While everyone keeps moaning about 8GB cards I'm enjoying mine. Since Maxwell II BIOS editor and nvflash is now mature enough I start to mod my VBIOS, now it runs max 1455.5MHz GPU Boost by default, without throttle and increased power limit to 250W default and max 300W. Rock stable, not testing for highest overclock but I done some testing with 1555MHz core and 8000MHz memory it's rock stable and only reaching 70C on Fire Strike. Best Card. EVER

Yeyyah... 8GB variant of the GTX970/980
I know Nvidia will be cooking up 22nm Maxwell sometime in 2015... a long long wait. I'm confident Maxwell has a lot of magic yet to be revealed. Also waiting for Maxwell's "Titan" (supposedly called "Titan II" GPU), not that I am going to ever buy, but just want to see some crazy high benchie scores and Nvidia's marketing of 'the most powerful card ever made' which I always enjoy. |

Got my Gainward 970 reference.
Quick question: I know that the housing is made of plastic, and when I first turned my pc on yesterday, it had the slight hint of "burnt plastic", and I THINK its coming from the gc because I could vaguely smell it coming from the card when I first opened it in its packaging. Its more obvious now when its running. Is this normal ? Anyone with the Gainward 970 reference can testify here ? Maybe its "new hardware" so need to wait before the smell goes away by itself ? No problems in games though, temps hovering around 50-60. Tried dota 2 so far, and redownloading battlefield 4 and Metro Last Light now. |

Hey guys, I did peel off all the plastic before assembling it. Sorry I couldn't find the correct term to "label" the smell... I think "fresh electronic smell" is a more correct term compared to "burnt plastic".. haha. Lets see if its still there tonight.
Will post some benchmarks later after work.. here's the system: Core i5-4440 with Scythe Katana4 Asrock H97M-ITX/ac Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600 LP Gainward GTX 970 ref Silverstone Strider Plus 600w (80+ silver ver.) Ok, I think then it makes more sense. When I first unbox my Strix, it did have that new "electronic" smell too. Something similar to those "plastic" smell only available in new cars. Anyway, that smell is no longer there now. Can't be precise when it got away though, didn't go and sniff my rig... hahaha...

HiHi, im still in dilemma on choosing GPU, either 980 or 970 (both 4GB for time being), different around plus minus 10fps or maybe 20% in performance, but in term of money different around RM800. Any opinion guys?

Any opinion guys? The 970 for best bang for the buck. I weigh this option as well before making my purchase and also asked for advice here. Couldn't bring myself to blow 100% more of my budget for 20-30% more performance. And mainly I only game in 1080p at 60hz, it made even less sense. I rather blow the additional funds into a kickass monitor to take advantage of my 970. If I rally wanted to blow money, I rather wait for the 980 Ti if it comes with 8GB rams. Just sometimes play Assassin, The Sims, Racing Games etc only. If like this maybe I'll go for Asus strix only.If I rally wanted to blow money, I rather wait for the 980 Ti if it comes with 8GB rams. |

QUOTE(PsychoHDxMachine @ Nov 5 2014, 10:20 PM) I'll choose 970, just consider which brand is better only. I bought the Palit GTX 970 Jetstream (cheapest with 2 fans). Thank God no coil whine and the fan is really quiet unless it's spinning above 70%. Surfing web or just idling, the fans do not run at all unless I start up my MSI Afterburner which has some minimum fan speed I set up.Yes, same here. Play game in 1080p # working life here, not really focus on gaming. Just sometimes play Assassin, The Sims, Racing Games etc only. If like this maybe I'll go for Asus strix only. To be honest, I'm new to this "no fan running" while idling and I'm always nervous the fan will not start in time when I start gaming. Which is why I always set my MSI Afterburner profile to start the fans when the temps are 40°C instead of the default 60°C I believe. Overall I love the card but I really despise GeForce Experience app. If only I can separate the Shadowplay component from it, it would be ideal. However, be aware that the new 900 cards, SLI is really not ideal at the moment. Check out the GeForce forums at all the frustrated posts of SLI users. Also it seems a lot of cards including those from higher end card manufacturers are suffering from coil whine issues. Make sure you go through them to filter which card you think you will have less problems with. It's still not perfect yet and the drivers really need some more work. So far only 3 drivers has been released since the cards introduction. If you try to install old drivers (pre 344.11), it will not recognize your card.
