Fiber is not as fragile as many taught.
As long as your connection is fine, don't need to do anything or worry, nor telco will act on something which is working fine.

Fiber is susceptible for "fragile" if the cable is bend or pull excessively.

Fiber although inside is glass, it is protected by insulating materials. It is not exposed, nor as fragile as glass bottle.
A good read on myth of fragile of fiber cable.

What worried me was the drop in connection that one time when the workers tugged at the cable a lot, and the cement that now covers part of the cable, which may eat through or compromise the insulating layer. Insulating materials or not, I noticed that the outdoor black fiber cable is actually thinner than the white indoor one...so while I'm confident that it was designed to withstand weather and temperature, I have my doubts that it is stronger than what it was designed for.

But I guess you are right. If TM won't act on a potential issue, there is not much I can do about it. unsure.gif

Cement won't "eat" into the cable, in fact cement may add another layer of protection for cable. biggrin.gif

Cement once set is a "stone", while insulating layer is made of polymer materials. So I do not see any science behind that cement can "eat" into the polymer.

We actually have many concealed cable behind our cement wall.

Fiber cable itself is thinner as the glass inside actually very tiny/thin only, barely can be seen by eye.
So there is nothing wrong to be "thin", nor strength wise is comprised by "thin".

Tugging cable resulted in sudden loss of signal is pretty normal.
If the tugged cable is really damage, you cannot online anymore.

Only if there is intermediate loss of signal from time to time, only can confirm something wrong with the SNR of the cable.

Does anyone know if there's any ongoing issues with unifi lately?

my upload rate is 10% of 10mb when its meant to be at least 80%.

Download is fine, still getting around 9-10mbps. Just terrible upload.

Technicians have been to my house and also troubleshooted from outside but problem still persists

Hey fellow UniFi users, just want to ask your opinions.

I hv been using UniFi for about 2 years now without any problem, but a recent development has made me worried.

You see, I live in a terrace residence, and one day my neighbor decided to extend the back area of their house by building a room over their backyard. My outdoor UniFi cable (black colored, but still thin) crosses over a part of the neighbor's backyard towards the telephone pole with the UniFi box...apparently the technician who installed the line did this to minimize how many bends are in the cable for so called 'maximum speed'. I don't know if it's bullsh*t or not.

Anyway, recently, the neighbor's renovation has finished, and now part of my outdoor UniFi cable goes through a small gap in the neighbor's new wall. A small part of the cable has been covered in a small amount of cement, and at one point during the construction, the optic light on the BTU went red for a few seconds because the construction workers were yanking the cable non-stop. I went out to scold them and explain that the fiber cable is fragile, but they ignored me for the most part and continued to treat the cable as just another obstacle.

Right now my line is fine, but I'm worried that the neighbor's inconsiderate act might have damaged the cable in some way. As prevention is better than cure, and I don't want to wait weeks for a TM response while not having internet access, do you think it's a good idea to call a TM technician over to take a look ASAP?

Sorry for long post, and thanks if you read this.

Should one day you find yourself without internet, who you gonna call? G̶h̶o̶s̶t̶b̶u̶s̶t̶e̶r̶s̶ I mean TM lah of course! sweat.gif

Until then, take it easy. Your 'responsibility' only starts at the modem. Anything before that is TM's.

Please don't see the word glass, already think it is easy "shattered".

The glass inside won't just shatter just because you drop the cable to the floor, or tugging a bit.

Hi,

Anyone here using TPLink 1043nd V1 and Homeplugs for hypptv? I have Aztech 1Gbps homeplugs but cant seem to get connection from Homeplug to Router.

There is connection between Homeplug to Hypptv STB though. Hypptv works when connected directly to the router though.

Tried:
a) flashed latest TPLINK firmware
b) all different ethernet ports
c) factory reset and re-connect homeplugs.

Try a different port on your router. One of the port is just specifically for STB only.
