QUOTE(bb100 @ Feb 18 2014, 12:19 AM) Let me summon another NUS Ph.D student, exquisite_markas. Yea. Your application will be stronger if you already have a potential supervisor. Some more during the interview, the interviewers will ask u whether you sudah contact you punya supervisor. Tak payah draft letter panjang2 bro. A few lines to intro yourself and your intentions, a few lines to describe you punya research interests, and finally ask him if he is looking for Ph.D students. Senang je bro. Lepas tu tunggu reply. Thanks for the tips . Btw, do I need to write official letter - following some format and standard (attached it through email) or just a normal email?

QUOTE(Irzani @ Feb 18 2014, 01:22 AM) Another tips bro, don't forget to point out your research interest, as well as your strong points. Potential supervisors will not feel too excited to read a "blank" email. You also have to do some homework first. Google your potential boss' name and see what is he up to recently. One accurate way is to look at his/her recent publications.

This is not applicable to NUS SOC where PhD students are admitted without pre-assigned supervisors. They will look for supervisors only when they have started their PhD studies. Some professors even require you to do well in some courses (especially those taught by them) before agreeing to supervise you. The admission committee most probably does not expect you to make contact with the professors but it would not hurt at all to take advantage of this.

Btw, do I need to write official letter - following some format and standard (attached it through email) or just a normal email?      Just a polite e-mail will do. In some cases, attaching resume and academic transcripts would be very useful. This post has been edited by XterNalz: Feb 18 2014, 07:38 PM

Hi, I'm applying for universities using my forecast A-Level's results (sitting for A2 exams in June this year) but the NUS page states that SAT is required D: (I also applied for NTU which doesn't require so). Does that put NUS out of my university options? Any light on this?

How about GRE and TOEFL/IELTS? Is it mandatory?

Since my research interest is in cyber security, perhaps I should left some interest notes in his personal files or deface it to gain his attention. Thank you for the tips sir

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineeringbb100exquisite_markasTQ I don't think so bro. Reliable sources told me that the word "Computer" in the Dept of ECE means that they are focusing on communication and control systems, and robotics. They have nothing to do with Computer Science or IT. Perhaps you can check out this website. http://www.ece.nus.edu.sg/research/But I am very sure the School of Computing do have Security-related research under Computer Science. Check out this website. http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/research/
