Hello fellow Malaysian applicants! If you have any questions on application details, result anxieties, selection tests/interviews or anything about NUS, feel free to ask us here! There are seniors here to help answering your questions. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Just a few pointers here:

Scholarships are available for you to apply for in NUS. One of them is the ASEAN Undergraduate scholarship, which you'll be considered for based on your results you've submitted, so you don't need a separate application. If you've applied to NUS early in November or before that, chances are that you might have already been called for an interview sometime in January, even if you have not received your offer for admission yet. If not, the second round of interviews will be sometime in May. Remember this is dependent on their assessment of your application!

A second scholarship is the Singapore scholarship, which I believe have already opened their applications. More information is available here
http://www.scp.gov.sg/content/scp/sc...holarship.html

About application outcomes, the time period it takes for you to receive them will differ! So do not get jittery if your friends have received their offers and you haven't. Chances are that it'll come soon!

Do post any other questions you have. We have a big Malaysian family here at NUS who are always ready to help! smile.gif

Do I need to take TOEFL and GRE if I would like to purse PhD in Computer Science? Both of my Master degrees are taught entirely in English.

Thank you

Hello!
As we are a bunch of undergraduate seniors here to facilitate the application process of the Pre-U grads, we aren't sure about the exact details about PhD. However, you may refer to the link http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/graduates/m_application.html

Further enquiries can drop an e-mail to NUS School of Computing where the contact details can be found here:
http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/home/contactus.html

Thank you for your question and I hope this helps!

Hi there, I'm just an SPM-graduate, university would still be a long way ahead but it's good to have a picture of what I'd get myself into, so here's a question:

What are the requirements to read Physics at NUS, for an A-Level/STPM student? Do I need 4.0 for STPM or 4A* for A-Level? Thank you.
*
Hello!
I can't tell if you're guaranteed to get into NUS for physics major with 4.0 or 4A*, but you definitely stand a very high chance to be accepted with such results. For my academic year (2013-14), I think almost all of us who come from A Level background scored 4A*. smile.gif
However, this may differ from year to year as we do not know how A level marking standard varies every year. biggrin.gif

Just do your best and you are the best. Wishing you all the best!

waliao.. just after one sem and my friend lost her place @ pgpr... how come, only 1 sem... residence placement should at least be an annual affair not semester basis...

she has appealed but does anyone know anyway that can help?
*
sad.gif is she doing graduate studies? Cos PGP gives priority to undergraduate students instead of graduate students. Or, could it be that she did not pay for the deposit to continue her stay on second semester last time?

Try to appeal again. May I know, is she staying out campus now, or anywhere in the campus? smile.gif

btw, any 1 know how to get one of the incubator bungalows? for ppl under their entrepreneurship program right?
*
Yeah, there's only one GSA block for grad students in PGP. So do you mean that she's applying for next semester stay in PGP? smile.gif

Yup, the incubator bungalows are for NUS Entrepreneurship Society students. Do they have people staying there? I thought they usually hold their meetings or activities in that unit. laugh.gif

Hey, do early applicants stand a better chance to be shortlisted than those who apply few days before the deadline. Will both of them stand an equal chance of being selected or the admission favours those who applies earlier??
*
Hey there, there isn't such thing as first come first serve for the admission application. biggrin.gif So everyone stands an equal chance on getting selected. By right they shortlist applicants all the way until June. Just be patient and maybe apply for some other uni/scholarship applications at the meantime (if you have alternative choices other than Sg)! wink.gif

*
Can you try to retrieve them from your secondary school? It's better to include them tho. smile.gif At least for PMR and SPM trial results. If you really really couldn't at all then at least submit your PMR and SPM results slip. smile.gif

Wanna ask regarding submission of documents.

I've got an email that states

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Does this mean I have to scan my document, print it out to write my details on the top right corner, and scan it again? Or is this only meant for submissions via post?
*
Yeah. That's what exactly I did for ONLINE submission. It's quite troublesome to do, but this definitely doesn't violate with what they stated there right? smile.gif

Hi there!
Hmm, the Malaysian Students' League is sort of an unofficial "society" in NUS. smile.gif
It is just a platform to gather the Malaysians in NUS to bond, make friends and provide a home away from home. smile.gif
We welcome any Malaysians or Malaysia-related people (sorry for such layman terms) to join us! biggrin.gif

OMG guys, I just checked my NUS application status today.

Finally it became :
Application status

The general stages for the application status are
Application received --> Application processing --> Outcome of application

Your current status is Your application has been processed..

SO FAST! Hopefully is an acceptance! sad.gif

P/S : 'Has been processed' means they already have a decision right?! Results will be out soon right??
*
Yeap. Probably you're in the first batch of applicants where NUS start to select students! icon_rolleyes.gif
Keep your fingers crossed! All the best to you.
For the other applicants who are still waiting, don't give up! smile.gif Your application will be most likely reviewed by NUS after they are done with first batch of selection. smile.gif

Application status

The general stages for the application status are
Application received --> Application processing --> Outcome of application

You have been offered Arts & Soc Sci in academic year 2014 - 2015.
The details of the offer will be stated in the offer letter.
Your letter of offer was sent on 01-Apr-2014.
Please reply here by 10-Apr-2014.

Even though I really hope to get into Science  (my first choice) to do mathematics, but I am equally happy with FASS (my second choice) too. Cause I love economics as well tongue.gif

Btw guys, another question is am I free to choose any subject as my degree in Art & Social Science? Or they will choose for you?
*
Congratulations! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Yes, NUS will not choose for you and you'll have to declare your major yourself when class starts, don't worry about that! smile.gif

See you in NUS? biggrin.gif

Just the thoughts of an idealist, but don't do what you have no passion for. Plus, remember that studying in Singapore is extremely demanding. You might burn out if you lack genuine interest.

Agree! Personally speaking, I agree with the fact to go for the course you will not regret doing. smile.gif rclxms.gif

HELLO everyone!

I am sorry that we had idled for quite some time due to sitting for final examinations! But it's all over now so we're back! *wooohooooo* rclxms.gif

Anyway, there are some updates I would like you fellow (potential) juniors to know: smile.gif

Welcome Tea-s
According to the Office of Admission, those who have received an admission offer would be invited to the welcome tea! There would be one at Penang on the 10th May (Sat), one at KL and JB on 17th May (Sat). Since the admission offers are not completed yet, that doesn't mean you're rejected if you have not gotten an offer. Remember, PATIENCE is the key! smile.gif

During the welcome tea-s, we, the seniors from MSL will be there as student helpers. We will be sharing about lives in NUS and anything that you would like to know about NUS during the welcome tea, so do come over to find out more! smile.gif Of course, you can ask us right here too, but we prefer to see you and talk to you FACE TO FACE! biggrin.gif

However, we were told to promote NUS as an international university so we would not be talking about MSL or the orientation programme that we prepare for you guys (UFO 9) during the welcome tea, but you can ask us about it personally or through forum threads! We will be more than happy to tell you more about it! laugh.gif

ON A SIDE NOTE, we do exist! UFO 9 is still an ongoing thing despite we wouldn't be talking about it during the welcome tea-s!

We (MSL) are a voluntary (though unofficial) group of student body consisting of Malaysian students who organize events to bond / have interaction among the Malaysian students. One of the events, UFO 9, serves as an orientation programme to help the incoming freshmen (Y'ALL ARE OUR TARGETS!!! tongue.gif) and seniors to mingle and gather. Apart from making new friends, we will be having bonding activities, sharing sessions on some NUS stuff, necessities such as opening of bank account, places to get cheap groceries... and also tour around Singapore! All in all, our aim is to provide a "home" for the Malaysian students in NUS! notworthy.gif The best part about it is that it is entirely free! Soooooo do come and join us, the link to sign up is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1raGxPjh9y8...1msddc/viewform

For more info, do like and visit our FB page regularly, we will be posting updates more frequently now onwards as exams are over! smile.gif https://www.facebook.com/msl.ufo9

SEE YOU AT THE WELCOME TEA! icon_rolleyes.gif

*
The welcome tea is a session to provide some info about NUS to the undergraduate freshies, speakers will mainly be talking about the experience, expenses and how is it like in NUS. As stated above, do come and find out more! We would like to meet you too! laugh.gif

Regarding postgraduate studies, I am not really sure, perhaps he/she can visit the Office of Admission (OAM) during office hours? smile.gif http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/

Do you mean things like counselors stand by in the office and wait for students to approach them?
I am not sure too, but I think so because I'd passed by the office and there are staff inside, probably they are the "counselors". tongue.gif

Anyway, OAM is located at University Town, you can refer here for the direction. smile.gif

Hey Eric! I was just wondering about the date of the UFO9's date, it falls on the 14/7/2014 to 21/7/2014?

Why is it so early one? I thought the term only starts at 4th of August. Moreover I think that the QET test is on 17th of July if I'm not mistaken.
*
Hey there, it is a very good question! icon_rolleyes.gif
Basically, we purposely make it this early to overlap with your QET test so that y'all wouldn't have to travel twice to Singapore for orientation programme and also for QET test.

It may sound really early as you guys aren't familiar with the orientation camps in NUS yet. smile.gif
Faculty orientation and hall orientation (if you're applying to halls) will be held somewhere in the end of July, which is just days after MSL UFO 9. Of course they aren't compulsory, just that if you're interested to join the camps then you wouldn't miss them even joining our orientation programme! biggrin.gif If we hold the orientation at a later date then it might clash with these other orientation camps, and you guys wouldn't have enough buffer time to familiarize yourself in NUS before starting your term here. smile.gif

thumbup.gif Do join us! Do tell your friends who are coming to NUS about it and come for orientation together-gether! biggrin.gif
