sun bath.

other than plastic container i also thinking of getting an offer bin (picture below), the one u usually see when there are discount in most fashion shop, but the problem is i dunno where to get one sad.gif anyone here know where i can get one?
