QUOTE(rumizu @ Jan 3 2007, 04:59 PM) uzairi.. If given proper care and space some can reach 11 inches but only female reach that size .Male max out around the 6-7 inche mark i have two Red Eared Slider.. named Kame & Kappa.. btw, how do i know their gender.. and one more thing, how big can they grow? //they always do the knockČ on the aquarium.. But average size will be around the 7 - 8 inches mark The slider 's gender can be determine by three way - The faster growing sibling most properly female - Adult Male posses longer front nails (use in mating ritual to arouse female ) - Adult male longer tail |

QUOTE(rumizu @ Jan 3 2007, 10:23 PM) thanks uzairi and samperth.. Ya chelonian can get selsemabtw, tort also can kena selsema eh? is knocking on the aquarium is normal for the slider? If serious can kill it and treatment not easy if tortoise or turtle already weaken may not respond well to treatment The "knocking on the aquarium " do they swim downwards into corner and keep doing that If so they just trying to get away from something provide a hide (broken flower pot will solve problem) This post has been edited by SAMPERTH: Jan 4 2007, 08:13 AM |

Enlighten me on the rugosas thing what is it a kind of plant (Rose) or ???? How they kill RES or ingested ??? This post has been edited by SAMPERTH: Jan 18 2007, 06:28 PM |

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 19 2007, 10:26 AM) Almost every LFS got... Thanks for telling me now I know Is the size difference great ??Macrochelodina rugosa = Chelodina rugosa and Chelodina siebenrocki combined. Something like they found out that sibenrocki is an invalid species (not enough morphological differences with rugosa) and classify them as Macrochelodina rugosa. They of course snap-attacked small RES till dead. |

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 19 2007, 02:39 PM) the 3 adopted RES were about 2" scl. i put them in an aquarium with two 6" snakenecks to let them share some UV light. the rest is history. No wonder the RES end up feeder RES as the size difference is too much the 2 " RES is only like 50 % bigger than the head of the snake neck and the shell are still " soft " from hatching trying to think of it... i wonder why i didn't put them with the slightly bigger res instead of rugosas The snake neck see the baby RES as food rather then tank mate |

I havent seen such big Radiata my own eyes but i sure wish it was mine http://www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au/Animals--Pla...iated-Tortoise/Kamekame. The biggest one I saw was in Perth Zoo from estimation I think in the 12-13 inches range maybe larger The Domed Shell make them so special |

QUOTE(athlonxp @ Feb 12 2007, 07:34 PM) need help here You refer to your turtle as she /her are you 100 % sure it is a she or has she laid some eggs before my 9 yrs old tortoise suddenly refuse to eat since last week i dont know wat kind of tortoise it is..but it look exactly like this http://www.chelonia.org/cyclemysdentataJM5.jpg i got her when she climb into my house 9yrs ago.. food that i usually give her is kangkong, banana, turtle food sold in pet shop, watermelon, honey dew and some green vegetable left from cooking i let her out under the sun for few times a week wat should i do now? help My first thought could she be gravid (loss of appetite)or egg bound if it is a she You have done everything right (diet seem OK sun basking enough) Can you take a pic of your turtle underside with the tail showing or the overall shape of your turtle as if your turtle is the same specie as the pic you posted shape can be used to sex them (adult) |

From picture the rounded shell does point the finger that it is a she but from base to anus part of tail is saying it is a he (as this specie has long tail in general )
It must be a hatchling when you got him (climb into house) as 9 years on it is still quite small (I would say about 7 inch SCL) Another thing could be internal parasites Have you worm it in the 9 years you got it ??? As with daily outing in the garden it is sure to pick up something nasty |

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Feb 20 2007, 12:04 AM) just to add some updates today. now my quad res are more than 4in scl. 1 of them has developed a strong thick d***. his tail seems longer and bolder. wow. this fella can do real damage! his plastron now concaver than before. a natural preparation for a natural pleasure i suppose. LEVIATHANthe female res now more hostile towards me. she just hate to be touched. she bites, and i ended with white, clamped skin and it turns to red in no time. and dang it hurts. she the only female, so b17chy -ness is good. jual mahal beb. pellets need to supplied in larger quantity now. 8 months back, they cant even eat pellets. i fed them with tubifex worms. but now, they easily eat the pellets with 1 ngap. dang expensive pellets. hagen nutrafin and wardley's are their fav. plus meal worms, 2 times weekly. just hope they are not mating now. im moving to setapak this april. so moving with some eggs are nightmare. that's all for now. ok! thanks! The res you are refering to is Red-eared Slider -Trachemys scripta elegans I presume Even thou the male may/may not start showing interest towards female but I am 100 % that female at 4 inch - 6 inch will not lay eggs even if mated / not mated to From what I know RES 's male only grow longer nails thicker longer tail and no concave plastron Have you got another species or ???? I would love to see your RES's concave plastron PLS do post their pics THANKS in advance |

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Feb 20 2007, 06:53 PM) dear SAMPERTH, Are the four RES your first RES or have you had other RES before as I have seen many adult RES be them Male or female NO male RES has a concave plastron ya ya res is red eared slider. i pwn them 4. and oh that's good if the female wont produce any egg in near future. i love to have a pastel res. haha. but absolutely not now. im not ready. i dont have neither a basking lamp, nor sand for eggs. later later. about concavity of the male res' plastron. maybe im wrong but the word concave means curving in or hollowed inward. and i do believe that plastron of a male res, do concave. and here is a link to confirm this. That link is just teaching you to sex M and F turtle in general not just slider species Pls do post your RES 's plastron pic (the concave part ) would really love to see that (eye opener ) Thanks |

QUOTE(hivemy @ Feb 22 2007, 10:27 AM) My Star Tortoise is sick! Watery Nose could also mean allegeric to small dust particles stuck in nose I think it got flu? Or bitten by something? - Nose is watery and comes bubble (could be flu) - Always sleeping for 2 days without eating - Eyes is always sleeping, watery - Don't want to eat - After opening eyes for few seconds, it goes back to sleep - Sometimes it walks with eyes closed. But bubbles only mean flu - Runny Nose Syndrome (RNS) Could be easy to treat if preventive measure like vitamin given regularly High humidity in tropical monsoon season usually cause species from drier area have RNS And the eye are they sunken or puffy and watery too ??? |
