QUOTE(Download BitComet)

QUOTE(after install BitComet)
1. Limit your upload
For 512k user, limit it to 15kBps
1M user can limit to 30kBps
2. Portforward and allow BitComet connection in firewall
3. Enable Protocal Encryption (although it is not very useful...)
QUOTE(question about BitComet)

FAQ by P2P forum - Best FAQ in here

How to Configure BitComet for the Best Possible Speed
Public vs. Private Trackers
A trouble shooting guide

About the XP SP2 connection limit, use latest version of BitComet can solve this problem by
Preferences > Advanced > TCP/IP Limit
at there, set your 'New Half-Open Limit' higher than 10 (recommend set to 50)

For the Max Simultaneous Half-Open TCP connections settings under Preferences > Advanced > Connection. It will be "Auto". For BitComet, it usually mean '10'. However, if you experience any slow surfing or online gaming, you can lower that value (recommended '8'). but if you didnt have any surfing or online gaming problem, and download speed in BitComet is slow, then you can try to set it to a higher value.

Resume download after change version is an easy job. usually, the task can be continue after you upgrade or downgrade version. But if you cant find the task, try open that torrent again, and save it in the same location as previous version, and choose "Download later"
at this time, hash-check again should do the trick

If you want to resume download using another client, you can try to remove the .bc! extension OR change the incomplete file extension to the other client "incomplete download file extension"...
open that torrent with the another client, hash-check again...and enjoy your download with new client!!!

QUOTE
If anyone experience slow internet browsing when using bitcomet, but the line didnt have any problem
then you may try these step
1.) Limit your download speed OR upload speed OR both
if this cant help....
2.) Reduce the value of "Max simultaneous half-open TCP connections"
set the value to any value that lower than 10, personally suggest 8...
if the value is "Auto", then make it to 8
IF, still cant help
Last, and is also the Best solution
3.) Disable the "DHT Network"

I personally don't think it is bitcomet problem. What is your torrent seed and peer for each download ?

Depends on your Bitcomet configuration as well. Newer versions might auto-config differently (eg number of max global connections, connections per torrent, etc). And I give my thumbs up for uTorrent too! thumbup.gif

0.70 a little better ... it will set completed task to lowest priority automatically ... no nned to upload so many , then u will have higher dowload speed ...

version between 0.63 and 0.70 not so stable...

I don't think a particular bittorrent client will affect download speed much, aside from some differing connection protocol to trackers.

The speed is greatly dependant on the total bandwidth available smile.gif

i maybe didnt port forward...
coz all of my peers initiation is only "Local" or "NAT Traversal" only

dunno why it can like this......
maybe if i hv "local" and "remote" initiation both combination
it will be faster...

that 6GB file i dl very long time ago...
maybe aledi 2 x 99:99:99 = 200 hours
coz that speed is not always 20+kb/s...but sometime it reach 30+kb/s dl laugh.gif

guys, i'm using BT ver 0.60 and i found that the speed is very unstable...sometimes can shoot up to 30++kbps and sometimes zero...in just matters of minutes...btw, i'm using fibre optics here...(they have this huge LAN network throughout the whole residential area) and the download speed sucks big time...(worst than streamyx i must say..)

are there any ways to increase my download speed or surfing speed? i'm connected through a router...

holy shit 60kb/s! if like that download porn better. u mean if u set priority higher it does affect the download speed? in the windows firewall, if i add two ports for my bitcomet, one for TCP and the other UDP, is that one of the ways to port forward? i added the ports under the exception tab.

porn tend to have more seed because most of the user who share the file is either from US or Europe

where else those chinese movie tend to have kiasu ppl from asian who after download the movie will remove them from list, that why the speed suck big time, very few seed.

even i have done port-forward properly,i still getting the speed of 10k to 30,not that stable...but the overall speed is at 55k-60k with several task running together.

yes...you just delete the *.bc extension, load the original *.torrent file in uTorrent, and set where the file is currently dled...it will do the recheck and dl it after the recheck is done..

i read some info in the other forums, some clients can be set to ban BitComet users...?

That was mainly because of the faulty implementation of DHT in previous versions that caused some unfair situation to other peers.

It's remained banned in many private trackers still.

open Norton AntiVirus Option > Internet Worm Protection > Program Control
at here, remove ur "bitcomet" at there
then, "Permit" that bitcomet 0.70 warning

after this, Norton AntiVirus will not ask the same question again and again...

What I did is...

turn off nVidia's nForceware Firewall and Norton's Internet Worms Protection
set porfworwarding according to http://www.portforward.com/
set EXCEPTIONAL for Windows Firewall if I turned it ON

That's all and I didnt use other security application such as Zone Alarm.

I'm using bitcomet 0.7 i feel a very strange thing in this bitcomet,
it will slow down the bandwith speed after few hour ( not sure how long time )

let say i connected 218.xx.xx.xx then i ping ip ( example www.hinet.net)
then i get average 70ms

but after download few hour i ping again will get 300ms in same ip

is it like that ?

*streamyx download*
RM66/77 = 512 kilobits
RM88/99 = 1024 kilobits

8 bits = 1 byte

BitComet shows their speed according to byte, thus..

512 kilobits divide by 8 = 64 kilobytes
1024 kilobits divide by 8 = 128 kilobytes

kb = kilobits, kB = kilobytes

So if said 512kb line getting 100kB download is totally impossible, unless the line is miscapped or the numbers went wild tongue.gif

hmm...don't always come to conclusion that BC give you low speed.

have you check your router setting ? did you do your port-forward properly ?

any did you off your firewall ?

BC is the so far best of all BT software, its setting is simple and easy to understand.

i manage to squeeze my BC to the maximun speed of 65K at the most..but always maintain at 55k.still okay what

Today, my BitComet 0.70 fly at 100 KB/s for a whole whopping 1 hour++, then it dropped to around 90+ KB/s!

This is just the second day I'm using BitComet. Previously a Azureus user until it gave me auto-reboot-my-pc-whenever-I-start-Azureus problem. =)

Well, I've no prob with BitComet 0.70.. other versions, I've no comment, becoz I only used 0.70 before.. still a newbie. But I'm okay with it.. Evertime I download stuff.. max dl speed can go until 60-70KB/sec.. depends on the seeds and peers available too. Less seeds and peers ma less speed lo.. To make my download smoother.. I always limit the upload speed whenever my task is done about 30%.. I learnt this trick from a fren of mine.. When a task completed about 30%.. Limit the upload speed to about 15KB/sec.. then the upload speed will remain there, and dl speed will remain at its highest speed..

correct me if I'm wrong. still a newbie afterall ^^

Cheers.

the setting is more depend in upload speed...
although we are willing to downloading file
but in setting, it more depend in upload

set ur upload speed to 80% of ur upload speed
else you will be "chocking"
so, you can set ur max upload speed to 50kbps...
other, it depend ur bitcomet version
juz dun forget to set Advanced > Connection > Protocol Encryption (Avoid ISP block BT protocol)
in this option, set to "Always"
then it will be ok...

i think you can always limit ur upload speed to 80% of ur max upload speed
but not when completed 30% and set to 15kb/s
i set my max upload to 22kb/s
it remain to 22kb/s in everytime!!
why need to complete till 30% first?
and 15kb/s is too low la
it will make other ppl dl slow...

if you set ur upload speed higher, then ur dl speed also will be higher!

doesn't the download speed depend on the seed? more seed are willing to share, more download speed. I found out that latest tv series which have seed of 50 above tend to give me about 30-50kbs. Plus other slow2 downloads, usually around 60-70 also.

I'm using v0.59 and it got better this past month...before that was very bad. Can't even go past 5kb/s...

Now, can easily reach 90kb/s. I think it's partly bcoz of the Big NUT screw-ups and partially ur seed quality.

the p2p forum said that upload limit should put to 80% of ur max upload speed...
so, i put 25kb/s at first (256k upload x 80% = 25.6kb/s)
the dl speed... shakehead.gif
so, i try reduce it 1 by 1 and check for the best dl speed

then, 22kb/s is best in my pc
maybe different area have the different dl speed to us...
my fren didnt set his max upload speed (no limit)
but can have 60+kb/s dl speed!!

no 'remote' in the peer list means your connection is blocked or something. make sure that your port is open. and disabling the firewall in your modem doesnt mean your port is open. ;-)

Same here...
Never had experience like "oh version 0.64 is faster! version 0.65 is slower! version 0.70 is fastest!"

Once I've got the settings done correctly, the speed is always the stadard speed for my Streamyx package (in other words, 50-60KBps for RM66/mth line). It's not that I'll get 100KBps for a specific version of bitcomet.

Probably they said like that because so happen they use the particular version for slow torrents and the other version for faster torrents.

totally agree on that. i dont believe that newer/certain version is faster, unless the developer change the way the client download from other peers in that particular ver to make it dl faster. but i havent see any changes on bitcomet in the recent ver that can 'improve' speed.

For some of the seeds, the seeders outnumber peers, so that might be the reason that you DON'T NEED to upload that much.

Otherwise, it could be the problem of your ISP - unable to provide satisfactory upstream

USB eh? hmmm.. but not necessary everytime u shud get high speed..depends on the seeds + trackers and peers as well.. if ur speed is very low..then some problems lor.. for XP SP 2, u need to apply a patch to fix the simultaneous tcp ip connections...

Setting maximum connections to 999999999999999999999999999999999 doesn't mean your speed can go 50000000KBps sweat.gif It will just make your router unecessarily overloaded with connections

The person who instructed you to do that was either fooling you or just plain stupid (no offence)

if 1mbps, you can set to 100-150
512k usually set to 50-100

this is the setting that i think can work better......

I highly doubt that would happen as the connection limit of your modem would be a constraining factor. It's more likely that you would be getting connection timeouts instead.

Yes...my own IP.
Using router.
Can keep changin IP in http://192.168.1.1.

Sometimes 218.xx.xx.xxx .some times 219.xx.xx.xxx

The 13450 is the listen port of BitComet right?
Keep changing if we "Choose Random Port".

Download still slow though even I change Port to 24367 cry.gif
Never reach above 20kb...maintain 14kb...and now 6kb...worse.

No, I think that is your WAN IP

Look for your internal IP using ipconfig command.
Sometimes the internal IP changes everytime you reset the router, it's a good idea to set static IP

this is a worst version i ever installed. When I leave my PC for a night...it just close for unknown error (crash).. My experience was exactly same like yours.
You either use back the previous version or upgrade to the latest 0.70.

You can check
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...EU/BitComet.htm
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...ER/BitComet.htm
to see which one is it similar to.

For me I'm using an EW but it is fine even if i refer to the guide of EU since the GUI is the same.

p/s: i'm using ZTE 831 modem with 1 router since 3 pc is using internet at the same time.

DHT = Distributed Hash Txxxxx (forgot)
you are better enable it
but if you experience slow download on that file
then disable it while you download that file

Maybe it's your connection problem ... or port is being blocked.

from your screen-shoot

can see that you didn't do any port-forward in your router

even if you have 1000 peer,if you didn't set port-forward in your router..the speed still will be slow.

it's µTorrent, not U-Torrent

the site is http://www.utorrent.com/

any client needs portforwarding if you're behind a router/firewall

-----------------------------------------------------------------
my fren said to me that BitComet v0.57 is best
got fastest speed

then another fren said that "as long as it is not >v0.60, then it is better"

becoz of that, i use bitcomet 0.57
but the connect speed suck
so, i try the newest version, bitcomet v0.70
but the connect speed is getting slower
then i downgrade it back to 0.57

after that, i try v0.63, it get more speed than v0.57!
even got 20kb/s dl speed when at afternoon! (if use 0.57, juz around 10-15kb/s dl speed)

now, im confused about the bitcomet version
wat version you all use, and wat version do you think that can get the highest speed?
*
crap! version does not affact the DL speed.
all you need to do is look for "local seeder", as many as possible, this is the key in high spped DL.

So in BitComet 0.71, which the Option configure the TCP/IP is located..
Option > Preference > TCP/IP Limit.

AND DO NOT USE IT TO MODIFY YOUR SYSTEM FILE!!

It would crash your TCP/IP System File and windows couldn't detect your connection in the Network Card.

I know this topic suppose to open in Technical or Software Section.
BUT most users are BT hardcore in here and most using BitComet though.

HERE the 0.71 version is about the new design.
Inside got an option which could modify the TCP/IP system file by setting the 'TCP Half-Open Limit'.

I know, some people are using that a FIXED TCP/IP patch which is hot spreading in the Website and run it just edit the System File in the Dos Mode thing.
But recently, that thing is not allow to run anymore for the UPDATED WinXP SP2 or those PC with newest WinXP installed.

So here is what my experienced.
Story... ... ... ...
Yesterday i was upgraded to 0.71, i found that the TCP/IP option!!
i felt "wow this is make much easy for me." I go and make changes... back problem appear.

I tried everything out, firstly i though it was Router F up!! and i checked NO! is not, i even had OPERATION to my PC!! but things is fine!...

Today i have formatted my PC, everything back to normal. After that the problem come back again~ i'm shocked!! tried everything and check, i'm thinking "it's virus?!"

After 6hrs checking, that i realize is this TCP/IP thingy!!
Because the most early program installed and configure is BitComet 0.71 and the TCP/IP Setting as well.
Problem occur will make log into the EVENT VIEWER and those Logs would keep saying the SSDP Service started and stop, TCP/IP is failed to Initialize.

here the Event ID code... 7000, 7001, 7036.
Story Finish, this is what happening to me. And share with you guys!!
So please dont risk to try it guys ~~"

Dont open fire to me hor... if i make mistake.
Sorry for Little boy's BAD English.

no wonder my modem go blank...

I've used the lvllord thingy, nothing seems to bother.

But the BC 0.71 really got the Half open TCP/IP setting, so, should I let it be 100, or back to 10, or is there anyway to make it an AUTOMATICALLY configured settings by BC?

haha!! laugh.gif
in the bitcomet website statd that bitcomet v0.70 is the "Last Stable Official Release"
but not bitcomet 0.71
i think v0.71 is still the beta test stage
maybe need 2 more month to fix all the bug
and make it stable...

Sry for asking a noob question here. But yet it is still related to bcomet. I subscribe streamyx 1mbsp RM88 package. I did some research which many ppl can blast their dl speed to 80 - 90 kb / sec. BUt mine normally will stay in between 5 - 10. Same package subscribe but so much difference?? I think thats imposible. SO i jz wana ask u guys what kind of solution for me to reach that speed??

Hi..anyone can help on this?
May i know why i couldn't run Morpheus and Bitcomet 0.70 at the same time.
The donwload speed of Morpheus will be dropped immediately until 0 after i run Bitcomet in my pc.
However, the speed will be running at normal after i close the bitcomet application. Any idea ???

====================

I also having the bitcomet speed problem. It seems like the speed will be very slow started from evening. i read the thread in low yat but still not sure what is the problem. Anyone know about it?

==============================

i have tried to do port forwarding for my P2P applications Bitcomet , Morpheus and Emule. Unfortunately, it seems didn't take effect on them. any suggestion how to make the best configuration for those P2P application.

Thanks for the reply.

hurm, fyi, the preview thingy will never work...(it dont work for me too)..one tip for u to preview the file, copy the downloaded file (whether it's completed or not, just copy) n then, go to Folder Options and go to "View" tab.. untick the "Hide extensions for known file types" menu. Erase ".bc" extension for BitComet n u will see it with the extension that it should have. Eg: "Hahaha.avi.bc!" to "Hahaha.avi" Got it? Then play using normal player.

Yea tat method works but for imcomplete d/l b prepared for lots of disturbance or inteference in the video.......As for the file d/l problem, either wait for more seeds to come online n seed, or try d/l another file but with more seeds

Please make sure the % you download isn't like 30% or 50% at least 80%.
Sometimes if your first piece of the video haven't complate yet , you wouldn't be able to view
Try vlc palyer if you want to try.

the effect is same when you open it with media player classic......
without change the extension name

if that movie stuck at that percentage and didnt hv seed anymore
then you better find another seed...

i remember for bitcomet ver 0.57, many sites block their usage coz they pretend to forward packets when they actually don't. there was a patch that prevent this from happening so that bitcomet could be used on any site.

i was wondering, is the latest version still pulling the same trick and if so, is there any patch for this now? coz i tried to download a torrent and bitcomet tells me that the site blocked the downloads...

i wonder why some people still use bitcomet. i used to use bitcomet but stopped when i read many articles saying bitcomet have some loopholes that causes it to be blocked by many trackers last time. it also reports download speed that are actually not accurate, probably mixed it with the bandwidth used to find peers.

I'm not sure whether this problem has been asked before or not.

After an hour or so usage of Bitcomet, I can't surf using IE or Firefox. Is it common? I have to restart my laptop.

i suspect that that you have bad router. try disabling dht and reduce the number connection per torrent. this might help.

yaya
i change to v73 before
it seen that the most useful about 0.73 is it can scan for virus after dl

i think juz like that only
it still cant penetrate the TMnet traffic shaping......

i suspect that that you have bad router. try disabling dht and reduce the number connection per torrent. this might help.
*
Alright. Thanks.

I have disable the DHT. And put 150 connections per task. Trying out now.

Before all these, I only installed Bitcomet and used it without messing around with preference settings. No problem until I start messing with Connections per task

I've used 0.70 before but slow too.
You guys using streamyx bridge correct?
If we open the firewall (on our dial-up properties)..all sort of crap coming in.
If not, speed slow.

well, Quick Launch isnt Taskbar isnt System Tray, Quick Launch is those single icon (normally, show desktop, IE etc), Taskbar where those active/inactive application running while System Tray is where our system clock, date and other notification.usually, when i minimized the BitComet, it'll straight went to system tray instead of taskbar, not quick launch wink.gif

isn't that is for all the initiation all "local" ??
im all "remote" wor~~

is it same???

if both port forward and firewall rules u have set ok, should hav a mix of remote and local, then only we can get gain of speed as we will have both side instead of just 1 side of local/remote...

we cannot expect much since they have did shape and throttle our speed....! i can say this is confirm for sure...they denied! of coz for "their reputation"

u see.....if ten of thousand user download at 1kb to 5kb/s......everyone will experience the same download and upload speed from others....so i think nothing to do with the bitcomment software version...

try right click on it and choose "save target as", that's how I get the file downloaded, but it's encrypted

Want to ask, is there anyway to prevent BC from connecting to DHT nodes. My line/router or whatever it is, will reset each time it connects to DHT nodes

I disable using DHT but it still connects each time i start BC...

Any way to do so? thanks

did you mean every time when you open BitComet, the Settings in Preferences always show it is connected??

if like that, you can go to BC folder, then look at the "BitComet.xml" file
make sure that it is not "Read-only"...

No, actually in the preference there it is disable for option "use DHT for backup tracker" or something like tht

But if u see at the BC window bottom, they got show DHT connected to how many nodes rite. Its those nodes I want to disable. meaning, make it dont connect to any DHT nodes at all..... and ya, somehow even when i didnt use DHT, those nodes still connect, which causes dc to my line.. so wondering if there's any way to force it dont connect to DHT at all...

thanks again biggrin.gif

if u r using BitComet 0.70, there are another 2 ways of disabling DHT:

1. Preferences... Advanced... Connection... (Uncheck the box infront of) "Enable DHT Network"

2. Right click on the task/torrent (when it's in stop/paused state) then click on Properties... Advanced... (Uncheck the box infront of) "Enable Public DHT Network"

although DHT can help you to get more bandwidth...

QUOTE
......they took advantage of increased bandwidth and hard disk capacity to provide a file sharing service.......

and sometime help you find more peer to increase the download speed...

but it may took up too much bandwidth...
and may cause some people hv connection problem...like surfing and online gaming...
therefore, if you experience any disconnection or lag spike while open bt with DHT, you are better to turn it off

As some old model routers can't handle too many simultaneous connections, which may lead to connection blocked (totally no connections allowed thru until some of them d/c out of too long idle time)... that's what happened to me last time when I was using DLink DSL-500G >.<

watever firewall you install
you also need to make it can go through that firewall

giving permission for BitComet to go through

nope, there is no setting at BC then u need to change (in fact all settings in BC doesn't have anything to do with watever firewall u using, it's mainly about connections and tasks). But u need to set allow in Comodo for BC.

limit ur bitcomet upload speed at 80% of your exact upload speed.

512kb/s /8 = 64kb/s (actually i get max 40-48kb/s from speedometer)

then use 40kb/s x 80% = 32kb/s as ur bitcomet upload speed.

if still cannot surf net, then uninstall the firewall. i hate it.

that 512kbps is download speed... sweat.gif
if you subscribe to 512k package
ur upload is 256kbps
then ur limit should be 256/8 = 32kbps
32 x 80% = 25.6kbps
then ur upload limit should be less than 25kbps

if you subscribe to 1M package, then you should limit to 38kbps

since that tmnet didnt provide us 100% speed, you should set to lower upload speed...
512k > 22kbps
1M > 32kbps

if limit upload speed didnt solve your problem, you can lower Max half-open TCP connections that can found in
Preferences > Advanced > Connection
you can set to 8 (default is 10)

if you still experience the same problem again
then you can disable the DHT
and restart the BitComet again

hope this 3 way can help calvin_gsc

Thanks guys for the suggestion. Will try it out.

The global download rate, I remain it as no limit?

Update: I have a 1Mbit connection. Applied the settings, and surfing lowyat always gives me timeouts if bitcomet is running.

32 x 80% = 25.6kbps
then ur upload limit should be less than 25kbps

if you subscribe to 1M package, then you should limit to 38kbps

since that tmnet didnt provide us 100% speed, you should set to lower upload speed...
512k > 22kbps
1M > 32kbps

*
for 512k package
set upload to 15,if you set aorund 22k..your download will get affected.
i have been using upload 15 for the 1 year liao..if tmnet didn't throttle the conenction, the download rate should maintain btw 55k to 60k

for 1M package
se the upload around 30k should be alright

if you are saying before tmnet throttle the line
my speed is stable at 55k to 60k (depend on certain torrent aslo)

sometime you just have to tweak here and there and see which outcome suit your system, but global upload set at 15k for 512k package should be just nice.

Thanks guys for the suggestion. Will try it out.

The global download rate, I remain it as no limit?

Update: I have a 1Mbit connection. Applied the settings, and surfing lowyat always gives me timeouts if bitcomet is running.
*
other that limit ur upload rate, what is the tcp simultaneous connection u set?? in connection... advance... section of bitcomet, try not to set too high (30% of the total number u set when u applied the tcp patch should b enough already)

another thing u can try is set ur bitcomet to lower cpu priority (it's "normal" for normal, try set it to "below normal" or "low", u can set this at task manager (ctrl+alt+del))

utorrent have to wait about 5 or 8 minutes to boost up the speed when u started the torrents.

Please set this:

Global Connection: 200-250
Connection per torrent : 100-120 (my setting)
upload speed: 32kb/s (if urs 1M package)
upload slots: 4 or 5
net.max_halfopen : let it default value of 8.

Protocol Encryption: set it to Forced.

and test if ur port forwarding correctly or not http://www.utorrrent.com/testport.php?port=xxxxxx (xxxxxx means ur port)

if can, please don double post next time
you are throttle
juz like many of us in here

the slow download issue aledi discuss long time in here

change to utorrent will not solve the problem becoz both BitComet and utorrent are also using the same concept...

any other program that will cause it also? or just whenever u run bitcomet?

as shown in the snapshot, ur BC didnt take tat resource? blink.gif

EDIT*

I'm testing with BC 0.75, having this prob:
file cant finish dl, even when it says to b finished but after hash check, it's actually still at 99.7%?? It's a bug or I should disable the "hash check again"??

i also experience this before
after downloaded a video and trying to play it
the video is incomplete...
then i hash check again, it is juz 96.1%

at that time, i think it is becoz im not enable the 'hash check again' option
then i go to enable it
not didnt got that kind of problem...

anyway, who used the 'Chat' function??
in 0.63, i still can chat with other people
but they juz didnt reply me
0.70 didnt found any people that can chat
but 0.75 didnt have the chat function!!!

62... and 21... is not malaysia ip

there also another way to make your BitComet show up-and-down download speed
maybe you running other downloading task

or maybe your router block your bt connection...
for example:
you limit your download speed to 30kbps. but in fact, you can go to 100kbps
then after a couple of minute or a few of hours
when you set your download limit to 'No Limit'
you will see your download speed go beyond 100kbps
sometimes can even see the no. to 300kbps!!!
then it go back to 100kbps...

PS: next time if write ip address, please write the first 2 or 3 no.
like 60.48.x.x or 218.111.208.x
if juz write down the first no.
we will not know which country connect using that ip
