So another year is gonna end. What fishing equipment did you regret buying this year? And what you should have bought instead?

As for me, I regret buying the Abu revo ltx. Should have just followed my heart and gotten the px68 instead which I eventually did.

regrets if any would be the Shimano scorpion XT, since I'm living in Sabah, not much of a hotspot for freshwater casting i'm afraid. shakehead.gif

Guys, I think the metal plate that makes the ting ting sound within my reel's drag knob is broken.

Any idea on where i can find a replacement plate ?

Shimano claims its saltwater-safe which requires more regular maintenance but from reports i've heard, its quite finicky in saltwater.Hope im wrong though

The PE special have adopted faster level wind to lay the PE line in such a way as to prevent the line digging into the spool. The rest are just cosmetic change.

D.A.M, Imperial fluorocarbon...cost me RM60++ for 20meters..broke at the middle, not snap/swivel lol..there was this incident, i hooked up a 2-3kg patin, and when the fish is right in front of me, it did a last dive and the line just broke, its a 40lb line i was using, and there was no structures or tree branches between the fish and the line (as it was so close i could still see the fish), and the line was still new when i got that fish. i would say it failed me on 3-4 occasions out of the total of 20meters, so that's kinda dissapointing i guess, even tomman line i used last time was better lol

what do u guys think of Shimano Curado G, 6.5:1 ?

How is the warranty goes ? I am buying an used unit, buyer told me he hasn't sign the warranty card yet.

So where do I send to if I need to claim warranty ? Kepong Tackle ? coz he bought it in Sarawak ?

that pond allow using multi hook bomb rig , so foul hook is expected

but what i wanna say is their bait is really powerful , if you bait aint good the fish wont even go near to the hook
so foul hook is out of the question.

if you ever try fish next to them you will know out of 10 fish maybe only 1-2 is foul hook
the rest are pure fish bite.....

what do u guys think of Shimano Curado G, 6.5:1 ?

How is the warranty goes ? I am buying an used unit, buyer told me he hasn't sign the warranty card yet.

So where do I send to if I need to claim warranty ? Kepong Tackle ? coz he bought it in Sarawak ?
*
Warranty is usually for manufacturing defects only. Doesn't cover mishandling and wear and tear. They will still charge you labor and parts.

Curado series is quite well-known. One of those work horse reels from the shimano family.

that pond cant really say which bait will work on that day, all i try also land fish before
just that sometimes you need to guess which bait is their appetite for that day.....

usually i bring all flavor , i and 2 more friend always make different flavor
to avoid being same , with 3 rod 3 different flavor see which 1 got more activity
then we know that day the fish tend to take which flavor.

if you dont want buy all , then go for the soya 1st

this week i m heading over , you wanna join me ????

Chronarch is an icast winner last year but the tatula type r is an interesting concept nontheless, but i suggest the tatula r then we can compare-

I don't really like the magnetic braking system implemented by Abu. The Daiwa magforce z and v system is vastly superior. Furthermore, Abu revo series has basically 0 resale value. Would take a shimano / Daiwa over Abu anytime.

Got tracking number. But it's not live like poslaju or FedEX or DHL. If you key in the tracking number right. It will show you it has been delivered. Period. No further information available.

Word of advise, never ever ever buy online if your seller is using UPS Mail Innovations. UPS Mail Innovations is equivalent to POS Malaysia a.k.a normal mail. Read a lot of reviews online only after I bought my reel. Should've checked earlier. Damn. Most of the Amazon seller uses UPS Mail Innovations. sad.gif

Not every time you will get taxed. They randomly pick from packages they suspect might contain taxable stuffs.

Btw Tatula R is rm500+ and chronarch is 600+ - 700+ locally. Gonna be interesting to compare both of them. Waiting for them to be in stock first biggrin.gif

custom check is usually done randomly.

fishing reel and rod is tax free, however, there are reports where if the reel exceed rm500, then it's taxable.

Yeah declaring it as a gift or warranty claims works but not all seller willing to do this, especially the ones in US. Not sure why but i think the penalty is quite serious. Chinese side will gladly declare as gift though laugh.gif

Bro OlgaC4,
Not so true on the RM500. Best you call your forwarding agents to find out the HS code.

I have brought in items more than RM5,000 without taxation due to the proper HS code declared.

The last time I went was about 1 year ago I think.

Tried all sorts of baits from bread, worms, fish pallets, buah keras, person beside us even used bananas. But everyone ate white fruit.

That time I went I didn't use the ground towfoo. Can't recall why. Most probably habits already. Haha. If not would've use the ground towfoo to bribe/bait the fishes over.

heya guys,

Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend. However, after doing some amount of solo expeditions, I've come across some what you would call as 'empty freshwater' ponds and lakes around KK which I've decide to 'adopt' as new angling haunts, provided there isn't any of them nuisance netters around.

a wide but shallow one, seems cool for snakeheads.

But before adding predators, just wondering if you guys know any suitable baitfish species. I wanna introduce some protein for the snakeheads but am quite stumped for choice. There's the humble koruk, tilapias and sepat, but do you guys know any local species that breed fast and shoal in big numbers? I know its a technical question, but i'm sure you guys can help me out with some pointers so i know woat to look out when visiting the local aquarium shop tommorow biggrin.gif

fishing in Australia! Happy days!

Missed that place! had heaps of fun during uni, fishing everything from black bream, tailor and squid at Freemantle. Alas, even after all this while, haven't scored a pink snapper yet! laugh.gif

dont forget to post your CR expeditions and share them with us here, watch out for drunks tho.

hmmm .. not used to seeing the holes not go all the way around
prefer that look
and they're applying that micro gearing .... which may not hold up well in the long run when subjected to hard fighting or running fish ... imho
pricing must be ... hehhehehehe

Bro OlgaC4,
Not so true on the RM500. Best you call your forwarding agents to find out the HS code.

I have brought in items more than RM5,000 without taxation due to the proper HS code declared.
*
Bro rorytate,

Did you declare the item less tham RM 500 ? I'm actually planning to bring in a reel from Japan this month but im wondering if i should include a HS code.

Would you recommend including a HS code and then declare the item less than RM 500?

haha cool, why dont you get a head mounted camera next? next time, you can get the full 3d mode action of casting lures and seeing the strike first hand.

btw, would you know where can i find LED UV light torches or flashlights in KL? they're called 'black lights', they'd be very useful to charge up my glow in the dark lures then i won't need to wait forever while using my standard LED head lamp which takes forever!

they look something like this

yeah majority of people here were from MFN also. Most of the oldies.

Prawn fishing...

1) Kota Damansara pro's prawn (tiger)
2) Bukit jalil (tiger)
3) Sentul (fresh water galah)
4) Bukit kemuning (freshwater galah)
5) Tropicana next to Damansara NKVE toll in a nursery (tiger)
6) few in Sg.Buloh need to goolge up.

I personally dislike Pro's Prawn Park in KD.. Tropicana the best for me..

RM500 is a good solid budget for good rods.
I would stay clear away from Basspara because its heavy and not sensitive.
Would rather spend another hundred to get the GoEmotion GEC-66ML/662ML for the better blank.

Fenwick has good rods too, see if you can get hold of the old Elitetech Small mouth model. its whippy!
Hmm some ProX rods would be good too but dont know where to start.

Ohh KD pro prawn isnt too bad when they first opened.... i was quite regular there with my friends those days.
These days kurang skit go pancing, honestly,.. i havent tried the blue jackets shrimps.
heard people say its bigger and fights better than tiger.
Also as for price,. i think galah most pricey and can go eat sang har noodles after fishing.
method of fishing about the same, either floater or bottom sink.

Dont like relix and eupro haha. Tried some fancy team seahawk rods, feels heavy and unbalanced, they even have 40% off the retail price laugh.gif

I need something cheap yet reliable. flex.gif

Was looking at the basspara haha. Yeah how do we test sensitivity of the rods in the shop? Flick the tip and feel how the vibration carries down the rod?

Where to find majorcraft rods locally? Fenwick i rarely see other models other than the eagle gt, bloody heavy laugh.gif

Basspara blank has high glass content, hen heavy and non sensitive.
Yes,. you need to scrape the tip on some surface and feel the vibes at the handle.
Eagle GT is the lowest end product, get the HMX lo... else there are so many other brands. RodFord also now gaining popularity.

Would also recommend Olyimpic Nuovo Bosco rods smile.gif but i need to order in for you if you keen.

i did almost went for the graphite leader calamaretti rods, but going too light can compromise the durability. Wouldn't dare hedge my bets after hearing many reports of breakage, if anything should go for either breaden or evergreen ( matai)

Yeah high glass/resin content makes it heavier but cheaper to produce. HMX is good? Hmm.

I would prefer if can get 7 feet at least, 2 pieces rod. already have a 6'6.

http://www.olympic-co-ltd.jp/enfishing/index.php/GLNBC-702H Would this be too stiff? cause its 12-30lbs. hmm.gif

heck would actually love to own one of every Olympic rod if i could afford.
Theres always that fear of paying so much for a rod and worry it will break smile.gif

HMX is much better than the Eagle GT imho
why would you need a 7ft casting rod? wanna cast far out on land base?
12-30lbs definitely too stiff unless you planning to catch some monster toman on landbase.
if you are going for an all purpose rod then a 8-20lbs would be best.

Hmm over 7 ft 2 pieces & medium power,. i can only thinking of Majorcraft Corkish or Volkey & Sky Road but those will set you back from RM550 at least to RM670

Will check the hmx out if i see one. Yeah casting from land base so need a longer rod, plus im going to use it for casting and bottom fishing.

Im only going to pair it with penn 965 so i dont need very expensive rod. My 6'6 St Croix has served me well for the past 14 years and still going strong, thinking of getting another St Croix but feeling abit redundant haha.

The Corkish and Volkey looks good but abit on the expensive side sad.gif The prices you quoted includes shipping to Malaysia?

Ohh KD pro prawn isnt too bad when they first opened.... i was quite regular there with my friends those days.
These days kurang skit go pancing, honestly,.. i havent tried the blue jackets shrimps.
heard people say its bigger and fights better than tiger.
Also as for price,. i think galah most pricey and can go eat sang har noodles after fishing.
method of fishing about the same, either floater or bottom sink.

Blue Jackets Shrimps where is that ? smile.gif

Price included of meeting up in klang valley if you are still in Cyberjaya smile.gif
Local rods ,.. hmm i may be wrong but it will be very difficult to find a medium power rod at 7ft and above.

Blue jacket.. do they have blue and yellow legs ?

The ones at Tropicana seem to have black & white and also blue & yellow type of prawns..

An uncle saw my hook yesterday and said it was the wrong hook for prawn fishing..

I bought it from a fish store and the packaging states shrimp/prawn/lobster , told me to get the ones that have a pre-weight to the hook..

I'm using a buoy system , so the line at the hook will have a weight and the buoy will balance it out to stay straight up.

He said that the pre-weight hook will stay straight in the water rather than my weight on the line at the end of the hook.

Do advice shocking.gif

black and white = tiger prawns, blue and yellow = udang galah.

I dont have much experience in prawn fishing but i believe pre weighted hook and hook with weight on top of the line does the same thing if the weight sits directly above the hook and not the knot.

pre weight at the hook will let the hook stay at the same place... while having the hook upright, when u have weight on the line ur hook will travel around..

pro and cons
prawn is lazy they do not swim like fishes u need to hunt them

Gonna get a shimano rarenium ci4+ 2500 first i think. Rods suggestion to pair with it?

What i saw that i think is reasonable

Fenwick HMG - 7' rm280
Shimano Amenista 7'2 RM340

Anybody got experience with these 2 rods?

Some major craft rods also seems nice like the ones suggested.

if going for some big game fishes,.. try avoid CI4 or Zaion bodied.
its just graphite,.. expect some flexing on the frame and body.

Guys, am just curious... if a shimano c3000 simply means 2500 size body + 3000 size spool, would a stella c3000 spool fit into a stella 2500 ?

went to OFBN with ah hon yesterday, wind was a little strong the whole day, sea choppy and, we broke ah hon's personal record... 0 catch the whole boat for the whole day, it's ZERO, not one bait fish, apollo not working, mantis prawns not working. moved to kapal karam at night, wave continue to be choppy, not a single bite there. my friend lost a jig to tenggiri in ofbn, my stupid power pro line failed once in ofbn, probably a jenahak. ah hon says power pro is the cheapest and unreliable line there is out there, anything cheaper than power pro is invisible to him lol...

pretty simple after :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4GCH6i5L2I

a little practice and we can get it in under 5mins or 10 if you want more loops
works well ... lines have snapped and hooks come undone when pulling snags but not at the knot

5lb PP to 14lb fluoro
15lb braid to 18lb mono
15lb braid to 40lb fluoro
tried it braid to braid even with the same results ... does not break or come undone at the knot

is it just me or all the videos o the knots are variant of FG knots?

Video by Einjahr is known as GT knot i think... i used this alot now rather than FG. the middle uni knot stops the line from slipping.

Video by OlgaC4 is FG knot.

GT knot if not done neat, might feel that lil bub going thru or sometimes stuck at the tip when retrieving in.

Yeah a little bit worried how the ci4 material would perform. Looking at sustain and twinpower too.

Sustain seems nice with the extra spool but the rotor is made of ci4 material hmm.gif

Twinpower looks excellent except for the price laugh.gif

400 deposit each hour u fish will cost u 100.. If u dont plan to take back some cash then u fish for 4 hours lor.. Because some anglers break the rule by fishing more then 3hour 15mins .. After 3 hour 15 mins u must pay 350.. And u will get back ur 50 from 400 deposit ..

heya guys, hows it going? hope everyone's fine~

And so I strolled off this morning to practice my noob baitcasting skills and while I was just practicing my casting, all of a sudden...twin strikes!!! First-ever snakehead license for 2014~ all catches released to fight another day!

user posted image
look at that shameless gleam

Day:clear skies-slightly overcast,
time:10:00-12 :00 a.m,
lure:rapala UL minnow (firetiger)
Reel:shimano CQ 51
rod:rapala sand.

damn..., no wonder snakeheads are a prime target, can't wait to start targetting bigger ones out there ( and all i knew this while was squid fishing)

btw, I want to ask a few questions about fishing with lures, i've decided on a battle plan: Baitcasters for freshwater and spinners for saltwater!

hey guys, can you pls recommend a good baitcaster setup for throwing light lures between 2-13grams? what poundage of leader/ mainline do you usually use? my conquest is currently loaded with 20lb braid and 17lb fluoro, hope that isn't two heavy.

also, whats a good setup for top-water(rod; leader; mainline; reel) lures like walk-the-dog, buzz baits, etc. do i really need a high-gear ratio spinning reel to do topwater? and what range of gear ratio for a spinning reel I should be looking at ? is 5:6:1 ok? or do i need to go 6:0:1?

isn't the CQ 51 enough to flick light lures? lol, just wondering about the mainline/leader setup..

with regards to the spinning, actually I already own a vanquish in the 5:2 gear ratio and a daiwa esmeraldas in the 5:6, would that be enough for walk the dog and top-water? or do i need to get another reel in the 6:1 and above ratio?

Ya.the cq51 its good enuff to flick light lure.
6lbs braided, 10lbs fc leader
Somehow for light weight lures below than 5gram i would prefer to use spinning reels.
All this while ive been using the antares (5:6:1) still manage to walk the dog smoothly.

Hey viox, thanks man... at least i can now rely on a general rule of thumb for ultralight;light;medium and heavy setups. But anyweis, heres a little something about my arsenal, hope its good to go!

UL Spinning
Reel:sephias c3000sdh ci4+
Rod:shimano bass-one 4-8lb
Braid:megabass purple 6lb braid
Fluoro:suffix 8lb

UL-light Baitcaster
Reel:shimano CQ51
Rod:rapala sand 6-12lb
Braid:15lb power pro
Fluoro:17lb suffix

Are these setups ok?

no squid in the water coz its full moon, so in the meantime - pretty sure the sephias Ci4+ is up for the challenge! haha

yeh, pretty sure that's good enough for anything lurking out there, i mean, whats the worse that can happen rite? icon_question.gif

else, i need to prepare a medium-light setup.. heh

Get a major craft Volkey bfs series to pair with your CQ51. Big difference when compared to sand.

target fish and area, bro ?
fresh/salt?
round reel http://www.abugarcia.com/products/reels/round-reels
OR
low profile? http://www.abugarcia.com/products/reels/lo...-baitcast-reels
so many reels around that price range
the shimano caenan which is around 260-320 is a low profile BC and is rated for the salt
the shimano curado which is around 360-400 is another
i prefer the feel of ABUs heheheh personal preference

BCs for first timers or beginners require practise
practise thumbing/feathering
then practise casting
then practise accuracy laugh.gif

I find USDM Shimano messing up the market.

2014 Curado is now lower than Chronarch CI4??
Features are too close and similar between the Curado & Chronarch CI4 & Metanium 2013

Curado E used to be the best value for money with Brass gears that are strong and lasting. Curado G made it all cheap now.

Chronarch succeeded as "the new" curado with same specs only without the brass gears.

Core was the MG version of CU51E/CH51E.
Funny how they are still selling all the old ones and adding the new models with just new SVS infinity brakes and micro gears as the main new features. Both are great innovative upgrades... but as a buyer.. i get more confuse on where I should spend my money... Reel A B C D all similar,.. just CI4 or Alu body with some minor diffs like bearings and gear ratios or spool size....

HMMMMmmmm... what do you think ?

the old chronarch and curado were in their own respective leagues
shimano went daiwa's path with too many watered down variations

the curado became the chronarch
and curado became cheaper
i think the caenan shares the same bod with a few other models
we're made to pay more for 'better' materials
gimme the old stuff anyday

Reel A B C D all similar,.. just CI4 or Alu body with some minor diffs like bearings and gear ratios or spool size....

HMMMMmmmm... what do you think ?
*
Agreed, too many models out there. And too many variation of the same model. Metanium MG, Metanium MGDC7, Metanium XT... The list goes on.

And there is not enough easy info available to compare the reels.

If you use small gun win big fight even better the feel and the story you can tell others. Using big gun for big fight not much glory in the win. That's my opinion and the way I fish I guess.

If you doing pleasure fishing just for fun and relaxing
I don't mind. .. but this is a competition

If you fail to control the fish or the fish is too much for your
Gear . How you expect the person next to you to react ?

He may not give a damn on it

So what I would say is bring appropriate gear
Specially when you in a competition, there no overkill on that

Only loser and winner . Glory or shame......

I would still use my normal gear which is very light in a place like Exotic. Its the fun of fishing for me. By your logic are you suggesting people use 100pound line and maximum drag when fishing in competition tongue.gif

Well I would say use what you like, different people have different likes when it comes to fishing. Most importantly one must have fun! smile.gif Ya in pay ponds must make sure you do not disturb the guys on both sides when fishing. I really hate the guys who can't cast straight and must cross your line when they fish mad.gif

Lesson learn. Using Pe3 for toman. Bait is pig heart. Can't even shake the monster. End up telling story the biggest one always escape.

The target fish would be ang koli aka parrot fish and some light jigging too.

PE 3-5 for parrot fish since they tend to be around the reefs so you need to yank them out laugh.gif

Top water PE1-3 for some good action. The new biomaster SW4000XG looks pretty sweet biggrin.gif

Anybody here owns a Shimano Exsense DC? 2012 and 2013 models are the same except for the drive sides right?

New model as in the 13 one. smile.gif

Chronarch ci4+ was in my list too until the price went up to 800-900 after the new japan made ones came.

Im looking at the Exsence DC particularly for the DC whine and also the drag clicker. drool.gif

dunno, I don't own an Exsence DC, I know a friend who has one but sold it off soon after- i think its a good reel, not sure why he sold it.

I have the Chronarch ci4+ but not too sure if its worth the price really, its light, yes, but eventually I find I don't really enjoy the 'plasticky' feeling when holding it, i'm looking forward to sell it real soon in the hope of making enough coin for the 2014 conquest. blush.gif

Read a few reviews from GNP in facebook. A guy went jigging with it and actually pull up a 7kg tenggiri with no problem at all. Another guy used it in Tiger5, no problem reeling up the longtans.

Nice reel IMO smile.gif

repair damaged internals? or just normal servicing?
Sam's place does servicing (red Hot tackle)
Kenny also does servicing (Extreme anglers)

If its damaged internals,... hmmm not too sure if you can still get parts for that old reeel.

Use a 2-6lbs rod with 4lbs line and you can have equally as much fun with only rm50 for 3 hours in jugra. smile.gif

hey guys, i got back today trying out some daiwa baitcasters and I'm just wondering.

I played around with the 'legendary' daiwa type r and its smooth and all but upon retrieving everything was OK except for the handle which seems to wobble abit while making a clinkity-clankety sound - weird

went over and tried the J-dream and this piece of metal just sings seamlessly, smooth on the retrieve, and no dramas.

The guy here says the handle play is a common design flaw in most daiwa bc reels, seriously? Any zillion type-r owners here? pretty disappointed with wot i found in the type-r, even the abu garcia elite ib was alot smoother and no handle-play at all.

What do you guys think?

Got good result there? Thinking wanna go there test with 6-10lbs gear  flex.gif

yup j & j

they regular add in rohu so it quite nice to fish,

for seksyen 24 i suggest you get heavier gear go , if you use too light yes you can fight the fish for long time and is very fun

but not to mention your line will tangle with other angles, for regular angle they might even ignore you and play tug of war with you........

Bro if you wanna do casting can but only permit during early morning (6am+) later if people start coming you line might tangle to their. So casting is not so recommended.

When are you planing to go to 24 ?
I m heading there this sunday, you wanna join ?

To be honest ajiking reels are not good. For that budget you can go for Shimano elf or aernos. Much safer bet.

QUOTE(Einjahr @ Apr 16 2014, 11:09 PM)
hey guys, i got back today trying out some daiwa baitcasters and I'm just wondering.

*
Zillion TYpe R - USDM
Only features more BB and carbon handle compare to the normal zillion. Lighter weight andyesmm the cranking feels weird, notsolid feeling when handle being spun.

J-Dream - JDM
Solid feel, smooth! worth every penny spent. Unique ultralight weight duralumin spool only made for this model.

Zillion is a very multi capable work horse reel.
J-Dream . PE Special . HLC are among those worth keeping in your collection.

Limited Editions like the 50th Anniversary or the TD Zillion 7,3 100 also worth keeping.
Only some minor differences bwtn all the Zillions above,.. some comes with CRBB and some dont. Handles are different but mostly the spool set them apart.

Thats not bad. thumbup.gif 20lbs gear should be good enough unless 15kg mekong grabs the bait. laugh.gif I dont want to winch the fish up with 40-50lbs gear like i see in some of the pictures shocking.gif

lool, how i wished i posted this before biting the bullet, the type r is USDM! - so much for attempting to get a daiwa collection.
Not impressed with the Zillion Type-R- for all its hype but some people don't seem to mind it as I still see them selling quite well,I'm going to return the one i bought 5 months ago to the daiwa shop then and replace it with a Jdream or a PE special.

The J-Dream is really a flawless reel, compact and solid but totally limited in the market, there's only very few left at retail shops ard here. sad.gif

thanks for the review

if you want penn i would suggest at least get penn battle
dont go for anything lower then that

for shimano i do say it more smooth then daiwa in mid /low price reel section
the finishing also is quite good

for daiwa it gave me a feel more durable feeling
not bad also

ryobi ap power also quite nice

daiwa or penn is good as well. It's more of a brand preference for some. Bottom fishing size 3000 reel would do, general purpose reel size.

hey guys, im just wondering- if an HG/XG typically means a faster gear ratio than PG and the other normal stuff, but would high end shimano spinning reels still be able to throw crank-baits, trolling etc?

lastly, which stella would you pick for flicking lures in and around freshwater lakes, inshore and light saltwater applications ? the PG? the normal ratio range? HG or XG? tks

I've already owned a fair number of low gear -mid ratio reels from 5:0:0 up to 5:7:1, so i think will go for the c3000 xg... this should be ok throwing for diving minnows, soft plastics, etc? If shouldnt be strictly topwater yeah?

Umm guys im in a dilemma again lol... should i get d c3000xg or the 4000xg? C3000xg makes a nice all medium light purpose reel, the 4000 is more for medium.heavy stuff rite?
