if that is the case, then wouldnt the price be extremely high?  shocking.gif  shocking.gif

Nvidia doing it again, not surprised laugh.gif Look at the prices of their current GTX 780 and 780 Ti, although the R9 290 and 290X are trading blows and sometimes faster you can buy AMD cards at much cheaper price (R9 290X can be fetch as low as RM16xx brand new). The only thing good for this Maxwell is higher efficiency. If this is going to be a hard launch with immediate availability its going to be in short supply, hence the massive price hike

everytime when i tried to get GPU, whenever i saw the price of nVidia, im really clenching my teeths feeling wanna beat someone up....  mad.gif
but when i looked at AMD's offerings, they are good for the bucks, but their drivers are *sigh....*  doh.gif  doh.gif

so it is really excruciatingly painful when wanna get cards from the green camp...  doh.gif
*
When is the last time you use AMD cards? Their driver is pretty much as good as nvidia driver. Just sold my R9 290 btw, reason is my 620W PSU cant handle it. Still, its the best card I ever used and the driver is stable. No games I throw at it that it cant handle

Your PSU couldn't handle it? hmm.gif Hmm..

It can actually, but on very intensive games like Crysis 3 the PSU fan starts to become very loud. Never happen before.

If anyone wants GTX 780 Ti on cheap there are several on Garage Sales now laugh.gif I don't know why the bother, they basically trade blows so it's not really an upgrade, unless you really want that extra 1GB of RAM

If you fancy heavy overclocking or just want nice-looking cards then buy the custom cooled cards, if not (like most of the guys here with locked CPU and dull looking cheap mobo) you'd better off with the reference cards.

AMD is cutting more prices, it's crazy since R9 290X and 290 is already cheap. 290 second hand can be fetch nearly the same price as HD 7970 or 280X, while brand new 290X is close to GTX 970 and second hand around RM1.2k. Amazingly good value cards, the performance of R9 290 cards are simply amazing, if you got a PSU and cooling for it.

ha..ha... then let them dump their "old" pets....then looking a brand new one to play with..
The only thing is: Don't see any real logic in this selling mania. GTX 980 is only slightly faster than a reference 780 TI.
for those already on a 780 TI, it's best to wait for the next one, perhaps a card based on the yet to release GM210

*
Yup I already say this on previous page. If you can afford GTX 780/Ti in the first place you have sufficient power for it so there are no reason to buy these card because at most it's just a sidegrade more than upgrade, it's a successor for GTX 770/680 NOT GTX 780/Ti. If anyone mentioned overclocking it's a moot point. This card is fast enough for single monitor unless you ran multimonitor or 4K.

its now still worth to get the gtx 780ti or wait for gtx 980?
saw people selling 2nd hand 1 week used gtx 780ti only at rm1.8k...dilemma...
*
Go get it. As long as you got good PSU to power it it's better to buy it since it's cheaper.

As far as i know there is no reference cooler (aka Titan cooler) for GTX970
*
Yup there is no reference cooler for 970. And even on the one on 980 is not the same as Titan, it just look like one but instead of vapor chamber it uses 3 heatpipe cooler

so basically , i dont need to wait anymore for a reference edition ? i mean in near future or future , or i just go ahead and just buy Zotac 970 ?
*
If you want to wait you can wait, but why wait for something that doesn't exist? If you waited for this so-called reference cooler that looks like pictured below then possibly some manufacturer like Leadtek making one, but take me on this that cooler absolutely sucks, it can't even cool GTX 760 properly. I bet it won't be any cheaper than Zotac one as well. If you wanted that look like GTX 980 cooler forget about it, have you seen GTX 760 with GTX 770 PCB and cooler?

290 to 970? How much performance gain there? Erm.. Max 10% u get? Worth it meh hmm.gif

You forgot lower power consumption, lower temperature, higher overclockablilty. And SLI scales better than CF in most games.

I called CZone Digital Mall yesterday to ask about GTX 970 availability and they say no stock on all model, earliest ETA is next week but I gave them my phone number just in case. This afternoon I get whatsapp from him saying that MSI is in stock, and only one. Other brand still no stock. So I reserve it and get it tonite.

Just got it, I guess I am lucky to get it as its extremely rare. Will post some pics when I get back home.

Yup the sticker is damn sticky, wonder why they put such tough sticker on top of it. I don't have any issue though. Maybe the fan stuck in high RPM is related to driver. When I bought the card even the sales guy says I need to download latest driver. It's rare sales guy knows this thing.

GTX 970 performance simply blows my minds away. I thought R9 290 is fast, this thing is even faster for similar price.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Oct 6 2014, 06:17 PM)
I'm not having this issue actually as I set my fan speed manually at 30% idle and have a profile for 60% above 65c. So as long as the fans do not automatically switch off and on, it isn't an issue.

I do however, see the issue as the fans turning off under 60c is an advertised feature. An advertised feature which is not working means that it is fake advertising, plain and simple.
Apparently this only affects the first and second batch of GTX 970s though. The third batch onwards (Nov manufacturing date) seems to have this issue fixed.

One other issue is that there are more and more reports popping up now that the MSI GTX 970 has terrible coil whine. Now just to be clear, pretty much every GTX 970 has coil whine. Some worse than the others, but the MSI now seems to have the worse coil whine reports but that's simply also because the MSI GTX 970 has sold the most.
Previously on their GTX 770 Gaming, the sticker they had on the fan was not strong enough and overtime (about 7-8 months average), it will start to peel (just like their stupid warranty sticker on the back).

There will be a new BIOS fix for the 970 in a couple of weeks that should fix the fan speed issue though.
Unless you are planning to overclock the 970 like a nutcase, get the Strix. That ridiculous cooler on the Zotac Omega is a turn off, IMO.
*
I have a bit of coil whine, it's not as bad as other card I previously use. It's more of a low pitch and not very loud so it's not really noticeable. The fan turn off at idle really annoys me, and I don't want to use MSI Afterburner to change to custom profile fan speed so I slap a big 120mm fan at the back of the card.

I read before that removing the warranty sticker doesn't really avoid the warranty, but that was on the other forum so I don't know how it affect in Malaysia.

Done some test on how far my card could be overclocked, I use 3DMark11 Extreme preset. On pure memory side (core not overclocked) it can reach +500MHz (2003MHz, or 8012MHz effective) but like reported it doesn't give huge framerate increase (3DMark score only increase ~100 points). On the core side (memory not overclocked) even with low ASIC Quality of 65.8% it can reach 1503MHz with stock voltage, I just raised the power target to 110%. 3DMark scores increase ~500 points. Impressive.

How hard to pull the damn sticker? One stupid things MSI did is to glue the middle bit where the sticker meet the fan center. That is where people damaged the fan. If they don't this thing won't happen

Is there anything you not happy with your current card? If performance you look for yes 970 is way faster than it.

hi, im looking for used nvidia gc for my build soon.
now considering gtx 680, 760 and 760 ti.
which is the best bang for the buck?

will playing bf4, ac4, crysis 3 at 1080p
*
Depends how much you want to bang your buck. Obviously the fastest card is GTX 680, followed very closely by GTX 760 Ti (basically GTX 670 rebadged) and GTX 760 is the slowest one with the least stream processor count.

Better buy GTX 680, why? GTX 760 Ti is fast, but because its available to OEM only it uses crappy noisy and not very efficient cooler. You can fetch a good one at Garage Sales.
