I don't think so bro. Reliable sources told me that the word "Computer" in the Dept of ECE means that they are focusing on communication and control systems, and robotics.

They have nothing to do with Computer Science or IT. Perhaps you can check out this website.
http://www.ece.nus.edu.sg/research/

But I am very sure the School of Computing do have Security-related research under Computer Science. Check out this website.

Yup, it's stated in their admission requirement that international applicants have to submit GRE score.

But it is always best to check with the admission office about this issue.

I have sent an email to the School of Computing about this query and see what they have to respond.

Will keep you updated.

Respected Madam Loo,

A Malaysian friend of mine is interested to apply for a PhD position in the Dept of Computer Science.

It is stated in the SoC website that international applicants have to submit a GRE test score along with the application.

He has never sat for any GRE exams (or any other English exams, for that matter).  However, the university that he graduated from uses English as the medium of instruction.

Can he be exempted from submitting a GRE test score together with his application?

Hope to receive your reply soon.

Thank you.

Dear Madam Loo,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Will submitting without GRE/TOEFL affect his application chances?

Thank you.

Hi there, I'm just an SPM-graduate, university would still be a long way ahead but it's good to have a picture of what I'd get myself into, so here's a question:

What are the requirements to read Physics at NUS, for an A-Level/STPM student? Do I need 4.0 for STPM or 4A* for A-Level? Thank you.

Hello!
I can't tell if you're guaranteed to get into NUS for physics major with 4.0 or 4A*, but you definitely stand a very high chance to be accepted with such results. For my academic year (2013-14), I think almost all of us who come from A Level background scored 4A*. smile.gif
However, this may differ from year to year as we do not know how A level marking standard varies every year. biggrin.gif

Just do your best and you are the best. Wishing you all the best!

Hi, I'm applying for universities using my forecast A-Level's results (sitting for A2 exams in June this year) but the NUS page states that SAT is required D: (I also applied for NTU which doesn't require so). Does that put NUS out of my university options? Any light on this?
*
Hi there smile.gif . Since you're using your forecast A-levels result for your application with the actual results being released after the application deadline...you would have to sit for SAT as stated in the application requirements. However, if you are really intending to study in NUS, you can apply for it next year and use this gap year to discover your interests, check for the courses you intend to take, work part time, apply for scholarships etc. What's most important is that you know what you want. smile.gif All the best!!

Currently I'm 'simpanan lantikan' in SPA. If there is any vacancy, they will open to the reserves first.

For the PhD application, I'll be applying using my Masters as my degree is second class upper only:

1st Master: 3.44
2nd Master : 3.87 (Expected to get 3.89 or 3.90 by the end of May/June 2014)

My degree is above 3 but so so only. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Yup, coursework liao. The current theses already make me almost puke to read over 60 journals and books within few months. I didn't know what will be awaiting me once I step in into research degrees.

Btw, if I got the call to the SPA or other good jobs prior of receiving offer from any universities, I'll proceeds with plan B, Master of Philosophy in UM/UKM for a preparation to research world. On the third year onwards, I'll attempt to 'jejilat' my boss or higher level bosses to allow me to take sabbatical/unpaid leave to proceeds with PhD study. Or I'll just quit if I got scholarship/funds.

I'm not exactly sure whether there are any Malaysians getting Pharmacy last year using Cambridge A levels(we do have SAM and SG A levels though) but there are a few 2 years ago. You will stand a chance if you obtain good results in your A levels. All the best smile.gif
